MOB AI

Not sure if this has been suggested before but:

MOB's during live were retards, made in a time when that was acceptable and nobody knew better.

Can mobs be given a little bit more sense? Things like warping at kiters or fleeing from them if shields become too low is the sort of thing needed to get up to date.

Going as far as having mobs use the skills with some sense other than "activate within range" would also be nice. For example using menace on a JE is less smart than on a PW.

Just thought this would really flavour up the mobs compared to live.

Like most suggestions this one probably falls under the "in the distant future" category :P

in live quite some mobs were smart to use stuff like getting away not to get killed or some rds and gsps using self destruct when u didnt kill them fast enough...but then they need to remake selfdestruct the way it was in live...since now its a kinda useless skill...which only incapacitate u and therefor used as RTB.

how come whenever jenpies make a change this post... the changes always involve hurting some other class and making things better for themselves... its like given information...

"Why cant mobs? <insert terran nerf here> <insert go attack the progen there>"

Well on the bright side, at least it is in character for a jenpie to speak this way :P

Combat AI for mobile units is notoriously difficult to do, which is why there are whole books written about it.

Games like the "Total War" series which are all about small scale combat and individual unit AI are usually easy to defeat once you've worked out the strengths and weaknesses of the unit types and they have teams of AI coding specialists working full time for them. They're getting better, but that series has been going for over 10 years.

There are a few ideas for group tactics (which aren't original in any way I hasten to add), but you can't go bolting in 'cheating' behaviours like warping at the kiter or spamming skills at them. If all MOBs did this it'd just be annoying more than anything. On the flip side there shouldn't be one tactic that works for all MOBs either.

After the recent changes if the MOB has an aggro choice it'll go for the target with highest visibility, figuring that the higher the vis the more dangerous it must be. This is balanced with the MOB then going for the player who's inflicted the most damage, which should allow for stealthy JD's. If you're a JE support in a group it's unlikely (but not impossible) you'll be singled out now. Once the bravery mods go in there's no guarantee the weaker group mobs won't come after you though.

There's still a few more changes in the works, but the real fun is in adding individual or group 'weaknesses' in tactics to different MOBs so people can become experts in hunting certain types of MOB.

PS: Tienbau those changes look like the right mindset for mobs.

I am talking about that the last thing terrans need is a nerf to the ability to be able to kite...

Toss in some sugar, like a device that lets us kite from 15km away, so we have a few more shots as the mobs warp into us :P

By the same token, a mob spamming menace incessantly would suck for a PW...
