1. Just thought I'd check in and comment that after further investigation I've concluded that the notice was, indeed, most likely fraudulent--not that my host cares since it was "submitted in the proper format" (even though it wasn't, actually); in order to reinstate the content my host requires a counter-notice filed in paper by mail... *sighs* The DMCA is piss-ignorant, and the attempts at SOPA, ACTA, and related garbage are getting on my nerves.
2. Oh? Hm, looks like I gotta fix the permissions again LOL Anyway here it is: Hello, We have received a Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA") complaint involving domains under your control. Please note that Hostgator has only passed on the sufficiency of the Claimant's notice, per 17 U.S.C. Sec. 512, and has not sought to determine whether the Infringing Materials on the Web Site do indeed infringe upon the Claimant's intellectual property rights. Within a forty-eight (48) hour period, we will need you to remove, or disable access to, the material that is claimed to be infringing or we will have to disable this material to be in compliance with federal DMCA laws. A copy of the original DMCA notice is listed below our contact information. Under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, your rights as a Respondent to this complaint include, but are not limited to, a possible counter-notification to us, per 17 U.S.C. 3. There is an old-as-hell game called Starsiege that was created in 1999 by Dynamix, who was bought by Sierra, who was bought by Vivendi, who was bought by EA. Vivendi closed the master servers a number of years ago and it was taken up by a various members of the community. The game is long since gone from stores, with only a couple of used copies to be found on Amazon occasionally. The remaining player base is somewhere around 20. Despite this, just today I received via my web host a DMCA take-down threat from EA Games for hosting the game client on my site (patched and repaired for modern systems by unpaid volunteer), which of course I complied with. (A copy of this notice is found in the comments at http://ss.tarazedi.com ). It's not even clear how EA Games holds any claim over this game since the IP was supposedly sold to a third party (who then sold it down the line to several more parties) years ago. Whatever. My give a [censored] is busted, and [censored] EA in the [censored] too. I'm just posting this to suggest you keep your ears open and just watch yourselves because if they went after this game that's at least twenty times as irrelevant and pointless to any possible business interests of theirs as even E&B is, and probably gets one download every month... you get the idea. *sighs* I really, really loathe that company.
4. http://w.tarazedi.com/Elementals+Gaming Elementals Gaming (Elementals or :e: for short) was founded in Starsiege in 2001. Now, we are online gamers seeking to enhance the gaming experience of ourselves and those around us: by building communities, creating new and interesting maps and other in-game assets, and simply being fun to be around. Short on formality and demands, long on friendship and lasting strength, Elementals seeks more mature, intelligent, and like-minded gamers. 5. WTF. That was the first thing I thought of, but the fact the button should have been ABOVE the version number led me to believe it could not be the case. LOL
6.
the rest i didn't read because i regarded as waste of time, and waste of time is rubbish to me. moving on...
My head now hurts from the block of irony ore that just fell on it.
7.
Some scientific explanations are so well established that no new evidence is likely to alter them. The explanation becomes a scientific theory. In everyday language a theory means a hunch or speculation. Not so in science. In science, the word theory refers to a comprehensive explanation of an important feature of nature supported by facts gathered over time. Theories also allow scientists to make predictions about as yet unobserved phenomena.
Your "theory" certainly doesn't fit that description. It isn't even an hypothesis, which is a proposal meant to be tested and verified/falsified. It's not exactly speculation, because speculation requires that one be attempting to find the actual truth of the matter rather than just making a claim and saying "it's worth discussing because I said it was". "Rubbish" is a good word and I'll stick with that. If that makes me a fundamentalist, fine. I'm also a fundamentalist regarding the fact that evolution isn't a lie invented by Satan, that various physical laws are in fact laws and not bendable by magicky-woo and wishful thinking, and that the sun is actually a star and not Apollo and his chariot or whichever god a particular cult chose to talk about this week. The lack of logic and science in education in this country that allows anyone to believe any rubbish "theory" that any crackpot comes out with is amazing and appalling--such as the above, or the idea that we didn't actually go to the moon (one I've been trying to get this teenager to get over even though it's hopeless). I could find a rock in some ruins somewhere painted blue and say the culture was influenced by the Pleaideans (since Alcyone and Maia and etc. are blue stars) and probably make enough of a case to convince at least a few gullibles. That doesn't make the "theory" valid or worthy of anything but scorn, nor would I expect anyone to be obligated to do an in-depth inquiry before labelling it as rubbish. Awareness of pareidolia is one of the key ingredients to any meaningful inquiry into this subject or many others.
8. Oh, certainly, and in fact I use "ancient astronauts" (in a manner of speaking) in my own fiction. It's a fun subject. But it's fiction, not trying to pass it all off as a valid archeological theory. The guy mentioned earlier has made his fortune off this stuff and has not only tried to do exactly that, but has sold enough books that the media also sometimes try to pass it off as legitimate so they can also cash in. As for the Antikythera, what's there to account for? It's an astronomical clock. A Greek genius or geniuses (such as this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hero_of_Alexandria ) made it. No aliens are required, any more than aliens were required for Kepler to derive the laws of planetary motion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antikythera_mechanism
9. Pareidolia. Rubbish like this should not be encouraged. Science and history are interesting enough; there's no need for making crap up knowing the public is too stupid to analyze it and realize it's crap. The History Channel should be ashamed. Also anyone making money off the 2012 doomsday trash should be charged with fraud plus whatever else one is charged with when yelling "fire" in a closed room. Religious leaders included.
10. *rolls eyes* Smart people know to ignore trolls too. But I'm too tired for my brains to really be working 100%. Anyway, I apologize for this little bit of spillover. As Azasha said, this isn't Net-7's problem and (this is rare for me) I'm not gonna get into crap like that on someone else's forums. If anyone cares, the discussion is here: http://www.enbclassic.com/community/index.php?/topic/171-i-am-leaving-this-project-as-well/ and I think my post on there is as good a summary as any. Kudos to Net-7 for being understanding about this and not locking it up, but this thread is really just troll farts and none of us want to stink up the place. Namaste and goodnight,
11. Aye, but that contest would be about as unfair and about as unpleasant to watch as a human female wrestling a female gorilla.
12. Um... isn't the whole game "part of the storyline"? o.O
