1.
True, but I don't think this game has any real earning potential anymore, not without a new client and completely re-done content. As much as I love EnB, I would have a hard time investing in it myself.
Sure, it needs DX9 and such, but no less viable than as for EQ1 running today, though of course that has over a decade of polish and awards for the work they did on the system. EnB didn't shut down because it bombed, but because EA bombed, and then turned their funding to EA Land... which they bombed at. Now of course years have passed, would take some investment to iron out the system, but still a closed source AAA game complete with content, 150k is a giveaway considering. Some of these companies want 500k just to look at their system, with no content, just engine and tool sets. It's only the past couple years that us indies started to get a little luv from them, some price breaks for special licenses that you couldn't even get a quote on before unless you sent them your companies earnings statement for an appointment where they figure out how much they can get out of you. I wouldn’t see Blizzard grabbing it lol, nor small startup indies, but in the middle seems to be a good investment for some company if just 150k. edit:Anyway it just caught me as odd, talking price I usually hear about doesn’t usually happen until they assess that you are eligible to purchase or license and then it comes to negotiations along with investors and lawyers all with their panties in a jumble. At least that’s how it used to work with negotiating purchases in the game industry apart from the now indie focused companies that are far more informal. EA though… some hardball there. Ever catch some of the public transcripts on video game negotiations/hearings covering their disputes (e.g. such as with Bethesda), it’s enough to make ones head spin. These big companies play for keeps hehe
 2.
trust me..if they get PvP working like in live, there will be the same whinefests in forums as in live about PS being so..so..SO OP! Nerf them now! it's not fair! (grabs ball and stomps off home in a huff)
Then it wouldn't be working, would it? Don't really need to nerf anyone, just do as EVE does with pvp loadouts. Could even make it were pvm equipment does little to nothing in pvp (with resist mods). PvP equipment with skill resists and pvp equipment resist calculations for weapons. Just good old item based adjustment. And then to further balance the issue, it should be fleet conflict rather than 1v1 (though 1v1 possible). Guild vs. guild or what have you, along with group conflict scenarios etc. And out of sight, out of mind, to a few special areas, not open pvp anywhere, no one else effected. Could even make a dedicated pvp class, one from each race with a balanced skill set just for pvp and any pvp sector yard trash mobs, though a little more complicated compared to just making loadouts. Maybe as development gets a little further along, we can start to seriously consider our options for it
 3.
They only wanted like 150k for it
Really?? That would be a major deal, would think it would have already been grabbed up by someone. Even SOE couldn't fail at that, where games go to die. Or some Korean game company. That's like a fraction of the cost compared to most other game engines, and not even beyond the development platform where as this is polished content with all the licensing tape sticky to it's underside which would inflate the fees and cost one would think. That's like nothing, salary for a couple programmers for a year, and for a stable system.
 4.
Well, there's people posting saying they got Radeon to do AA. So I'm guessing it's Case A: an odd gpu/driver setup... Perhaps you could try different drivers, or talk to people who have Radeons to see which drivers and cards they're using.
It's all ATI on this thread. I have the latest drivers but I haven’t tried to force run AA for I think two revisions, maybe three. I can't switch drivers, or prefer not to, I run common factory settings for FX Composer which was the whole point I dumped my ATI card and got rid of rendermonkey. But I haven't forced AA on EnB in a while, I'll make some time this weekend to run a test of it, though I'm not expecting any different results compared to last time.
 5.
As for C# on Linux. Yeaaaaaah.
Yeah I use that to run a server app I have, it's come a long way the past couple of years.
 6.
My suspicion is that people who think AA doesn't work on EnB at all either have some weird gpu/driver setup, they expect AA to result in perfect elimination of jaggies in all cases, expect the monitor to magically increase its DPI, or most likely simply haven't done a side by side comparison and are freaking out over edge cases, no pun intended.
We did get a side by side example in a previous post, where showing the overall degradation with the xp bar, though I can see it w/o seeing the xp bar, even in your pics. If my card would do it, I think I'd pass on it, it's a bit sloppy. It's not a weird card, it's an X series, I switched from ATI to this because it works better (with shaders) with the game engine I work with. In most cases where a game or render app has AA, even 2x does a good job with it while retaining crisp graphics. If it doesn't bother you, then your set, but I'm cursed with noticing stuff like that hehe bothers the hell out of me. It's like, you program, what if your app kept spewing out "Hello wUrld!" every ten minutes, you would want to snip the noob code out of it, right? Well for someone that lives in graphic apps, noob graphics suck too Ah well, no AA isn't so bad, would just be nice if this supported it natively, or did well externally. But thanks for showing examples.
 7.
Theres a PVP arena or Sector. (Boosss's and Hissss's)
+1 this Wanna pod me some trojens ..er progens. hah
 8.
ote] You could not, however, leagally use the logo we all know - I think that would be covered by the copyright on all the game art. Previous to this if you made anything named "Earth and Beyond" you'd have been in trouble, now you can use that name on a product/service but not the logo.
Yeah, I carefully added the word "create" as in not reuse Open your graphics app starting from blank and you should be ok. [insert previous disclaimer here]
Unlike what microsoft did with MW4 releasing it as freeware.and many other games companies have done either releasing the source code or the entire game outright. To bad they refuse to learn from others sucess (in MANY MANY WAYS).
Yeah they tend to do that. They did something like that with trueSpace, a modelling app. Microsoft bought it and then released it for free, though they had to remove a few features due to third party licensing. Of course downside is that it's not being developed any longer as it was and they ended gameSpace2 development too which I think would have been epic.
 9. 16:9? Works for me. Yeah stretched a little with EnB, oh but my Babylon 5 DvD collection is just SWEET with it! And they shot at that aspect ratio before widescreen was even the thing. Added with my surround sound and woohoo! I could go for wider though, I stick all my tools on the side in graphics and modeling apps, lots of real-estate, beats using a second monitor other than a tablet pc connected.
 10. temp wipe with restore sounds fine if it's something that will help with testing. Generally I hate even beta testing, I've signed up for like two closed beta tests for AAA mmo's over the past 15 years. Why test their stuff when I can just open my compiler and wind up frustrated to tears over my own poor coding rather than with theirs hehe. It's work. You just do it, it's not always about fun. But for me this is EnB and an EMU with no live alternative, so I don't mind playing a buggy game with testing in mind, as this isn't a AAA project pushing to get released tomorrow, but can take years here. Many of us have been playing here since ST1, I don't think we are going anywhere anytime soon. Keeping newer players is an important point of course, and those that weren’t on live as well, all welcome here, to help keep the project moving forward which needs people to test. I'm sure newer players, like in the past year that may have a 150 or two, probably hurt the most in a wipe, a chance to loose them. But for testing, a restore backup sounds reasonable.
 11.
Kyp is correct in that its only the naming of the product. So the Devs can use the name Earth and Beyond without any legal repercussion. However...and this is a big however.......EA still owns the code, art, sound, and all other assets used in the client.
Retains copyright, distribution rights, and general idea or theme much like you cant write a book about R2-D2 living on Tatooine servicing a moisture farm. But you can now create and sell an “Earth and Beyond” mug. Edit: Note: Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer. End Disclaimer.
 12. State of the union bwoke it? Darn it, was just loggin in heh. oh well back to the Rep response *shrugs* Should have covered the server in tin foil..
 13. how about permadeath PvP weekend?!? Woohoo! Then wipe the survivors (those that didn't log in to die) and deploy 10x XP for the following 90 days? Epic... purely epic hehe (yeah I know... :/ ) had ta be said though
 14. Yeah that too, not just that AAA's mostly do the f2p's which draws people away, but adding a wipe where they need to start over again, so start over again at one of those games instead of here, I think is a factor too or adds to it. Takes a long time to move up higher in levels, especially for us casual players. You start over again, that's pretty much a game changer, and you wind up repeating everything you did for the past six months or year. Purging inactive characters sounds more attractive, as many games do anyway. Though even then, returning players nay not be very happy about that.
 15. Player wipe now only if: 10X XP until Alpha Oh and for player numbers, I’m convinced it’s about AAA’s mostly switching over to the F2P (free to PAY/Pay to win) model (bleh), as EnB EMU isn’t the only project effected by falling numbers. I don’t think it’s about game economy or anything like that.
 16.
I've heard many times people say that helping the poor(or neighbors) should be up to churches and other non profits and not government. With as many people and families in difficult situations,
Well yeah, that’s why I mentioned "Or just to people who choose to help their neighbors, not forced to do so etc.". This is pretty much how many hospitals, shelters and drug rehab facilities have been started and funded in the U.S. In my area, we even have food centers where you can get boxes of food for dirt cheep (like 10% of the cost). I've hit hard times a number of times, I've never had to turn to government aid or their institutions to get past difficulties, nor do I want to since it is a far cry from the efficiency and quality of non-government centers. Still the point remains, be it social issues as this or things like internet regulation, the gov is just incapable of doing anything right. The founding fathers knew that too which is why they designed government to be very constrained. Take in point music piracy, which was far more common in years past, until private companies started offering music for purchase and download. Piracy of music was greatly curved, and the government efforts to try to regulate piracy back then in this case was left virtually worthless. We really, with out a doubt, do not need things like SOPA. The private sector will find a way to fix any real problems, as they have in the past and will do again.
 17.
Different Mouse. Hi, I'm Mouse, I'm new here, and check the Net7 patcher, I've set all the mice free from their cages!
No. Oh. No, noo. No no. You did not meet Zathras. You met Zathras. No, that was not Zathras, that was Zathras. There are 10 of us, all of family Zathras, each one named Zathras. Slight differences in how you pronounce. Zathraas, Zathras, Zathras.. You are seeing now?
Im British ! Not a European ! Actually im English, but even that is not PC ! SO.. Im English and British
Isn't like British in relation to the kingdom and English to the ethnicity? Something like that? We say English in the US but for ethnic English here (such as myself), and Brits for you chaps. They serve tea at the football games there? Tea and Ale, eh?
 18.
AA off : http://img841.images...reenshot01w.jpg AA on : http://img827.images...reenshot02n.jpg
It does seem to blur it. I mean the edges look a little better, but load the images into browser tabs, line them up and flip between them looking at the XP bars. It's really hard to notice the degradation (not counting the jpg format) because all the odd shapes and colors, but if you checked it with color adjustment graphs like are built into some monitors for fine tuning etc. the human eye tends to catch it more easily. So you see the difference more easily in the XP bar. Not that it's bad, I don't think it's bad enough to tire your eyes, but it's off and wouldn’t be acceptable (in development) if it wasn't a tweak under the circumstances.
 19.
C# on linux? I can just see the linux gurus pulling their beards in consternation in the uni refectory over that one.
hehehe yeah it was kinda meant to be a joke. But then again so is the .net framework on Linux, though it seems to be closer to usable.
 20.
http://dl.dropbox.co...71862/aaenb.png Here we have a screenshot of my JE and the nose of my JS. You can see that I do have antialiasing going on here.
I don't see that, I see jagged edges. Like such as in EVE, I can use either my Nvidia CP or game settings and get 16x with nice clean lines.
 21.
arrrghhh noooo, not talk of a C# client again!!!!
Welllll think of it this way, windows may not be able to run it in 5 or 10 years, but Linux probably will be able to lol Ode to the days of MUD programming in C. A lot of tool makers seem to like C# though which seems ok for that. Robust? C++
 22.
AA can be forced through your video cards Control panal. just set it to override the application.
I have and it doesn’t, as others have tried. Seems like the rendering engine actually needs to have the ability to use AA before it can be set externally with the (NVIDIA) CP as with some other CP tweaks. It just can be more efficient to control it with the CP in some cases rather than the app managing it seems to be. And yes, it would be aspect ratio, were as FOV is more sort of like a fish-eye effect to increase peripheral view. Neither are present.
 23. That's one of the two things I wish we could do with the client, but cant The other being AA. Nope, I use widescreen too, we're out of luck there.
 24. @Kyp It’s quite authoritive, it even resonates throughout scriptures in a number of places, such as the many mentions of the sluggard through proverbs. It’s not about finding no work, but refusing to work. It’s true that we should help our neighbor, yet that is my personal effort, or should be, and not law makers and tax code artists that take from one person to give to another. That’s not tithing or any such act of giving, maybe from giving out of someone’s else’s pocket they think? That is not giving or helping. It doesn’t profit anyone, because to give, or to help your neighbor in such a way, is something that is suppose to come from that helpful person, and from their heart, as many do. Being a cheerful giver is very good, but being forced to give is nothing. And unfortunately in the case of the government taking to give, much of the giving tends to be given to themselves, though often indirectly (buying votes etc.), so that the receiver has even less or something really that they didn’t even need or want. And really, this has to do with the Church, not government be it U.S or other. Or just to people who choose to help their neighbors, not forced to do so, because those that do choose to help have a heart for it, and so those in need will receive the best attention rather than a number for a place in line. SOPA is just another example of that, where the government steps in to try to help someone, or entities. But in doing so, they harm others, legitimate workers and even harming the freedoms we have with personal communications over the internet. There is a pattern there (this and previous paragraph), and it’s really about control. Buying votes is one thing they may do, but also consolidating more power for themselves through big government is a common occurrence and an ends to a means. Having power in such a way is quite corruptive, in that the government is led to not fear the people any longer. A well ordered and freedom loving government tends to fear the people, to do what we say collectively. What we say is pretty difficult to shout to DC at a distance, but we do well enough with our state and local governments which is where the majority of our laws and regulations should preside. DC has a place, but not what it has become and is becoming, or shall be if allowed to progress. Anything they touch tends to turn to lead and not gold, lead being the burdens set upon our backs. Hmm.. I have no real comment about the occupiers, it’s too loose with no real voice. The beginning of it was informative by some, but dwindled to something else as time went by imho. We say what we need to say, but then we act, we vote, we buy from someone or we choose to buy from others (vote with dollars too), not keep saying or protesting. Like locally to me, they tried to occupy/protest at a shipping port, but that damages productivity, harms working families. Aren’t they are neighbor too? don’t corporations have people with families as well? I would say they are our neighbors as well, our friends, our family, our countrymen. We are all in need of something, all in need of help, isn’t it better that we help one another with a full heart rather than turning to big government that ultimately seems to only be looking out for their own jobs and how much power their position controls? Small and unobtrusive government is really a wonderful thing, we did well with it here in the U.S. in the past, well enough.
 25.
It may be socialist to take care of your brother, but that's what the bible actually says, so ya know... at any rate, not devolving into politics here. Keep your eyes out for OPEN and be ready to stand against it. I think SOPA/PIPA in the original forms are properly dead, it'll take some real support (read: $$$) to make them live again.
If a man does not choose to work, neither shall he eat. Anyway, the house and senate shelved this to work out later. Later? Ron Paul 2012!
