  1. If you're seeing the load icon, that sounds like maybe something is preventing execution. Check your antivirus solution, there should be an exclusion area. I would recommend excluding the directory you have us installed in. The code is not well known and it is not signed by a code-signing certificate so Antivirus software may prevent its execution.
  2. You can uninstall it, assuming you used the Universal installer from the appwiz.cpl (Add/Remove Programs), if you didn't you just have to remember where you put everything and delete it.
  3. ^ Had we not had issues with code surrounding it, this would have been done last July.
  4. Guys (and Sage, since we already had this conversation I think).. as Zack notes above the whole Elliptic Curve and SSL/TLS thing. Windows XP and Vista do not support these current and future certificates. It's simply no longer an option. People have clung to XP over 7 -- although personally as a sysadmin and such else in my day to day life this confuses me -- however, the time has passed where you can use it reliably. Since Microsoft stopped supporting XP on April 8 2014 and Server 2003 on July 15 2015, we can't really offer any kind of support. We must maintain the basic security of your connections and can't do this without using secure certificates. You'll also note that if you visit a site with an older certificate in your browser, at least with Internet Explorer anyway, you will see that the lock icon disappears for any cert not capable of these new algorithms. This is their way of allowing people some time to upgrade, and its already been extended several times, they're not going to do it again and this has already been established. (example: http://www.infoworld.com/article/3064654/security/tick-tock-time-is-running-out-to-move-from-sha-1-to-sha-2.html) I understand not wanting to buy anything you don't *have* to or whatever, but this is at the highest levels of the organizations that establish these requirements. I'm sorry if you're upset, but there's nothing we can do about it.
  5. Delete the mentioned file and trigger the download again, it should pull it down. It's saying the local copy of the file and what we have on the patch server have some sort of discrepancy it can't reconcile.
  6. Correct, this is one of the aforementioned file-based solutions.
  7. Half of these are bad ideas to begin with and have never actually fixed anyone's problem, I would think. We do not recommend EVER turning off a firewall or antivirus, just add exceptions for our software to those systems if you encounter issues. The main reason you would in this case is because they are unsigned code. The TH6 files or the actual map itself are the usual culprits for this kind of an issue. So here's what I recommend as a next step: In LaunchNet7's main folder, there is a subfolder 'Database', default install path C:\Program Files (x86)\Net-7\database, remove the GalaxyMap.dat file Tell the launcher system to reset updates, and let it download again. On next launch, tick the box to to delete TH6 files, and also what are the rest of the settings on this page of the Launcher before you click play? Depending on MTU of your given router (most default to 1500 these days) we may need specific settings. Hope that helps. Let us know.
  8. Impossible because we don't have the code for the client. The client is basically as is, except for the ways we've learned to manipulate it through associated game files.
  9. I think this may be the sector, I'll have to look it up sometime, but one of them uses a port that is known to be used by certain types of attacks, so it is possible it is being filtered at the ISP for the purposes of providing better service. This could be very much why.
  10. This is of course open for you to put out if people were to desire it, but our stance to be clear is simple. Nothing completely unattended, as in if you're doing some action and someone happens to think you are unresponsive they might report you to a GM if one happens to be available who may check on you. If they do, and you don't respond it is a problem and there will likely be some sort of disciplinary action as a result. As long as you can answer, macro happily away all you want. To me, takes the fun out of playing though.
  11. There are old files floating around out there, but current code or data are not available in a completely public fashion. However, if you want to join the team we don't turn anyone away that has motivation and some kind of skill to contribute (and can get along with everyone else, of course)
  12. Apologies, I was otherwise occupied for a bit, but have restarted sunrise. There appeared to be an event with our host that I plan to ask them about tomorrow.
  13. Unified Installer should also be right click > run as administrator. Mainly because in both cases these applications write to your registry in the HKLM hive, and that is protected by UAC if you do not have it disabled.
  14. Save the unified installed to your desktop. It doesn't matter where it is. Once you have both it and the E&B_demo (or the original CD if you still have it), you launch the game from cd or demo using Run As Administrator. When the installation is complete, you launch the unified installer and it will locate and patch/bring it as up to date as the unified installer was (I believe I put that together in 2009 or 2010) and from there register your game accounts (happens before unified installer exits, I think) and log in, wait for patching to current and you should be in.
  15. Assuming it is the real one, disable compatibility settings on the net7proxy.exe and see if you see the same thing. This is used for app compatibility. The .DLL being uppercase *could* be the way they entered the variables that receive the file names for an event log, but like Zack says it could potentially be a piece of malware. A full/thorough scan of your system might be a good idea.
  16. Perhaps it would, but it would break other things downstream if we allowed it, not to mention potentially devaluing items that have ended up in the wrong places. When supply exceeds demand, value drops. If we've made it non-tradable it was either that way originally or if it's a new item we generally have a pretty good reason for it, even if it's not apparent.
  17. Well, based on the documents I have any time you took damage the recharge will temporarily stop and then recover. Unfortunately, between 2002 and 2006 (when we got it working again, finally to a multiplayer level) too much time had passed for memory to be reliable so this is what we went with. I can tell you this, with the way DoT works, if we made the shields charge continuously they would be completely ineffective because the damage wouldn't be able to "tick" fast enough to overcome some recharge rates at all. Therefore you'd end up having to use things like explosive and impact to a much greater degree than you do today.
  18. I reviewed the chat log around the time your account was adjusted. I see roughly the following: You started talking about how you didn't like super easy, and wanted a challenge. You saw his tag after he spoke in the channel and decided to start talking about a mission and asking for a fix/solution. (Incidentally, this wouldn't be the way to report such a thing, that's why we have a bug tracker. You don't just flag down a developer and ask them to look at it because it's not tracked that way where I can follow an issue if there is one.) As far as the "crap code", let me know if you've got skills with C++, I can certainly let you see if you can find a solution to the problem with timers, which are complex to begin with and no easier because we have to use UDP communication which is not guaranteed. It isn't as easy as people often assume it is. So we're also clear: "Evermore, I think it's a good thing Kyp is cutting you from the dev team. You stink and so does your attitude. Yeah, don't bother trying to help me and thereby get me to shutup about the mission, just do as you did, call me names and then kick off the server so you won't have to listen to me. Thanks for the abuse, pal. You just made the world a darker place with your hateful whining about players that don't respect you. Wow." I'm not "cutting him from the dev team", Evermore has chosen to retire his position and is doing so. Looks to me like the mobs that came into question are there, and a quick check of the sector shows them near their spawn points as per our sector editor. The chat log doesn't support this at all. He didn't call you a name, even once. All I see, is him not replying like you want him to then you stating that he's taking it personally, calling him intolerant and something about our kids killing each other in the schools, which I'm guessing is some kind of pointer to the US and gun violence in the schools although I have no idea what relation that has to this. The temporary ban you've been given -- which I see has already expired -- aligns with rules 12 and 16 of the Terms of Service which are visible in the pop up window that you must click "I agree" on for the game client to launch. I'm going to be very clear about something, the developers I bring into the game are not here to deal with issues from you, that's what the game masters are for. They're here to do the work I assign them in respect to the goals for the game that we have, which I can assure you is quite stressful enough. This expectation that the developers just drop what they are doing to look at a mission for someone is a common one and again doesn't align with the goal. If you have a problem, you report it in the bug track at the top of the forum. We will address it there. I can tell you without doubt that our server programmers are looking there on a regular basis for code bugs. It helps if you describe what you expect, what you're seeing and if possible include screenshots if they can display the problem. If it's content related, we'll also see it there and test what you've reported and make a determination on whether there is actually a bug or you were just unlucky.
  19. Nah, NOS was in the original game, RD Base drop. I might listen to player ideas and suggestions but they don't make it in verbatim. We have to consider all the other game mechanics when we add new items. It's a fairly rare occurrence, the vast majority of items there today are from a collection of live database exports we had from various player sites that were around during the live game. Also: Bogeril hate Terran Enforcers because Terran Enforcers are constantly killing them. They don't just hate Terrans in general, they dislike the others by association primarily. constant recharge? clarify please. I believe the shield system we have now came from a combination of the original design documents and patch notes that were collected from the live site to define how they worked with a tad bit of balancing.
  20. So, given your opinion, I presume you think you can do better?
  21. I did indeed, but I answered quickly. Clicked the wrong quote link.
  22. Maybe, but we weren't the ones who broke that.
  23. in the past couple of hours. I was cleaning some firewall rules out after our meeting and when I made a change it was no longer allowing some of my custom groups to be nested into other rules. I believe I have this all sorted now so all public facing services should be back. Please make a thread in our Tech support section if you run into any issues accessing an expected service.
  24. There was a bug with JEs that allowed them to put on their buff and leave it forever at one point. That would get you up to almost 15K sight range, but no equipment combination that I see that could provide that much range with it. I remember barely breaching 9K even with some of the best gear Terrans could get. At any rate, most of what was described there has always been controlled by the equipment. Most of the calculations are about the same or as close as we could get them. We are not stunting anyone's damage of any way in which i'm aware other than perhaps some equipment not being available. Terrans are meant to be the middle ground between Progen and Jenquai who have different play styles. Therefore it makes sense that they are nearly what they are today. Terrans were about speed and $ first and foremost.
