1. That's good news that EA dumped the trademark registration. I do think it would be hard to get them to hand over or license the game materials to us though. There's very little in it for them to gain, and the process would require them to assign some legal professionals to work it out, which costs cash money - corporations don't like to spend money if there's nothing to gain by it. It's always worth a try though - it would be awesome if we didn't have to question our every action, worrying it might get us sued.
2. Interesting that Keith Szarabijka is also Harbinger, and various minor characters, in the Mass Effect series. That guy sure does a lot of video game VOs; his page on IMDb is pretty much a list of every major video game of the past decade.
3. I sure do like the idea of Progen tacos, bet they'd be nice and spicy. The problem with in-game ads is twofold: First, we already modify the EnB client, which EA owns the rights to, but doing so to add adverts and generate revenue would be a pretty blatant use of EA's intellectual property for gain. Second, I don't think we could get advertisers. Real MMO companies hire teams of lawyers to help them broker those ad deals, and the usual small-time advertiser, the mighty and powerful Google, dropped us like a hot rock after they saw what we do.
4. Not necessarily. The process you go through to change sectors is essentially the same as when you first enter a sector, with the exception that your data is not loaded from the database and you don't need to log in again with your account credentials or select your avatar. A problem in the code which is common between the two processes would affect both. Also, It seems Tienbau may have found a solution to the problem, but it's hard to confirm just yet.
5. So you guys know, the server is up now, but it's still having login problems. You will get in if you try long enough, but try leaving the game alone for 10 minutes or so if your login doesn't immediately succeed. Something is getting stuck in the login code which is causing the server to freak out when there is a higher number of logins occurring simultaneously. I'm waiting for the performance profiler report to be processed on the server so we can pinpoint the problem area of the code. If all goes well, the server will be fully fixed some time tomorrow, but the login troubles will continue until at least then.
6. There was talk of maybe working on a completely separate and new game after EnB gets running real nice, of course that's one of those things that we all want to do but rarely actually have time to. As far as re-writing the client: it'd be an extremely difficult task, given the one to three programmers we may have at any given time. It would be way too much for us to tackle; we'll have to stick with the old-timey EnB client and the ever-looming malicious overlord EA.
7.
i think a big portion of issues when it comes to donating has to do with the fact that it takes paypal atleast 2 months to get your bank account hooked into their system plus they charge fees for their service so your 20 dollar donation just turned into 25-28 plus factor in that some are in different countries and the exchange rates therein just took their 20 dollars and made it 45 plus the fees for converting the funds.
I haven't had that much trouble with PayPal myself, but it sure is annoying that they take a portion of our donations, especially given how difficult it can be to reach our goals. Unfortunately, I don't think we have much choice. We could charge credit/debit cards directly, but that presents security issues which we probably don't want to get tangled up in, and we could use e-checks, but we'll still run into problems with security, international transaction fees, and we would have to use bank and routing numbers, which I expect most people would find very annoying. Sadly, I think PayPal is really our only option.
8.
Though I personally don't think it's much of a bother, if something like this were to be implemented, I think the best way would be to enable access the vault on any of the characters on the same account. It could be set up with a simple command line switch. I you wanted to access your traders vault for instance, and his name was BobTT, you could just type "/vault BobTT" and the server would redirect the vault interface to show BobTT's vault instead of the current toon. Default for the /vault command should be your the current toons vault, so you could go back to your own vault by simply typing "/vault".
Actually, I quite like that idea. I don't think it would be terribly hard to do, either... {edit} isn't this beaten to death yet? =)
I hope one doesn't have to go through a factioned gate to use it.
Ha. That would be some nice irony. It'd be dangling right there in front of your face, but you'd have no way of reaching it. >=D
10.
i'm sad. now i actually have to do all the work my wife asked me to. lol
Unacceptable! Restarting...
11. I see your account has been activated, Tasha. Presumably someone saw the thread and activated it for you. Please do let us know when that happens - that's what the tech support forum is here for.
12. Have you tried using Packet Optimization and Prototype Reordering in the launcher? Sometimes those help with map-screen crashes.
13. I assume your login is "bigbenny"? The account is now activated.
14. I see it there, I assume you re-created it? Have you tried submitting a ticket to the GMs at http://support.net-7.org ? This is really more their department. Could someone have disbanded your guild by accident? It's fairly impossible for a guild to just drop off the server otherwise.
15. The problem is with the intermediate certificates I believe. The free SSL cert I got for us is a pain in that it's got some trust problems. I'll try again to figure out how to correct the problem.
16. Were you running this with "local Cert" checked? Tienbau, if you see this, does the proxy contact the server on 443 during every sector change? If so, what for?
17.
I registered with the forums and launch net 7. Why does the game keep telling me I haven't completed registration? I registered with both things I was supposed to. I'm not seeing anything else I need to do. Can anyone explain this to me?
You should have received an activation e-mail at the address you used to sign up at net-7.org. You can't login until you follow that link to activate your account.
18. Please submit a support ticket at http://support.net-7.org and a GM will either help you get the mission or give you the skill if the mission is indeed broken.
19. Has this just started, or have you had this problem for a long time?
20. There was a problem with the page script. It should be working now. Please try again.
21. Indeed, if your connection is dropping packets or scrambling the data, you probably have some bits flipped somewhere, which invalidates the entire file. I would recommend downloading the file from a different link with a different browser or file download program. The portal rotates links automatically, so if you're getting the file via http://www.net-7.org/?page=downloads , you can just download the file again and you're likely to get a new link.
22.
I'm not entirely sure that there is a lack of funding by 30% this month. I just donated because it seemed to be really needed, but that didn't show any chance in progress. There is in fact no donations since april 19th which I highly doubt is true. There seems to be a bug with donations being registered. Regarding wipes: I rarely play so a wipe is not really much fun for me. I understand the need to perform them, and would expect one when the game is ready for a wider audience.
I notice you didn't get put in the donators member group either. Did you do the donation through the donation section here?
23.
Net7Proxy version 2.09 27/04/11 21:31:53 Experimental packet re-ordering in use Using IP: 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1) 27/04/11 21:31:53 Attempting to connect to IP address: 87.106.131.253 27/04/11 21:31:53 Sending login. 27/04/11 21:31:54 login OK 27/04/11 21:31:54 UDP packet optimisation selected (reduces server load). 27/04/11 21:31:54 Listener unable to bind to socket on port 127.0.0.1:443 27/04/11 21:31:55 Connecting to Authentication Server on 87.106.131.253:443 This is as far as the proxy goes Cdel. Nothing else happens unless I manually go into the file and click the client and then it launches the game. Im running Windows XP and have never had this problem. The Launcher stays at that point until I either manually launch or it terminates the proxy window on its own.
Net7proxy may not be proceeding because it can't connect to the authentication server. Uncheck the "Local Cert" checkbox in the launcher and try again.
24.
The problem with an optional chat filter is it may filter the letters, but I don't think I've had any issues putting 2 and 2 together since I was about 10 years old. I think we're all on the same page but portraying ourselves inaccurately. No one ever said the use of one foul word would cause the ban hammer to come down. It's the excessive use of foul and offensive language that the mods are trying to limit and control here. The intent behind this whole thread, I think, is to maintain and increase server population. You may not have any issues with language, I may not, Mimir may not, and Kyp may not, but there may be that 1 or 2 out there that does. The highest online I've seen at once was about 205, if you offend 5 people to the point they no longer log in, then you just caused 2.5% of the active server population to drop the game. Right now we simply don't have the player base to be able to afford a drop of 2.5% due to something as easily avoidable as offensive language. It's the 26th in a 30 day month, and we're still 35% away from having enough donations to cover the monthly costs of running the emulator, how many of those could/would have contributed a little to keep the emu running? In other words (not aimed directly at kumquat, completely rhetorical) Is being able to swear worth the cost of the continued operation of the emulator? (Yes I understand people quit the emulator for various reasons, lack of content, slow updates, poor support/interoperability, having differing views than the developers and what not. Fine, those are acceptable reasons, but is swearing and talking nasty in chat an acceptable reason?)
That's an interesting point, and something we of course need to be concerned about, but chat filters get people on the opposite side of the issue upset too. It seems like an optional filter might be the most fair solution, but it would also take programming time to implement, and we have precious little of that to spare right now.
25. It isn't the best, but it's what we've got at the moment: https://forum.enb-emulator.com/index.php?/topic/714-install-enb-from-scratch-instructions-rev-7222010/
