Lost1
Out of curiosity... Well, if you can call running a small ISP IT, then yes, been doing it for something like 15 yrs, even longer if you count in-house. Everything from customer tech support, doing own repairs, to NOC... luckily I never had to be an email server admin. Learned by doing for the most part, or looking into what I'd like to do, if ever allowed the equipment and time. Think the boss is finally starting to learn how much I really do. Customer Support takes up almost all of my time, so He's been mad at me alot for the last 4 years, and actually had hired me some help for part of that. Got alot done during that time, so I'm only about 5 years behind where I need to be now. So, if that's IT, then I guess I am.
brentx
I'm a network admin at my university in a research department... I don't deal with people too much, just make sure all the hardware is running correctly. I also have a part time job as a research assistant in the Comp sci department, doing some machine learning stuff for wind farms.

So you might say i been around the block a couple times. Yeah foxer, but they got you used to getting up at 3-4am every morning. I dunno how you deal with that. Then again I am usually just losing consiousness around those times. AAS of Comp Sci with a programming concentration, and almost got a baccelaurate (sp?) in Multimedia Game Design, have just my internship to go, then it's off to try to find a job in it! (and of course, pay the college bills *gulp*)

Rumrunner
I have been, mainly, a programmer for 17 years, and during that time I also have some system/DB admin along with PC Repair/installation, networking, and technical sales experience. I started out on Mainframes worked my way down to UNIX, then to PC programming and admin work. Currently I work for a company that does Mainframe to PC Server conversions. Mainly convert the database and all the applications to a PC server environment with either my companies proprietary programming language or with MS Visual Studio languages. All a big change from my years in the Army when I was a just a simple heavy anti-armor weapons specialist! I was infantry for those who are not in the know! Moved on from server admin/network security stuff, now I secure doors/CCTV/physical asset tracking (infants are physical assets.. lol) BTW.. if you've ever been worried about "Big Brother" all I have to say is, I've seen his tech and never forget there's a Federal Worker sitting behind the keyboard. Orga1
I'm not, unfortunately their seems to be a cotton picking game when it comes qualified and none qualified applicants. That or my community is not so tech savy. I have had repair/installation experience, diagnosis and data entry. I'm more of a self learner then being able to join the IT club. I congratulate everyone else who has made it in the IT business though.
tredway
Yup IT geek here I guess. MCSE 2003, MCITP, VMWare, Oracle. And work well its one of those... Well they only like going by 3 letters most of the time...
Really
Hi, Like about 65% of us here, I also work in IT. Unlike most of you, I'm the guy you don't like.....I'm a Project Manager! (yeah, I can hear you all boo-ing and hiss-ing at me! lol) I am though working on the worlds largest IT project (the full IT upgrade of the entire British health service.) With 60 million customers, 1.8 million users and more treatments/services than most of us care to think of, managing this lot is no mean feat. However, in the context of EnB, I don't think my skills are going to be needed as much as Devs, DBAs and code-monkeys. Still, I'm here if ppl need R
