1. Or install EnB Notifier so it'll let you know when the servers come back online? Oh and as for the OP with n7 saying it's online, sometimes the server crashes slooowly. There is a server status thread to check when your not sure.
 2.
Not every player would be able to get there.
That's pretty much the point, it's not easy to get to, not easy to find, maybe even require some freewarp searching, and having a decent enough reward making it irresistible to find. Much like the EMU. People still always showing up that played EnB and just found the EMU.
 3. Hmm.. maybe kill every unneeded process in task manager? I've had conflicts in the past where a running app just would not allow another to run, which is more common with 3D graphical applications or games. Like once I installed windowblinds and then the first thing I noticed my modelling app just quit working. After killing windowblinds, the problem was solved. Make sure you have net framework installed and updated. Registry errors can cause problems. Alternate graphics drivers and/or graphics card app settings.
 4.
Yep, don't think this thread has gone un-noticed.
Yeaaah.. I've noticed the thread has gotten some views.
7[s]Music compositions (space themed music etc.) [/s]s] Not me.. 9[s]Clip-art/website fan art [/s]s]I'll pass on this too
Oh I tried to think of a little something for everyone, or at least a few things on the list anyone more animated than a potato could do Gee like concept art I'm not good at, I took mechanical drafting classes and then mechanical CAD at work, my nekid woman on a chair portrait looks robotic lol. Though music composition is a strong point for me etc. I was thinking more along the lines of novice and expert levels, more than one entry group per contest, though one entry per person. For total beginners, it could be a good place to get info/instruction on picking up some new skill then see what you can enter with a month of practice time. I'm not worried about it, I have lots of things to do, but I'd probably enter most of the contests if they wanted to do something like that. For someone to host, it should be pretty simple, I figured it would be a good job for the Adv or someone. But I could think of additional ideas for competitions, like for the hardened programers maybe a third party app competition - then maybe we will have more than one being the EnB Notifier (which is handy). For a current application, a design contest for the Westwood memorial - concept drawing/modeling, whatever As for music composition, if we had 8 or 10 good entries (mine would be one, I make space music among other styles), we could cut it as a community album, winner gets track 1 and post the album on one of the free copy-left sites. EnB Emulator fan music CD or what have you.
 5.
for those that weren't part of this great game in the day, educate them a bit on what innovators they were etc.
Well it certainly was innovative for the day. What the mmo market then was, was a growing amount of pioneering mmo players and developers, but being the market saturated with high-fantasy games. No EVE, no SWG:JTL, no Star Trek nor BSG mmo. In other words, the elves dominated the new frontier while the vacuum of space was left mostly empty and void. Then came Westwood, having already published some great games, focused their attention on making a space mmo, and the rest was history. Though history is not over, that’s why I suggest Smugglers Run (BW) for the location. I think it’s a good way to honor the work that Westwood did to produce this game. And even though evil EA decided to go to EA land and drop EnB, it today lives on in the quiet hidden underworlds of known space. +1
 6.
Let us know when it's safe to use themes other than the basic that we're seeing now. Don't want to switch themes and be unable to do anything. Had that happen before it was reset for everyone.
They just have the default theme installed that probably came with the update along with the mobile version. They're going to probably need to rebuild the custom themes however long that takes (not long, they looked based on the default theme, an image modification). When i build themes, I do it on my own system with the forum software installed, which is probably what they are doing so wont be installed until it's ready
 7.
You should be kicked out of the old layout now.
Ok it worked that time. I see you uninstalled them. It’s on the default theme now. Now as I loaded the editor to reply, the editor was still not accepting input text. But this time when I did a firefox CTRL+F5 (clear cache) it loaded the editor correctly. So anyone with FF and having problems with the editor, try a CTRL+F5 or clear your browser cache anyway you can.
 8. See look under here http://www.net-7.org/?page=downloads (hit downloads link on the left there - wont link here directly) Should be named "Original Design Docs" at the bottom of the list with currently 135 D/L's Same thing?
 9. Pretty sure it's in the download section here. At least I know of only one design doc for the emu. I remember that there was a time it wasn't in the download section for a bit, I think before ST4 - after the forum account wipe.
 10.
Of course the content has to stay closed
No dispute on that at all. But like I said, it's been over a year since last mentioned and there has been no real move to reopening the essential parts of the project to opensource. And I'm not sure why anyone would be complaining about developing on an opensource project, especially as it started out as a community supported opensource project and pretty much all emu's are opensource in that respect. I see no issues with not distributing a large part of the db - so if someone does try to start their own pve server... well they sure will have a lot of work to do to be anywhere near the level of playable content that this server has, and most that do try are usually the sort to not know really how much work it is to add content to an mmo. So I don't think you really need to worry about that, as I know it's been mentioned before. And just to mention since I brought this up again, no I'm not looking to start a server with the enb emulator, I already have a project I work on (not an emu), absolutely no time to have a commitment to developing an emu. However, I know of others that feel the same about the change to closed source, and want that to be corrected in the near future as well. K thanks
 11.
All this being done by people that are doing it on their own time without Pay!
It started out as opensource (as started by the original dev members), as I strongly want it to return to and remain. You shouldn't need to ask for an example, and anyone with programing expertise should be allowed to contribute bug fixes for testing and review as well as test on their own home servers etc. I wasn't looking for a reason to bring this up again, but it's sad to see someone needing to ask for examples etc and a year has passed and still it's closed.
 12. Would like to see various contests for fun and enb promotional value. Say once a month hold an official contest for a variety of in-game rewards …and of course winners prestige. List of suggested contests: 1. Net-7/EnB promotional ad-like banners 2. Wallpapers 3. Forum signatures 4. Short movie/animation 5. Story writing contest 6. Concept modeling (like EVE did last year with ships …but not on :P) 7. Music compositions (space themed music etc.) 8. Concept art 9. Clip-art/website fan art 10. Best in-game screenshots Add a couple more and you have enough to repeat year after year. A monthly contest, then keep track of winners and links to their offerings. Usually winners selected by poll vote, but whatever. This is a suggestion for official promotion, generally player supported contests fizzle out after a time as the host gets bored. Rules vary on submissions, but generally it’s original work submissions and with public release in most cases - or in such cases as music under creative commons. But pretty much nothing to do with game content, not adding stuff to the game client, just promotional and fun stuff to share EnB themed.
 13.
..then..if i remember right i think stress test 1 was Jan of 2009....
yep, and in ST1, if you crossed the boundary in the only zone we could fly around in, you risked CTD. Happy good riddance to 2011 day!
 14. I get log-in problems too, it comes and goes. Like everyday around 3pm pst it's just on the fritz (other games/sites work fine). If I do manage to make it in around that time, I'll d-con at most every gate. Often in the later evening, it'll run flawless. But the login or proxy server is just irritating, a lot of non-connect messages between the launcher or the client. I haven't tried a trace rout yet, something I'll remind myself to do next time.
 15.
LOL What I suggested was to hide the fact that you are a DEV, make a new character and go incognito when you need that human companionship. Pop in as a DEV every now and then if you need the pain.
Oh yeah that too, but I don't think that is as important, I mean that is what GM's are there to do. It's just they don't need to be loosing dialog with the players altogether, after all this is an emu/hobby game and really the devs are a part of that community just as much as the players/testers that don't contribute code or art assets - though some may at some point. I do see players asking for devs to solve their in-game problems a lot, and I don't think that is a good usage of development time when the GM's are or should be trained well enough to file appropriate bug tickets with the devs (or feedback on filed tickets they encounter) while being able to resolve most in-game matters. Even in indie games, most that dev don't use tags in-game to show their position or contribution to the project, because yes there is always someone on to tie them up. And I have seen indie projects that where they did tag and it was/is constantly pulling them away from playing - or testing as they should be doing most times - as often devs like to dev, and should, even more than actually playing the game. Forums present a well enough dialog, even as exampled by the current PW thread which seems rather productive regarding the issues and presented solutions. I'm sure you have seen AAA game/support forums where policies were put into place to remove the available dialog opportunities between developers and players and left to a small handful of representatives, which in turn seem to turn the course of further game development away from what the game community enjoyed, into something that would become bland, uninteresting or turning towards the footsteps of another game all together (trying to emulate it e.g. WoW cloning ..or SIMS cloning if you know what I'm referring to hehe). But as for tagged in-game participation, that seems to still be a case of personal choice, whether they want to or not, all the time or not at all. I mean it's still a viable way to get input and understanding to the matters at hand, but in that case a GM or Adv can or should suffice as well.
 16. Sure! Totally agree ...when you graduate from EMU dev or even indie dev on to AAA dev and more so loaded down with NDA'a. If you like forums, participate in forums. This is your hobby, not your 9-5 job ...er or 5am-11pm job if you were stuck in the AAA.
 17.
I dunno about that, on Gali we had a few jerks, but they were few and very far between.
Yeah, Galileo was pretty tame. Geez, most mmo's back then were at least moderately tame ...at least compared to some of the communities on the newer mmo's today. A lot of asshats now me thinks (in other games). Kids these days hah! ps. I blame WoW. All the non-mmo players it brought around when mmo's became "cool".
 18.
Is there a DEV/BETA server or sector still? Make it PVP and let the warrior classes fight it out and see what happens. Stand toe to toe and fight use your skills, then do it again to win use all the skills you have at your disposal. JD Combat cloak and shoot, cloak shoot. etc etc etc Compile the data then adjust. (I know sounds simpler then it is especially with only two coders, I know) You/we may not learn any thing but it sure would be exciting Phorlaug
/agree Though I'd rather see large groups of warriors going at it to see how the PW fairs in the mix. Such as guild war arena battles with a ranking system (just use and adjust arena only load-outs for balancing issues). ...alright, let the killjoy flames begin
 19.
i agree the doug and bob video of a canadian x-mas is still a hoot..... *should had a poll on xmas battle of the bands..maybe next year) searing
Poll #1 Have you heard this song on the radio before? Yes: 1 Poll #2 Have you heard this song on the radio in the past 20 years? No: 1 *shrugs*
 20. Try forced update on the net-7 launcher. It's up in the menu > reset updates.
 21.
I'm older than a 32 year old song.
um yeah same here. I wasn't sayin or even insinuating it was older than you, if it matters. Come to think of it, I think I heard it 20 years ago the first time. Heard it on an AM talk or sports show. I'm not sure when or how it got popularized enough to make it to radio. Ahhh 79, a good year, BSG original series, ST:the motion picture, and Asteroids.
 22.
Agreed, it was okay when I was listening to it as a teenager, but by my current age, it just doesn't work for me. Plenty of other songs that are better, and more enduring, IMO.
At your current age? This song is older than probably a good amount of forum goers here. I remember hearing it for the first time like 15 years ago, but the song is actually over 30 years old. It comes and goes every year
 23. Not just by any reindeer mind you, but by the one and only "Gary the Green Nosed Reindeer"! Blarney the dinosaur probably had the reigns no doubt. Poor Grandma
 24.
Restarting the phone did fix it, thanks. WiMax is great cant wait for LTE
wimax with 4g? not so bad. I'm on 3g but my ping is almost as bad as dial-up, so I guess no more pvp games for a while hah, but I can still manage my remote server. They have me waiting on fios, up to two year wait. Lazy union employees wont fix my DSL line, they act like they owe their jobs to union reps rather than the company and subscribers they work for. I live in the hills so microwave isn't the best option, really. Ahh well good that solved the con prob, Tada-O!
 25. Oh and that 1% problem that's left, just to mention, sometimes I need to do a reconnect. I have two towers in range, and one is pretty sad 50% of the time, while the other is golden. It usually works on the poor tower, but not always, and then it wont log-in to enb at all. So after making sure your system us updated, and if it still has problems, then try like speedtest.net and/or just restart your cell or however you can reset your connection. And of course as with any transmitter, you want to have it located in the best possible place in your residence for the optimal reception, like if you have steel in the walls it could interfere. Oh well, at least it's still better than dial-up
