snowy Posted January 2, 2017 Report Posted January 2, 2017 I for one hope that PVP in E&B never comes to pass. It was never part of the original game concept. If it does get implemented in any form it should be the arena method as was added to "live". There should be NO rewards of raid drop loot or rare loot and certainly not of loot that is otherwise unobtainable. The advocates of PVP only want in so that they can beat on each other, what more reward is required? Certainly nothing that put PVPers at an advantage over those who wish to play the game in the manner that it was originally conceived.. Basically give a little new sector to those who want to bash on each other and let them bet on it with some sort of escrow arrangement. If the want to bet credits, fine. If they want to agree on a bet of "my item vs your item" then that could work too, as long as the items bet are tradable in game anyway (to avoid obvious exploit..) and each players item they wish to bet goes into a neutral vault that is only accessible by the "victor". This method would allow all those who wish to partake in these willy waiving contests the opportunity for combat, reward and risk just like they have asked for without detriment to those who do not wish to take part. My personal view is that I would rather see the devs considerable talent put to good use by expanding the game in it's original format, but everyone has different priorities I guess. 2 1 Quote
Reon Posted March 18, 2017 Report Posted March 18, 2017 I know the dev staff is stretched thin (and I just noticed we may be losing another dev), however, that being said I do think that PVP may be the answer to drum up support and increase numbers in this game. I myself rarely play due to a work schedule and some very serious real life issues that have commandeered all my time, but when I do play, one of the biggest things missing in this game is the lack of open ended content. Look at it this way, the old MMO's (all older community based games for that matter) that have stood the test of time have done so because of constant updates or PVP. Constant content updates are difficult for this game due to potential copyright issues and a lack of developer staff to implement the new content. I have always been an advocate for limited PVP in this game...sector only PVP. Not like the arenas; an actual sector where people can go mine, hunt, and do everything they normally would do...just in an area where they could experience PVP combat like they did in the arenas. I personally think this is something that would give end gamers much needed new content, as well as an increase in new players to ENB. Limit the PVP to a sector, and have the "tow point" to a small starbase just outside of that sector gate. When you gate to the sector, have multiple gate turrets that would open fire an anyone who tried to grief someone at the gate (or perhaps code a random spawn point in the sector once you gate to prevent gate campers). I don't think the coding involved would be huge (I could be wrong) and it would offer another outlet for dynamic (and constantly changing) content. I do agree that a PVP server will only split up the community, and I don't want to see the whole game go PVP. Just one sector...with enough rewards to encourage folks to play in there, but not enough to force players who hate PVP to have go there. 1 Quote

To cover my eventual death(s), say anywhere from non-refundable 500,000 to 2 million credits (Player level dependent), with a per incapacitate/Death cost of $100,000 to $500,000 . Quote

Each player had an energy cannon that only became active when close to a beacon and when a game was in progress. One team had the cannons and tried to stop another team from mining. The mining team would have escorts that tried to take out the guys with energy cannons using their own energy cannons. It was kindof fun for a bit but someone discovered an exploit and in an attempt to patch this the code got broken and then it was pulled out. It should still be there in the repo just needs a bit of digging. Quote

I am currently playing Star Trek Fleet Command (STFC) Yes it is PvP, yes it is free to play, it has in game purchases. I am playing on server/Galaxy 79-Reliant. STFC has taught me somethings about PvP. Star Trek Fleet Command has got nothing on this Emulator. Earth and Beyond Emu is a much better game. IMHO it lacks one thing, Elective PvP that IS NOT server wide. I will always believe that E&B would be an ideal PvP game in the way that I have designed it And from YOUR input.
