I have a theory based on what I have seen, and also based on the data so far in this thread. Is it possible Tien, that this isnt server side, but client side. That the client is calling for wayyy too many ammo animations. Like, theres no GPU on earth that could keep up with as much ammo imagery as is being pulled, and its looping back on itself? Its a thought I guess, but Ive noticed when the spiking is baddddd its when full combat has been engaged for a while, and since the data spikes really start only while firing... This only seems to happen to the toon doing the tanking/killing This only seems to happen in overwhelm combat with multiple mobs This only seems to happen to progens or people with uber turbo setups. This only seems to happen with mobs that take a minute to kill. Other players watching, arent lagging out, they see whats going on in real time, so its not the server lagging. See where I am going with this? Maybe tell the client to only call for firing animations once every 5 shots on that high of turbo? With my guns idle I sit at 500-600 with those vindis, maybe 1000 if they are really wailing on me. The moment I fight back BLAM data throughput goes through the roof. Which makes sense... since thats 6 animations every second, plus all the calculations and whatever. Not to mention the damage counts and everything else. On top of being wailed on by 8+ mobs.
thanks for running those, much appreciated. There's still much work to be done. gating involves a huge data spike, so that's expected.
Yeah thats what I assumed, I was just amused when I spiked to 12000. I was like okay Tien, 2500 huh, hows 5 times that bro. XD But yeah, im gonna get in game soon and sit and stress for a while, pull some screens when I actually lagout. See if the numbers are the same or worse. What I noticed last night is my FPS slowly tanks over time. It never went under 39/40 but it was going down slowly over the course of those 10 mins or so.

Id like to point out, this was all in about 10 minutes. I didnt have the time to sit there and let it "build" and get worse. I wasnt having actual "lag" doing this. However, after a while, it just gets worse and worse until the point of im delaying 20 seconds or so. However Tien if transfer rates are spiking 4500-5000+ when you say 2500 is your target, theres gotta be something fundamentally wrong here. Note for emphasis: DR increases INSANELY when I am actually firing. Like on the order of 2400 not firing to 5500 when I am. Oh and my memory use in taskmgr was: 135687k not any higher than EnB usually runs for me. When Ive got more time, ill sit there longer and give some more data.

Baseline FPS in F7: Hovers around 180 Baseline Network bar in F7: 100/Green... Vol: 150-200 So I am leaving F7 and just gated to Slayton, wow on the gate exit I control I click and my DR is 6700 for about 5 seconds as I enter the sector. Now its back to 200 Yes I just realized I took the wrong gate to get to Nif like a boss. Derp @ me thinking Nif was Via GO and not Freya for .3 second. Turning around... Gating to akeron: 12000 Data spike, I assume this is normal on gating? Warping through Akerons: 1500 - 2000 solid. Gate to Freya: 8000, then drops to base of 20-40 sitting still, then warping at like 300ish Gating to Nif: (as i got to the gate to nif in freya, just as i passed the naglfars the DR hovered 1200 and stayed there) 6000, dropped to 120 after gating sequence ended. Ok Im buffed and heading to the shipyard. Warping past the planet this is weird, DR is steadily increasing, it was 300, now its 1100, still going up 400 at the nav, lets fight In combat, hovering 3000Data/FPS 57 w/ 4 mobs on me Ok lets stress it. Going to nav 2 to get the 48s to mass aggro me like the other day FPS drops to about 40 with 8 mobs on me Vindis/Cucumbers. When not firing my DR is 2800, when Firing my PLs spikes of over 5000 are seen. Posting this, and Ill put some screenies in here in edits.
6.
Winamp in the background while running the game with music disabled works for me.
Thats what i do, but would be awesome to have music blend into the game itself >.>

Orga: Im using a GTX 240 (fairly decent performance video card from 2 years ago) and i lag just as bad as anyone else. Its not the video settings. The only people that would suffer terribly are ones with comps from like 2000 or earlier. I mean we have guys in here with i7 processors and GTX580s saying they are lagging. That tells you something. My surmise is its just old semi incompatible code and serverside setups that just arent working efficiently. Im sure the devs are doing their best, knowing its a reverse engineering and recoding nightmate. TBH tho, the devil is in the details, theres probably some little thing here or there thats causing the whole mess, packet flooding that doesnt need to be happening, etc. Im sure Tien or someone else will find it if we keep digging up symptoms. Like I said, EnB live was fully runnable and enjoyable on machines that today I wouldnt even give to my kids for word processing.

Yeah whoever is saying its your PC or connection is a total noob really. Remember this game was originaly intended to run on 2000 and 2001 computers... were talking like 800Mhz/1ghz processors and 128/256 Megs of ram here. Anyone on a computer made after 2009 has like 10-20 times the system reqs at LEAST, even a crap walmart comp with an integrated graphics card from last year should be able to multibox like 6 accounts at once on a 4 or 6 meg connection no prob. Heck I remember leading fishbowl raids on teamspeak with a gateway 1.3Ghz Celeron machine and dialup.
Lag has gotten worse over the past few weeks when fighting large groups of mobs. The way I usually do it is with my PW and a TT in tow. I can gather up groups of say 5-6 fish in Cooper without any problems, but when the group of mobs grows to 15-20 things start going downhill fast. It's usually ok for a few minutes when the mob count is growing. After a few activations of group sapping sphere and Shield Nova it starts to get progressively worse. The problem seems to be exacerbated when the ten-gu start to engage Rally and the animation is being displayed across 10-20 mobs. It's a very odd sort of lag too. My PW will get bogged down to the point where my guns stop shooting and skills don't activate. If I engage warp my ship will go through the animations but remain stationary. If I swap to my TT's account though she is fine, she can use her skills and heal my PW all day long while the fight continues. The only way to get out of this situation alive is for my PW to fly away from the area at full impulse while my TT heals him. I thought that it might have been an issue with the PC I was using when I first encountered this issue. My main gaming PC was down for repair and I was using my fileserver to play. I tested this issue again when my gaming rig was back on it's feet with the same results. My main gaming rig is a watercooled i7-2600k with 16GB's of ram and 3 580GTX graphics cards. Since the issue is not machine specific and it doesn't seem to effect the other 2-3 accounts running on my PC it leads me to believe that it has to do with the way the server is communicating data to my PW during these massive fights. There has to be a major bottleneck somewhere. I hope the description of my problem helped in some way Edit: Forgot to mention that this is occuring near the Observation navs around the Tada-O gate.
This is a much better decription than I gave in my post earlier, but what you had going on here, IDENTICAL to what i get every time I am in cooper or the other day in Nif. It starts out ok, then whoever the mobs are actually aggroing to, just gets annihilated with lag. My guildie was like "your skills are firing, I can see them", but on my side it was like a 10-15 second delay. Eventually they lagged out too as the second wave would come in. Another time youll notice how bad it actually is, is try targeting a nav for a quick warp escape, just targeting it can take 20 seconds before it comes up. You click it, 20 second later hey there it is on the reticle.
10. TBH, nearly all the content has been tested and retested. What new stuff comes out, people do. Personally I am here to play the game as best as it can be played, and test as I go. Just like the devs dont get paid for making it, I dont get any benefit from arduous retesting of content thats been worked on forever. What bugs or issues I do find, I bring up. (such as a combat lag report i got from PLAYING THE GAME i submitted to tienbau yesterday) Turning this into a test retest boredom grind isnt going to solve anything, that whole idea if implemented would just make people leave. There arent enough people that you can just take the "so leave then, we dont need you" line either. We barely seem to make donations per month as it is, theres very few regular players on a daily or weekly basis. We can only test new stuff as it comes, what do we do when theres no new releases? Sit and twiddle our thumbs waiting for the next patch? I dont even see a list anywhere of "what we need data on, go to X and do Y for an hour, tell us what happens". Notice when Tienbau asked for Lag feedback how many people went and did it? Like 10 people came out and reported in. What do we do in the meantime though, with no clear cut testing instructions.... we group/guild up, form alliances, friendships, running buddies, etc, and play what we have. NO to tearing the community to shreds by destroying all guilds, thats using a chainsaw on a splinter.
11. Triviate has been spotted in the EMU, good times.
12. Sidenote: the controller spawns every day? LOLLLLLL Did we forget it was like A TWO WEEK TIMER on live? Really guys...
13. I was in one the smaller major guilds on andro. I remember this BS. Thats what it is, BS. "me big guild me tell you when you can has stuff" Then we did it by ourselves, playing their way on our little time, having all of us basically kowtow to another guilds leadership. Screw that, PM me in game and put together a party, lets smash some KSing out and disrupt the monopoly. I doesnt even afraid. Nearly 10 years of gaming under my belt now, and a crapload of PvP griefing taught me the benefits of bringing the little guy together. Remember most of the people in these big bulky guilds are the same 5-10 people with like 100 toons between them, keeping all the good crap for themselves and their 23435345345 accounts, farming the system, while the other 100 individuals with 400+ toons between us sit and cry about it. Oh and for the record - LOL @ guild tags. Im still OC to the core, we just havent made the guild yet. Band it up. You dont have to have static under your toons name to be able to cooperate with a static member. You dont have to be in Ballistic Mystix to play with me either. Im down to do some competition, u scared? Heck as long as FB or troller hasnt changed since live, im still the old OC raid leader so I know how they are done. Forget tactics, I know em. Give me some bodies, and a time. We got dis. Contact in game.
14. probably someone that took combat and explore jobs together, did combat first, blew up the satellites and didnt get credit for the rest

Vindis drones in Nif are awful for lag with more than 6 or 8 pounding on you.(Shipyard nav) Was my PW with a guildie on his TT, we got wrecked by 20 second delays once they all mobbed on us. (actually got through it once, barely, but the second time we got a mass mobbing, it was just too much. I run a gaming PC, it aint my comp) Cooper by the 55 fish when the 53s and 51s spam that tactics buff every 10 seconds is just as bad. (Tet nav and around the desash spawn) The respawn rates are just insane too. Kill 1, another 2 spawn, to like a max of 12, then they stop til you kill a few, then BLAM all back again. It just builds on itself. So no matter what you do, sans a full DPS group, you get into this impossible cycle of just getting drowned in lag and mobs.
16. that would be kinda awesome actually heavy metal enb, awww yeaaaa
17.
So, guild members and friends, that can be done easily. Like CDel said though, it would not be possible to change the colour (aka color ), unless we actually override the standard message format and just display the notifications in the chat window. I think the only colour choices for the 'computer:' window are green and red. Actually I would like this anyway too; I come online and everyone thinks there's going to be a restart, like I am some sort of harbinger of doom ..
YESSS I CAN USE IT IN CONTEXT TIENBAU LOGGED IN RUNNNN!!!! PS: This might also help some in the direction I was trying to get at with the guild members list displaying whos actually on.

19. So this discussion was raised last night in New Players channel. About five people, including myself, were discussing it, and then later this morning I saw yet another discussion on it, albeit briefly. Most of the people involved appeared to me to be solo players or returning players, or relatively new. Then someone said "botting is allowed, etcetc" and I wanted to raise a point. Just because you can do a thing, doesnt mean you should or are encouraged to do a thing. Seriously botters with 4-6 toons at a time, hogging up everything just so they can have how many dozens of toons? Thats really arrogant and rude to the other players out there slowgrinding their way up one toon at a time. In other games I have been in, there has always been a fine line about things like this. Gray areas around spawn camping or hogging marketspace or so on. (the general rule of thumb has always been that if its denying content to other players, it should be put a stop to, at least in every other game ive played) Really we just watched job terminals go through tweaks and updates to give us more jobs, and even staggering the jobs to make it more fair to grab. Grab four or so toons and mob the terminal, get every job, right botters? The little guy, the solo player, the returning player, the infrequent weekend warrior.... they all get cut short by greedy "minemineitsallmine" players swarming the system. Rather than having the devs keep trying to fix the system thats never really been broken to begin with, can something be done to discourage botting of jobs? I dont know what mechanic it could be, but honestly in VT and Earth stations (last I heard) its been pretty ridiculous. Maybe put all levels of jobs on all terminals, and mix it up so theres no one "precious best" place to go swarm farm with multiple accounts? Just a thought.
20. As long as the Master is still spamming Broadcast with "ALL SHALL FALL BEFORE THE MASTER" each time he one shot kills someone, im happy tbh.

Ventrilo/Teamspeak, call your stuff and targets, lol >.> But yeah this might be nifty I guess, I just always went with the vent/ts way of coordinating multi groups.
22. Cool CDEL, ive asked around in game too, and to a couple guildies, and they also would love to see this. My main gripe is that I literally never know whos on in guild, and even if I ask in channel, theres no guarantee they are watching for it (or if they are watching other channels, it would be bumped off before even seen) Id love to get B-M doing stuff as a guild, im a natural organizer for raids and stuff, but being as I came in late and its so established who goes with who, its just one of those additional tools to get the ball rolling.
23. My actual vote is no also. I have gamed in several sandboxes that required immense amounts of exploring and learning by failing. If you ever played a crafter in star wars galaxies early on youd get this. The Uber capped gear literally took years to figure out and obtain. Even after people started getting stuff, it was almost 4 years into the games life before it was wholesale free for all. I liked that part, not everyone was just capped out within a month.
