  1. I also like the JT's play style better than the PT, not just her building capabilities.  The PT being able to build the Jenquai Only reactors, is likely balanced at least partially, by the JT being able to build the Progen Only reactors.  But neither can build the Restricted items of the opposite race.  I do wish that the JT was a better support character, but I find her fairly easy to play solo.  I do wonder why either character is allowed to build the other race's reactors, since having both traders, removes the need for that.   I agree on the PITA in leveling up build quality.  I'm not sure if the leveling up of that is per character, or per build within the character.  I'm hoping the former, because the latter would be more painful.  The main reason I spread it around, was so that my characters could be more versatile sooner.    I'm also hoping that at some point in the future, there are more prints that come as mission rewards, and some of those items be only obtainable by certain classes.  The Progen have Agrippa, I'm not sure but aren't  there are some prints that you cannot get as a non-Progen, even with an invite.  IMO that's a good thing, and I'd like to see the other races get their equivalent items.   Over time I think it's a good thing as it distinguishes the individual classes more, and gives players more things to do, if they wish to cover everything.
  2.   Yeah, but it also gives you the option to rebuild it, if it's quality gets dinged, beyond what you deem acceptable.  Granted it's not as rewarding as DIY from scratch.  Right now I have 2 L150 toons, a JE and a JT.   The JT has several overdings, the JE only a couple.   Right now I've got 3 characters with one or more maxed build skills.  I'll add my PT is a fourth.  It's just a matter of the pain of reaching TL45 on her.  Between the characters I have with max build skills, engines & Progen reactors aren't available yet.  JT, TT, and Scout, have maxed builds.  For now I'm leveling up engines on my JT with overdings, I'd originally planned to do that on my TW, but I've not really felt like playing him.  Eventually my Scout may take over engines from my JT if it becomes necessary to build Progen engines.  (I like my Scout better than my TW because she can mine, and he cannot.)    I'll have to use one character to farm mobs I'd not want to normally kill, most likely candidates for that are my PW or TW, since so far I'm not really that into those characters.  I'm in no rush to get them to 150, but it's necessary.   I haven't bought auctioned items, as of yet, but I wouldn't rule it out depending on the item.  I'd prefer to earn it through one of these future small guild raids instead.  IMO it's cheaper, and likely more fun, to complete the raid itself than to amass enough credits to win an auction.  I have bought some non-manufacturable items, like an EoFF for my JT as well as prototype L9 plasma beams.  Eventually, I intend to equip her better.  Would love to get the Made to Live and DG prints on her.
  3.   I'd agree that it would be tough, but to me any great print obtained is rewarding.  I would ultimately like to be able to build most of the things my characters need or want on my own, but I do think that I'm going to have to buy some things on Market.  If I have to get a looted item by buying it on market, I can live with that, since I still had to earn the credits to get it.  I do think, though, that if it's a truly rare or uber item, one is probably going to have to get the drop yourself.  (I suspect we'd be in agreement on that last sentence.)   One of the reasons I so look forward to the MCP is the Gaze of Amah beam, I intend to make one of those on my JE Terrell.  Maybe on my other JE Terrwyn too, but she's too small right now.   I do like that the Emerald Devastator, requires that the player who wishes to use it, loot the beam himself, analyze it himself, and build it himself.  I think a few items like that are a good thing, as it encourages people to build, for at least some of the items they want.  I've only ever held one of them, though I never built it.  The character that saw it floating in space, abandoned, in early ST4, was my JE (no trade).
  4. For defense against damage, if you can spare the slots, equip an Ivory Ward & a Tolerance.  That will cover all your deflects.  In addition the explorer classes have "animal skin" lines of devices to give you activated deflect buffs.  Most of the L9 beams you'll be able to use will drop from raids.  At least the plasma ones.  The Pitbull Sr. may drop outside of a raid, but not sure there.    When the Mars Construction Project comes along, assuming it's like EnB Origins, the Gaze of Amah is a reward that the JE can use.  6 second plasma beam, 40% turbo, and I think it also gets a beam damage buff.  In EnB Origins, a JE could build the Gaze of Amah, despite not having the Build Weapons skill.  The beam was no-trade, required a max build skill, and had steep requirements for the print.  You had to work for it, but it was a nice beam you could get from mining, though a lot of mining would be required to get it.   Between my characters I intend to be able to build many things, some of everything, but I don't restrict myself to only things I can build myself.
  5. Not sure on that one, would have to see what the fish's current resistances/vulnerabilities are set to (for tada-o and fishbowl).  Generally Plasma is the most popular type of damage to use overall, but if you're a Progen, you might want to bring along a Jenquai with a Chimaera, to debuff the mob so you'll get more damage out of your weapons.    Generally when I'm playing my JE I'll use plasma for fighting, on pretty much any mob (assuming he's not immune to plasma, or vulnerable to energy enough to make up for my lack of an energy debuffer).  The reason for this is that all Jenquai get the Chimaera line of devices, so unless you're a JT, you're almost always going to be better off going with Plasma (for Jenquai).  The JT also gets the Manticore line of debuffers, so energy is a more viable option for her compared to the JE and JW.  Both Chimaera & Manticore lines of debuffers run from L3-L9.  Chimaera is Jenquai Only, Manticore is Trader Only (PT and TT can use, but they generally don't use beams like the JT).    For fighting in general, when you do damage to a mob, look at the numbers from the damage.  If there's a + number after the damage number, then that mob is vulnerable to that type of damage & you are getting extra damage.  That mob may be vulnerable due to having been debuffed, have an inherent vulnerability to said damage type, or both.   If the damage number has a - number after it, then the mob is resistant to that type of damage, and you should try a debuffer (if possible) or a different type of damage to raise   Progen get debuffers to Chemical as a damage type, higher levels of Gravity Link (PW/PE) also have "hidden" (not listed in skill description) debuffs in them.   I think it's impact & explosive, @ L5+ but someone would have to verify that for me.
  6.   Gate raid, fishbowl don't unless they've been changed.  Controller, Blackbeard's Ghost do occur in gravity wells.   So warping would be doable in Tada-O or fishbowl, but not, except under previously mentioned circumstances, for BBG or Controller.    Bad rep with the community would likely deter people just grabbing the item floating in space, but said bad behavior is possible.  Looting rights, on the corpse, can be transferred as necessary, by existing commands.
  7.   I'm not sure where the cash goes in the auctions of loot from raids.  The ones I participated in in EnB Origins were lottoed.   Dividing up the loot relatively evenly also works for me.  The main thing is that in a successful raid all the participants get some reward for their effort.  (I was largely mentioning that in response to Shaddex's mention of public raid with auctionable items.  That assumes that he meant that the auctions were among the participants and you'd have to win an auction to get any reward for your work, rather than being auctioned on the market later, by whomever got the reward for their work.  Maybe I misunderstood him.)   Whether or not you can warp in a raid, depends on whether or not the raid occurs in a gravity well, and whether or not you have the necessary skill to beat said gravity well.  Navigate 7 offers 50% chance of warping in gravity well (JE and Terran Scout are only classes with Navigate 7)  If you're a member of those classes, with the appropriate skill you can sometimes warp in gravity wells (but not shear).   If you're not one of those two classes, JE or Scout, you would have to be in formation with them to get this benefit.   Null Factor 5 also allows warp in a gravity well or gravity shear, with 100% success rate, only the Terran Scout gets that skill.  Other characters must be in the same group and in formation with the Scout to benefit from Null Factor field, at any level.
  8. Does the random number generator in game work, like in EnB Origins?  If so then the loot could be lottoed.  IMO the fairest way to do it is that the person who provides the activation device (for raids that require them) gets to pick an item at the beginning of the raid, and say an alternate item should the desired item not drop.  Then all the other valuable loot, could be lottoed among all the players.  That way those who participate in the raid, but don't have the credits to win a bidding war, can still be rewarded for their efforts.  The looters in the raid hold on to all the tradeable items, and the lotto could be performed after the raid is over.  For the no-trade items, said lotto would have to occur before the corpse despawns.
  9. I've always spaced them, so far I've not found anyone that will take them either.  Not sure if it's intended to be of use in the future.
  10. Temporary mission specific devices, of several types.   Example: One of the factions give you a mission to smuggle an item from one location to another.  On the way there you have to avoid having the item detected by a particular other faction.  If the item is detected the mission fails, and you lose standing with the faction that detects your item.   You may pick the item up in space or at a starbase, but the NPC you must deliver to is in space in a particular sector, but you must find him.  The device shields your cargo.  The shielding of the contraband, works from a distance, but if the faction that doesn't want you smuggling the item gets too close they can either detect the shielding or see through it, either one would cause you to fail.  If you are successful you return to a specific member of the faction you were smuggling for, and return the device for your reward (Trade XP, Explore XP, and faction).  If you fail, the device is taken from you.   Such missions would be more likely to be from "rogue" factions,  but it's possible that "legitimate" factions would have such missions as well.  +5000 faction required to get such a mission.   Other missions could also have temporary devices to use to help accomplish the mission.  Said devices would be appropriate to the mission in question, and turned in upon successful completions, or lost on failure.

  12. Hmm, btw since I haven't formally expressed an opinion, I have no problem with the reworking of the Good Earth Trading Company's beams.  I'm holding out hope for them to have greater storyline importance than they did in the original game.  I do like how they do have influence in both Hyperia & Sharim.
  13. Oh and I think I was mistaken about the Pitbull's art remaining the same.  I had my JT make a Pitbull Jr. and it's different from what I remember.  I'm not sure on the Pitbull Sr. since I don't have that printed and haven't seen one since Live started.
  14. Can this topic please be stickied?  It's more recent than the old Hulks, What Now thread, and the information is more up to date.
  15.   In the patch notes many of the Good Earth Trading Company's beams have changed in their appearance.  Pitbull beams both Jr. and Sr. remain the same.
  16. For building a multi use version of the override device, rare by comparison, for the same level.  Instead of only one use, 2  to 5 uses.  May have to be in a device slot instead of the terminal slot.  Not sure there.   For a permanent device well into the future of the game:  JE Only wormhole recalibration device.  Allows wormholes to new destinations.  Said destinations aren't currently open yet, so this device should be delayed until then.  When the device is equipped the top 3 wormholes have different destinations than they normally have.  Said destinations would be in sectors currently not open, but would open later in the storyline.  If that's not doable, then some specific destination JE only devices.  Unlike the Tail Tucker, all group members within 1Km would be transported, just like a wormhole.
  17. That's where I disagree, if you can do the raid without the things the JE brings, why bring the JE?  Same for the other support classes.
  18.   Remember there needs to be unique things that each explorer brings so you don't make any one of the 3 explorers redundant.  The JE brings the best device selection, the PE brings the best firepower & is the toughest explorer, the Scout is the fastest explorer.  Each should have some unique things not carried by the other two.
  19. There wasn't a "prospect level lock" per se in the original game.  What could stop you from mining an ore entirely, was if the amount of energy required to prospect the ore in question, was greater than the amount of power in your reactor.  This would be more obvious in cases where a person has a low level reactor, prospect skill, and device tech (assuming they have a mining device), relative to the level of the rock.   It was possible under those circumstances, that the amount of energy required to extract one unit of resource from the resource node was greater than the maximum capacity of your reactor.  Increasing the level of prospect skill, decreased the amount of energy and time required to extract any given resource.   What prospect did lock, by level, is what you could refine.  In that respect it works the same as a build skill.
  20.   There's a prerequisite mission to be able to buy from her.  You must complete the mission to defend the Sundari weapons factory in Ishuan before she'll allow you to buy from her.  That mission comes in the form of a message when you're about to exit Ishuan at the System gate to Capella System.  I don't know if the message will come more than once for a character.
