1. Good idea there. I have seen for myself some of these incapped toons at boss spawns like *cough*...Warder...*cough* for instance.
2. The JE's engine signature had a distinct "X" shape back in Live:
3. Good luck to you Stanig.
4. The day EA announced they were cancelling E&B was the day I was through with them as a customer.   As for me saying that WoW has had a negative impact on the MMO genre, I am referring to how WoW is now the standard "litmus test" when it comes to comparing other MMOs. It seems a lot of people have forgotten all WoW's predecessors such as AC (Asheron's Call), UO (Ultima Online), DAOC (Dark Age of Camelot), EQ (Everquest/Evercrack), and MMOs like SWG and of course E&B - all of the above listed were arguably great during their respective time periods in the history of MMOs. Each of these games had their own loyal, rabid fanbase. The kicker is a lot of these games were up and running during the same time frame and yet, while there was some competition amongst one another, you didn't see a whole lot of "if this game isn't like [insert name], then it will fail" or "OMG this game is a [insert name] clone; therefore, it is /fail". Now it seems that today's MMOs don't stand a chance when compared and contrasted against the almighty WoW - and I'll reiterate, it's only WoW that they are being compared to.   Sure, WoW has some good things going for it, but the MMO genre didn't start with WoW and it sure as hell shouldn't end with it. This is mostly what I am getting at. Personally, I think upcoming game developers should feel free to take a page/cues from some of the older games I listed instead of relying on a WoW template for a model of success which is as you alluded to - doomed to failure. Well, that's my issue with WoW and the MMO genre.
5. What made WoW such a success was how they "dumbed" down MMO gameplay mechanics in order for those with virtually no MMO experience to hit the ground running the moment they got ingame. Financially speaking, this was brilliant on the part of Blizzard; however, I don't really care for all the "hand-holding" that came along with it. For all it's success, I personally feel that WoW has had a negative impact on the MMO genre. Just my two cents.
6. I was under the impression that the cap was reset to 600 people. Perhaps, I was mistaken then.
7. Still an hour and 12 min til the 21st out here on the west coast. :D
8.
is noone using mirc or did I miss something and connected to the wrong server...
Yeah...you missed the "date" of this thread.
9. Actually, just remove the "?" from the topic sentence Justice, and boom!....We now have a thread for a newer and much more updated discussion(s) concerning the history/storyline of the E&B Universe. "Live" merely functions as a template mostly in regard to the emu, so we can all expect some differences, twists and turns concerning the storyline...new plots...schemes...chars..etc.
10. He is prolly in a coma now.
11.
I could go either way on this one. I do like that they increased the faction reward from 15 for the top level jobs, to 40 for all jobs. A nominal amount of credits would be fine, but I could always do some trade runs or farm beneath my CL to earn credits if the terminal doesn't give them.
Understood. I was thinking about the non-trader classes when I wrote this. In live, I only did "trade" runs on my TT mostly. As far my Jd and Je went, I played the "paperboy" and did the paper route thingy in their early levels and that's about it.
12. I, along with several other players remember the issuance of "credits" upon successful completions of job term missions. Now, it wasn't a whole lot, but again, it was a part of the reward along with xp. Currently, credits are not all that easy to come by....so if this were implemented here in the emu it would be fantastic. This will help players supplement their income while grinding out jobs. Every little bit helps. So if this suggestion is taken into consideration, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
13.
Omg0sh, it's Peg0sh!™
I remember you...you were always saying Omg0sh! whenever you logged in or if something happened on one of the chat channels....lollers!
14. Looks like I spoke to soon LOL. I refreshed the page and now the forum is fubared on this pc too now.
15. Hmm...on the pc that I game on, the forums are displaying as they should (most likely because I didn't update anything on this one or have it set to auto-update). Only on the laptop is the main forum page fubared.
16. The only thing I updated yesterday was Adobe Flashplayer. Think this may have something to do with it? As of right now only the main forum page is fubared (while using FF), when I click on a link/thread..the forum is displayed normally.
17. I think you missed the point in that other thread, which you are obviously upset over. No one was trying to "deny" you your basic right to free speech. I am a firm believer in it myself, however, one must still take responsibility for his/her words. Just because you have the right/freedom to say what you want....doesn't necessarily mean that you should. There is nothing wrong with criticism, providing it is constructive, but do it in a way where no one will be offended. This way, people will be more inclined to hear what you have to say. No offense, but the way you are carrying on about this is really petty.
18. Crazy traffic on the various news sites...too dang bad the election(s) is bringing out the worst in people. Ahh...who am I to complain though...as I'm currently arguing with 10+ peeps on Politico.
19.
In Live you could CC a mob, that was close to ore you wanted to mine, mine the ore, then warp away and/or cloak and move away. When fighting two mobs you could CC one, kill the other, then deal with the CC'd mob. I really see zero reason to alter the skill from how it was in Live. Movement or damage breaks it, but turning does not. Its pretty simple. Due to the resistance check the skill was not really that great for raids (CL 60+ mobs) unless you first debuffed a mob with a Psi debuff device. If this was done you could pretty safely CC high level mobs as long as you stayed withing recharge range of your TT and didn't run out of energy. I even CC'd Scooter a couple times.....though he generally killed me if I failed.
Personally, the only time I would only consider using this skill would be during a raid situation. Just going by the skill description where movement or damage breaks the skill..says that it's not very effective for solo combat. Unless, you were somehow able to kill the 2nd mob (1st one CC'd from what you said) without moving or taking any type of damage whatsoever. I can see this happening here in the Emu maybe, but not during live. The only occasions where my Jens never took damage in live was if I was kiting with a coma....depending on what the mob's scan range was. As for mining/combat...here and during live...a coma, along with a low sig will do and did the trick nicely. It is also possible to cloak immediately after starting to tractor in an ore if the cloak is timed right. Looking at it logically, the only purpose of this skill (as it was during live) that I can see is that of a raid or group setting. Running solo, I don't see why any JE would bother using that skill. I just think that some more "thought" should had gone into the skill before they implemented it. Just my opinion.
20.
Yeah, that would be a good compromise. Say anything beyond 5 Km breaks it?
Yeah that sounds about right. Maybe even an item somewhere down the line (hypothetical) that enhances this skill a bit in terms of distance/duration. Much like how the Lepus device enhances the Fold Space skill. At any rate, a slightly better chance for the JE to get away from a boss like GoBB for example who has the "see cloak" skill and Jenquai-like scan range. Hopefully, this skill does find a place in combat and raids and whatnot this time around....I didn't bother getting this skill during live as it received way too many negative reviews by JEs.
21. I have to agree in that it doesn't seem like a useful skill while playing solo. Meh...maybe allow movement while actively using the skill, but make it so the JE has to stay within a certain distance in order for the skill to remain in effect.
22.
Stanig Jr likes uncle Darkk better! =p
Lmao!
23.
IMO, this is due to several factors. There are few 'n00bs', so their Q's arent flooding the chat like it did in live. The number of people who build their own equipt, or have it built in guild are far more numerous here than in live, so their req's arent flooding the chat. There is more of a community feeling now than in live, easy to have a good chat and after all, the chat is generaly quiet without the above I long for those days when the market chat flowed with offers and counter offers, but banning idle chat wont bring those days back
I must say some of the ensuing arguments that took place in those channels were entertaining and quite hilarious at times.
