  1. Second that, but not just for VG.  Yesterday I grind in Nif, and after 4+ hour of grinding the loot did not even cover my ammo expense!!!!
  2.   Second that.  I multibox, not to exploit, but to be able to play all 9 professions.  People just group multiboxers with cheaters, and I have strong objection to that.  The penalty for the way I play is that my toons level slowly.  There is a gal/guy JE in my Guild that I have built a lv3 Solar Sail for from my TE lv75 at the time; for a JE to need lv3 engine, she was probably lv30-40 at the time, but now is already at lv150, compared to my TE who built that SS for her (currently at lv110, and I play some 6-8 hours daily).   But I digress.  Kudoes to the devs for restoring the auto-gate feature for me, but I agree, that does not seem to deter the cheaters.  I would think the devs should impose a timeout period for deleting a character same as moving an avatar from account to account.  (With that said, I made a mistake of moving a char to the wrong account, and now will be stuck with it for the next 6 months :-)  ).
  3. Here is my guess on why we have problem gating:   - In Live, Westwood use a TCP connection between client and server, so the TCP protocol takes care of packet loss (due to collision, NW bandwidth, intermediate routers fragmentation etc..) - In the EMU, Kyp has said that he had to switch to using UDP instead because doing otherwise, the server would hang.   So, in the day time, and especially nightly between 9PM-10PM Pacific time, the network bandwidth is limited due to all those backups that kick off at that time.  As a result, intermediate routers would drop or defragment the packets.    I believe we can do the followings: - Since we cannot change the client, we can however, change the net7proxy that sits between the client and the server.  We of course can change the server, since it is all EMU codes.  THe net7proxy codes would use UDP, but maintain a TCP connection to the client.  It would forward the client request to the server, but also implement a retry mechanism (Sequence number of packets, and provide more retry counts and longer retry timeout for any request until an ACK is received from the server).  Likewise, the server connection codes need to be changed accordingly to take into account the loss of packets.
  4.   The one with the highest jumpstart skill level with a whining wife (Why did you not check the car before leaving) would sometimes hook the cables backward too!!!!  :-)      So it is never a guaranteed success!!!!!
  5. I was Starbase from Galileo :-)  But 10 years (and a lot of nagging) have wiped out my memory, until I read the farewell from Weebear mentioning my nick. My guildmate from Live, Rumrunner is on here as well.  We miss Sarkyn and Genevieve from my old guild.   Welcome back!
  6. One thing we can do is to increase the retry count in both the proxy on the client side and the server side.  It appears now, that the server sends the master handoff only once with no retries (or too short/too few a retry).    (Note that the Blue Galactic Map hang during gating also happens outside of the 9PM-10PM PST window too, but less frequently.)   @Zackman: IMHO the ping test is not a good test.  During the 9-10P PST window, if I gate 4 toons at the same time on 2 comps, 3 would go through, one would get the blue screen.  So it is not the ping latency that causes that, more like routers fragment the data packets, and some of them got dropped.  A more accurate ping test would be using the -f -l flag during that window to see how often the fragmentation is, compared to regular time outside that window).   My 2 cents
  7. I don't see why you guys make such a big deal.  Yes I multibox, cuz I want to play all professions (in Live, I never got to play a JD or TT), and I am a solo player most of the time, unless my kid is done with his homework :-) .  I don't like the change, but it is just an inconvenience, no big deal for me.  I just have to add 2 more clicks at the gate (1 for gating and 1 for regroup).    I don't like the change, because the exploit is really not a game breaker IMHO, but it is a really an inconvenience for me.  With that said, I can live with it.
  8. I think this is a recent change.  I notice the same thing too, as my healer died several times last night.  A healer now enters the "Aggro matrix" when he heals anyone in his group that attacks the mob.  The question is:  Is it an intended behavior?
  9. Since the fix Kyp put in, and especially Build 371, gating has improved a lot.  THere are still occasional hangs in the Blue Galactic Map Screen (BGMS), but those happen rarely outside of the 9PM-10PM PST window, when the ISP does its nightly backup/maintenance (I guess).  I think we could improve that with a longer timeout or more retries from the server, because the client is obviously waiting for a packet from the server which never comes.   Last night, I did a single simple trade run from Pluto to Earth, and it took 4 BGMS's to reach Earth stations (2 dock./undocks and 4 gates).  All happened starting at 9PM PST, and ended around 10PM PST.  I was fighting in Rag, so when the blackout time was about to start (8:30-45PM PST), I thought, let's find something less dangerous to do instead of risking XP debt !!!!!  :-)   [EDIT] It is definitely not a DNS problem, since the Net-7 portal web pages load fine.
  10. I use sandboxie and it works fine.  IMHO, we don't need to add more complexity to netproxy.  Let the sandbox programs do their jobs.  THe added benefits of using sandboxie is that each of the box will remember your toolbar/skillbar.
  11. I think the client codes and license to them are actually more valuable than the server codes for EMU to go public/kickstarter.  That would allow the devs to bring modern graphics to the game, and a mass appeal for new players.   The server codes?  I don't think we need it.
  12. Actually, you have to get the HU from Kerr first before she will talk to you :-)
  13. Login server is down.  Gates crash everywhere
  14. It's under the portal (www.net-7.org) under Account > Avatar Settings
  15. I did this very mission yesterday around 4PM California time (i.e. after 1/15/13 patch).  Works fine.  You just have to look harder for them (i.e. go deeper into the mine field).  Just remember to free warp as soon as you have enraged them, then come back to kill it to advance (unless you are high levels or have a large group :-) )
  16. So I read that you need to do mission for the lady across the hall before you can trade with McClure.  So when I talk to her, I could not trigger a talk tree.  Does anyone know the requirements to start her mission, and then the trade with McClure?  I have green RD faction and OL100+.
  17. I would vote for making Hulk field spawn at a random field, not at a fixed location as currently.
  18. Buy the Windows 8 upgrade, which MS is desperate to sell to you currently.or alternately, buy the Win7 Home Upgrade online for about USD$70 I think. (Online download, and you have to burn the CD, not from the shop.  It is legit.  Shop version cost you North of USD$100).
  19. Actually, you have to go to Mars and talk to the guy in the main lobby there to get the HU30 first (Name is Kerr I think, at work atm).  After you get the HU30 at the SY, you can then talk to the lady in Povernir Mons for the OHU mission.   What confusing is that the steps are backward compared to the Terran HU30, and your mission log mentions that you need to talk to the OHU giver before HU50, which makes you (and I) think we should start the OHU30 first.  For Terran, you have to do the Optional mission first before you can get the HU.  For Progens, it is the other way around, for you need the HU first before you can do the tough optional mission.  Of course, "tough" is relative, so at HU30, you are expected to be CL10, and you have to kill a CL16.  The Terrans have to kill a CL15 too (Roland's helmsman).
  20. There are several reasons a player choose to multibox instead of playing in a group.  Honey-does is one reason for me :-)  I normally have to warp to a safe place if a honey-do comes, something I can't do if working in a context of a group.  Failing to tend to the request is not an option :-)   10 years ago when I was single, going in a raid with my guild was never a problem.  :-)
  21. Yes, DId the mission and gain 300 rep.  Thanks a lot!!!!
  22.   Oh thanks!  I'll check her out right after I get off work!!!
  23.   What if we use it for commercials to support expansion of the server (How are we going to break the 600 limit).  I know the EMU project need to be non-profit to survive, but this will help the finance side.
