Progen Privateer Start

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to play a Progen Privateer (since they weren't in the game initially) and am having some trouble with one of the starting missions. I'm supposed to find this freighter, the instructions tell me to go scan the mars gate (but not to go through it) which I do. I'm told the freighter left to the east and to investigate some odd energy spikes. I have no idea how to do this, there is a giant astroid with a waypoint/warp I can do to it to the "east" on the map, but when I go there, I find nothing. I forfeited the mission and am going to try and restart it, in case it's a bug with spawning something, but in case it's not, can anyone tell me how this one is supposed to work?

If it's not doable, no biggie, I can just go with one of the normal classes that were in the game originally, and presumably that should work better.

You have to freewarp to find the gravity generator. There's a path of navs from the base to the Mars gate, you need to freewarp to the right of it. You should end up in a gravity well shortly. target the gravity generator and your mission should update. Assuming you've not already done that part of the mission. Eventually you'll need to find the freighter itself. There's a moon in the middle of the PT training sector if I recall correctly, (hadn't done the PT training missions since ST4 started more than 2 years ago) Freewarp north of that moon. Eventually you'll get the nav (you may have to stop to recharge your reactor). Be careful there are RD ships around the nav and they will be more than willing to shoot you. IIRC they are in the CL6- CL8 range.

The starting missions for the Progen Privateer are also documented on my site http://61cygni.site88.net, but no spoilers listed so you still have to explore for them, but hints are given where needed. Edited by Bloody Riz

This is a great mission but it would be even better if the player got some updates to know they were in the right basic area. IE: if they go too far away from where the stuff is maybe have the gate guy pop up alerting the player that the stuff is farther to the North, East, West, etc. Kind of like the RD NPC that pops up wanting the player to pay him credits or he will attack you. Don;t get me wrong I eventually loved the mission......its a great mission....but with so much free space and a gravity well it can become very problematic and result in players cancelling the mission, thinking the mission is broken/bugged, or searching the forums looking for a walk-through. For a starting mission I found this a bit disconcerting and actually stopped playing my PP until I calmed down.....after a week.

I still think there is something wrong with the newbie missions. I did as suggested when entering Arx Bursa and talked to Imperator Brook. Got the Lost Freighter mission and completed it. But that is about it. Chronos Christoffer will not give me the waste disposal mission and Mathis Alexander will not give me a mission either.

Just a little too convoluted and hence frustrating. Having to use thrusters to search around is frustrating enough, but the fact that you can't see the gravity well generator until several minutes of flying straight is a bit much. Either give more hints in the mission description, give hints as you enter the gravity well and/or at least make the gravity well generator's marker visible from the edge of the gravity well. Maybe even make it closer so you don't have to spend several minutes flying straight to get to it. Feels unnecessarily tedius especially for an early class mission. Giving more mission info in every step is generally something that I could suggest for all the PP missions I've done so far...

Hey Guys

As the original creator of these missions im sorry to hear that my missions are leading to frustration.

I like it if missions are not to simple, but they should surely not be frustrating.

Back then when i wrote the story around Arx Bursa, i didnt have the tools and code to create the mission exactly the way i intended it to be, so i had to use placeholders.

Originally my goal was to create a mission where new players would search for the missing freighter and find it destroyed in an asteroid field near the gate.

With RD Drones around it carrying away loot from the freighter to an nearby RD freighter.

The idea was that the player has to freeflight just a bit to find the grav well and then upon further investigation the player would find the freighter, follow the looting non agro drones to discover the waiting RD freighter and then around lv 8 destroy the RD Freighter it and it's escort.

Unfortunately back then we couldnt script stuff like this. But i still hope that one day someone will finish these missions the way i intended them to be.

Regards

Herak

A map marker in radar detection range of players near the the gate, that is located near the anomaly (labled "sensor anomaly" or something) would be of great help for new players to get their bearings. The difficulty of the first 10 levels of PP versus the other classes is immense, mostly because there is more stuff for people to figure out for themselves, without any in-lore hints (next issue would be the "suicidal critters" mission that also lacks this hint and has that 20 minute time limit that will even more frustrate and stress players that they'll just give up after 5 minutes of warping to nearby navs and then ask in chat).

Edit: Woops, sorry for necroing.

I started this the other day for the 2nd time, I gave up the first time I got so mad and no one back then in chat would reply to my question about that quest. The quest needs to be fixed all around. To be honest once you get to the gate and scan it the quest info isn't really clear for a new player. It sounds like you are to find the ship and what is causing the energy spike, when you only need to find the energy spike. The marker for the well doesn't show up until you are really close to it and that makes it harder to find and once you go back to the station and you get sent back the cords it gives you isn't a lot of help. It should show up on the map when you find it the first time time. After getting that done I can't get another quest from anyone 😕 but i know now I need to raise my OL , the NPC should tell you this like all other starter areas NPC do
