STO key!!!!

You will be disapointed.

heh I'm waiting too, I've gotten fed up with launches. Seems like it takes at least six months from launch before these games get polished. SWG of course being the prime example of a horrific launch. EnB launched well, I was there, but there were some content problems as well, though not so bad. But then, sometimes even expansions can cause a lot of problems, like with WWII Online or EVE Online. So we'll see what happens :(

i got a beta key from a beta in enb and wow he was right it is not so good... i can't believe they are going to ship it as live release by february, there is no way it'll be worth buying even by the end of the 2 week "open beta" that isn't really very open. missions work sometimes not others, lots of typos in text blocks that even someone with my gramatical skill notices. about as much crashing as we get in enb only it takes longer to crash out. if they did a first 2-3 months free thing or extended "open beta" to that duration it might be polishable by then, it's not all bad but it may still end up an attempt to polish a turd.

They CANT extend the beta further because the poor studio who had the order to build it, is forced to hold the street date by any meanings by Atari. If i where a dev there i would cry and i was so ashamed to release that.

I read a lot of news about STO the last week, also played the closed and open beta. Every news hosted by private persons or more or less free companies are telling about how bad and unfinished this game is.

But there are also news like on mmorg.com, who got a lot of ads about STO on their page, telling you how amazing it is, they also deleted a few postings from people talking negative about the game, me included.

I also gave away 5 beta keys withing EnB-Emu "New Player" chat and i still have some keys but i dont want others to waste their time and download on it.

But if you really want to see and really mad about getting a key leave me a pm.

This is put out by Cryptic, they can't put out a decent game at all. City of Heroes only did well because it was one of a kind, but 6 issues of nerfs before they put it on the back burner and forced NCSoft to buy it from them so they can actually make money off it it.

Champions Online isn't any different as there was a huge patch that nerfed just about everything. I feel bad for those that blew their money on their lifetime subs. Then they just funneled those funds and devs from there to STO to which they are botching.

I agree that this wont release in what 2 weeks now... but the game is awesome at its current level of development... the space battles rock... imo they nailed the whole star trek thing... and you get your own crew so no need to multi box muhawawaa... for those of you who dont play it... you are the captain and you get an engineering, tatcial and science officer that you level up as well... may not be everyones cup of earl grey tea Hot!... but its shaping up good... and the graphics are amazing ... if your pc can run hard core graphics, they did a real nice job...

I've been playing the STO OpenBeta as well. If you join any MMO at release (or in Beta, which most people forget STO is still in BETA) you have to realize there will be problems. Since I'm in a hurry atm I'll just quick list the good and bad of STO:

Good-

Space PvE AND PvP actually requires some tactical thought, so far I've been able to solo every mission in an Escort (high dps, but near-no defense!)

the skills are plentiful enough that you have choices, and you level up your NPC Officers of your crew as well

ground PvE/PvP has the potential to be nice, but atm it is kind of bland

graphics are nice, I'd say overall somewhere above EVE graphics and below AION graphics

Bad-

its open BETA, still some annoying bugs

missions do get kind of repetative after a while

no true crafting system

most (if not all) skill/item desrciptions are very vague and hard to know what does what without trail and error

Overall its a nice, fun game. Its not something I'd scream and yell as the best game I've ever played, but its solid.

Only real negative things I have to say about the game is that the klingon pve is unfinished and the federation ball of doom tactic is overpowered in pvp and makes it unbalanced. Both sides could use more ground content as well. Other than those it seems to be a decent game, not open world like enb or swg, but I can live with that.

I'm enough of a Star Trek fan that if the botched the continuity of the universe it would piss me off too much to play it. LOL That said, the trailers I've seen describing the political situation are pretty cool, but so uncanon... ugh.

After playing OB for a few days I got a really strange feeling last night..

This is the first ever beta in which I have lost the will to log on.

If your character creator is the best part of your game you've got a serious problem..

Cryptic needs to stop making MMO's.. that's really all I have to say about it.

lol @ all the suckers who have spend their hard earned cash on this failure.

that is probably the best description yet... i too have lost the will to log in and find myself instead watching horrible american television. what they are doing is being forced into a release time that they were no where near ready for, they will bust their butts to make it mildly enjoyable/playable for some people while they finish the game over the next year with those die hard subscribers propping it up i figure, so that while to some extent we all pay for beta testing in MMO's this one is taking it too far imo. i may try to play this game again in a year or 2 when it's got some substance and is actually worthy of judgement, putting it out now is just wrong.

Well, if it is lack luster, they'll probably fix it in time... I mean down the road. My greatest concern is that it is or becomes yet another dumbed down mmog. I really liked CoH, but even that too was a bit too simplistic. I think WoW became the bane to mmog's, because of it's simplicity and every developer now trying to recreate WoW in their own way. But you mostly have people that don't play mmog's but only WoW, and then the few of us that do play mmogs get stuck with shallow games that don't appeal to us nor to the WoW gamers (because it's not WoW). So live long and prosper as you grind your way to 80

*feels sad* and I'm a long time ST fan... though Babylon 5 is a bit better

STO Vs. SW:TOR I guess :P

My biggest issue is the lack of klingon content, which they say they will work on (as of now Klingon is 95% pvp with just a few pve missions) and no joystick support which makes space combat a bit cumbersome. Challenge wise....it's pretty challenging and you can see the people that did play WoW all over the chat as they really can't figure anything out themselves and have to be guided by the hand through some pretty basic missions.

I think I'd like to give STO a play but will be waiting until a few months after release. In the meantime, if an absolutely FREE beta key comes my way I'd use it.

Agreed. Folks ought to keep in mind that there are still darn few games released in a truly finished state. Not that it is an acceptable practice to me but it is what it is nonetheless. If they don't send me a key, I too will wait a very good while before paying for the game.

I am playing STO also, I am impressed so far...but I will say that is NOT perfect lol. But they are still stress testing their servers as of now, the game was almost unplayable a week back...Played yesterday and no lag at all. Soo they are making some progress. Still hasn't kept me from playing the Emu though. And will not be paying month to month for STO...not enough content to keep me interested as of right now.
