  1. I think he's being facetious, there isn't an /away command, at least in the current source unless CDel has finished it.
  2. I'd say put it in a text file under their client/output folder, rather than this, honestly if you're going to save it at all. I don't think its necessary to do so, personally. Also it needs to check the naughty word list to ensure players aren't leaving naughty words in their away messages. ;P (Thanks for the note Rez)
  3. You can create a ticket through the in-game help menu, or through the web at support.net-7.org (they go to the same place)
  4. Can't imagine that being too hard, overall in terms of the server code. Pretty sure the chat and the client are separate, more or less, other than how its fed through TO the client.
  5. hahaha, yeah!
  6. Now that's a statement I can wholeheartedly support.
  7. We could let Byakhee go to town with it? (That might make it worth 2k faction)
  8. What is the long-term goal of the project? To recreate the original, or to go beyond it and modernize (Earth and Beyond and Beyond)? The original goal was a functional game, which we've made it to. The more modernized goal was to try to restore it to launch day (aside from fixes they made for balance which we are either correcting or restoring all the way to the end of the game as appropriate). Many of our developers have expressed an interest in doing more beyond launch, all we can say at this time is "We'll see!" because you never know what will happen by then. In the same vein, how much flexibility is there in updating the client, e.g. graphics, chat, markets, DX10/DX11, etc? Or is the development focused on server-only changes? What are the constraints? As stated by CDel, the client is pretty limited in the things we can accomplish. New assets and art, and some minor changes to the interface are possible, but for the most part not all that much, at least that we know of. I have a team member who spends their time trying to discern the mysteries of the client for just that reason to see if we can do anything to modernize (aside from writing a whole new client!). Chat is really controlled by the server, and not so much the client, so we can do pretty much anything with it. DX10/11 nothing can be done for without a whole new client. Mainly server changes because this controls the game experience for the most part aside from the sound and graphics. There aren't really any constraints other than we obviously can't sell it as a product of course, as EA owns the IP. What stage of the project are we in? What stages are planned? Are there wipes expected at certain transitions? Stress Test IV, after this, Alpha > Beta > Live. Wipes? Hopefully we can avoid them but if technical requirements demand it, then so be it. I imagine if we had to we'd probably increase the experience to allow people time to get one character back up towards the end-game levels though I don't want to speak for the entire team there are occasionally times that we need data about leveling speed and this is invalidated by super experience. Are the dev teams looking for certain things in particular? (Printouts of item stats from Live? Particular skills in coding/art/etc? Testing of particular features?) Hm, As CDel said, C++ and C# .NET are always useful. I occasionally pick up new talent for my content team when someone shows me the willingness to work and understands that its not just a title and powers. Do you want people out there "drumming up business", e.g. posting to MMORPG discussion sites? Or should it be low key at this point? This is really up to the community, but we would prefer to wait for the Alpha release to get too many people flooding in. One of the creative things about the original was the way the game would change from month to month -- vrix invasions as an example? Will the universe be static or dynamic? Dynamic.
  9. I think that'll be fine. Thanks for sharing!
  10. Are you saying they've put this in print somewhere? Is it out there on the net? I should like to see it and determine an answer for that.
  11. To be quick: We've seen it before, usually on vista or 7 (assume it has to do with UAC since that's the only common thread I know of aside from the filestructure), the reset updates does not download redundant data. It changes a version file we have nestled away somewhere so that it has no value which causes the "Version cannot be determined" thing you see during the update, and this causes it to overwrite all the files we've changed since the dawn of time (or at least the dawn of time whereas the emulator is concerned.) If we can figure out what causes it we'll be rid of it soon thereafter, it just doesn't happen often enough as of yet that we've been able to find it.
  12. Should be Level 6 I believe, I need to check my records unfortunately they're not available to me at the moment due to me being at work. Wait, that's probably the TT, the TE should be eligible from the gate so long as they did what the mission suggested.
  13. My theory is that once we have them working, we'll put them in more than just those two places and probably give them a little more variability in the kind of things they do and say to you.
  14. You should see those two ports get reset anytime that the program shuts down, crash or otherwise.
  15. Windows 7 does look like Vista, and it has a similar UAC and file structure, but there the similarities end, imo. Win7 is leaps and bounds better than Vista (like superman style leaps and bounds) and its hands down better than XP for most things too, but then I could very well be a fanboi, they may have converted me after it released, I'm not entirely sure.
  16. This smacks of client corruption, I've never had it happen nor have I heard anyone else say it before. Try removing the client and launcher completely and re-installing then see if you can log in.
  17. Sorry, no idea why their service wouldn't allow you through unless they block ports we use or don't allow UDP traffic on the network for some reason.
  18. Start > Run.. > Type "cmd" and click ok on the prompt" You'll get a lil black window. From there, type in: ping play.net-7.org and it should give results.
  19. Possibly a DNS problem, try pinging play.net-7.org and post a window with the results?
  20. I'm going to be discussing faction now with the rest of the team because I've finally completed several of the things I had pending. I just wanted to provide a quick update, look forward to faction changes. I have copied Fuulishs' short list to my list of things to review, if anything is to be added after this point I would appreciate if you speak with the advocate and/or (if that fails) PM me. I prefer less PMs to create less confusion and allow me to finish things quicker but if you can't get a response about it then let me know directly. Please don't abuse that though, I get quite a lot of PMs on a regular basis and I can't track them all!
  21. Make sure you've registered here and net-7.org using the same information, then click the links to activate in any e-mails sent you. This will ensure your account is activated, they start in the "Temp-ban" status to prevent logins before they are registered correctly.
  22. Much of this is going to be what we're looking into pretty quick-like.
  23. It's taken care of, at least going forward it will be.
  24. You will only see the (x86) variant to Program files on an OS installation that is 64 bit. Good rule of thumb, do you have more than 4 gigs of ram? If so you prolly have 64 bit OS unless the person who built and setup the PC wasn't very knowledgeable
  25. First, my "claim" was not that it is that way at this very moment. This system was just implemented, once it is closer to finalized it will act much like the standard distribution that CDel describes. Programming is an iterative process. You start with a block of shite, and fine tune it until it does everything you want with no fat. Second, obviously we didn't know about it doing what it did, otherwise Riia would have not said "Thanks for pointing this out." What we KNEW is that items had this range in live. What wasn't happening was that it wasn't dropping like this but instead up to 180% quality which was (very very very very + 10e^126) bad, at least for the game overall. We're going to make the decisions for the game that make the game better in the long run, even if it hurts folks who are testing in the short term. If you don't want to deal with this kind of thing, the only other option you have is not to play until we're finished, but that is of course up to you because frankly the more people we have hitting the server, the quicker we find these bugs and fix them.
