  1. lol. @Byakhee, I think it's ok for now.
  2. It will, it's the old Roland Holmes mission, but it requires me to have a full scripting language working and that's one of the last major systems we have to implement. Once it's in you'll see that mission and the reward of the Cygni Express. I put in the Cygni on the earlier mission as a teaser. and yes, it's the level 30 promotion bonus mission chain, as indicated by cpt.
  3. Actually no, I don't think it applies to all, but a lot of the starting missions should be working now. We found at least one problem.
  4. Many of the items you get from missions are such, but for one reason or another a new code push causes problems with old code and suddenly those mission items can be sold again (or traded or dropped, etc). In the end it happens, we want to fix it on a permanent basis but we're trying to re-work some things with missions at present. As for events, there should be some kind of announcement allowing people to be involved. If someone is handing out items to their friends and gets caught they are subject to disciplinary actions at any level of staff. For that matter, if they're caught handing out uber items to their own playing account we also will get miffed. There's no reason a GM (or any other member of staff) should cheat given the rules on items and helping other players. Staff commands are meant to be used for staff purposes on staff characters, the ONLY ones that should be crossing this line and using them on players are GMs who have a ticket about an issue (if the issue warrants interference) and Developers who are asking you to test something or show them something. We frequently have to look at detailed stats on your character to see what's happening. It is different if we all agree on it, because we can come up with something a little more balanced than a scavenger hunt that everyone will actually have a chance to complete.
  5. Yup, it was an accident guys. Apologies, it's up and ready to play.
  6. It is not a victim of anything. http://www.net-7.org/database/ The new one is awaiting us to get caught up with some fixes and have some time to take a look at it. We have some problems creating one at the moment due to some changes needed for mob skills. That's all I can say for now but it's gonna be a lil bit for a new schema.
  7. There's a registry file floating in one of these other 64 bit topics, it will correct the issue in the interim. Eventually we're going to set the Launcher to check for it.
  8. click Launcher > reset update, Launcher > Check for Update and let it repatch to the most current versions. Don't think that's being patched anymore.
  9. Er thanks, I think. The client is the sole property of EA, as long as we don't modify the client prior to releasing it to everyone, attempt to charge a subscription fee for playing, or sell the client as ours, we shouldn't be crossing any legal lines. They can always attempt legal action, even without a really good reason but it is unlikely unless they feel we're cutting into profits they could have.
  10. Bad OpCodes. Best bet is to make sure you've done recent maintenance, then try a restart of your PC if you still can't log in.
  11. And those people will probably end up on the GM Firing line. ;P
  12. Do a search for .NET 3.5 Download on google and you'll go right to the page. You do not need any earlier version to also be installed UNLESS you have upgraded from older versions rather than doing the full install or are a more advanced user that uses bootstrap installs. However, you must have .NET, if you did not our Launcher would crash upon attempting to open. You would never get to the point that you could even click play. I recommend instead making sure you're set to compatibility mode for xp if you're playing on Vista or running the EnBConfig utility, and running everything as administrator, this usually resolves this sort of problem.
  13. Well, this is true, but I mean to discourage the behavior to some extent. We can't code out elitism, and we have no intention of going to excessive lengths because that would ruin the game. There are lots of techniques in the game design world used to encourage positive player behavior, this is the kind of thing we'll do. It's a little more subtle but it works better than hard coded solutions, typically. As time goes on, we'll see what happens of course. In terms of the thread, I don't close them unless they seriously cross a line, otherwise I leave it to the folks who work the forums in the moderation staff and the forum administrator. Since the person posted a graphic, unless it's a modified picture (don't see any telltale signs of such) they displayed their own behavior as well. I imagine the community as a whole would avoid both
  14. We are technically UK based, the original founder and the funds we have are all in GB Pounds Sterling, but no we're not a non-profit, this is just a non-profit project. We may eventually move on to creating our own stuff and thus do not want to become a non-profit. You will not be eligible for any sort of tax exemption that I'm aware of by donating to us.
  15. Oh I'm simply going for the legal standpoint. I've had classes in Intellectual Property Law for my game design degr;) afterall We can add whatever we wish, and the other emus could too, they don't because of perceived issues and a lack of lawyers. All these companies usually care about is that you're not selling their creation, and that you're not charging a subscription fee that must be paid to play the game, at least insofar as the MMO emulators are concerned. Abandonment does not apply to the game client, they could leave it for 20 years and it will still be theirs because it will qualify under copyright as a work for hire for I believe it's 75 or 85 years. I'd have to take a look in my book to be sure on the number, I just know that it's different when a private individual creates a work because their copyright is good for their lifetime plus 70 years. Yes to number 1, number 2 is not really relevant. The key is that we can't distributed it in an initially changed format, where this is concerned. So in other words, we couldn't modify the client then provide the client to you guys, it's precisely the reason we don't distribute the game client:)urselves.
  16. If you're on a 64 bit system click cancel, then play (assuming you've registered your game account with us already at www.net-7.org) 64 bit systems must install a registry key that the client does not know how to deal with since 64 bit wasn't even really a dream at the time.
  17. Indeed, indeed. It is our desire to create enough content that there's no need for a killsteal to occur, but right now our prime focus is getting at least all of the live systems working (e.g. jobs, scripting for dynamic encounters and missions, etc). We've discussed adding some more raids and things so there's less reason for the drama to occur, much of the drama we saw on Andromeda was due to the only "end-game" stuff being the Tada-O gate and the Warder (prior to the fishbowl). We're trying to plan ways to make it easy for everyone but accordingly the loot may or may not be quite as high of drop rates to compensate. It really depends on the economy.
  18. To be fair in the days of Andramada (as floss put it), there were quite a few groups (including some from Static itself, though not to try and call them out, there were plenty of others) that would show up and just outgun people it would seem to just be an ass. I experienced it plenty because I was the only big gun in a small guild, I couldn't compete with more than two people then. In terms of Kill-Stealing, we're watching, and we're going to adjust it to make it nigh impossible. There are extremes to be sure, e.g. Final Fantasy online, the first person to attack a mob gets "claim" to the mob, and you cannot attack it unless they forfeit loot altogether by calling for help, and then there are the games that award it to the person with the killing blow. We'll find a happy medium that everyone can get along with eventually, even if that just ends up being a full return to the live system. I always felt E&B was rather fair in that whoever did 51% of the damage got it, but our GM staff is not likely to intervene unless it's a repetitive and harassing behavior. Keeping that in mind will help, it's really the HGMs decision on what is considered "fair play" in regards to kills and KSing as they are the ones who attempt to keep the community from being at each others throats. We certainly do not allow it, and if you do it excessively you'll earn a reputation, and it'll get you watched. Take from that what you will.
  19. FYI to the folks who don't have a legal background, adding to the client itself does not get us in any gray area or legal trouble. Adding it and distributing it as ours DOES. We would NEVER be able to change it enough that we could re-patent it (doubt it's patented in the first place, software patents are notoriously difficult to come by, as that which is to be patented has to be a novel idea and something that's not common. In other words, you can't patent a function to do simple addition, no matter how complex you made it look, because in the end its still simple addition) It's the same reason EA couldn't place a copyright on "Net 7" but they could on "Net 7 News". It's much more distinct and was a concept from the game. I hope that grants an idea. So, with the legal junk out of the way, yes we can add to it, that's a non-issue. We just can't alter the client and provide it in a different form then say its ours. The days of Atari and Tengen put that to an end.
  20. Net-7 Portal This portal is going to be what you're talking about, it just isn't quite there yet. We lost a lot of data from teh forums and guides when the server failed. We're taking care of that, but the whole idea for this site is a unified place for news, server information, and other data about setting up. The FAQ tab will show you how to install pretty much step by step. This is the droid you're looking for.
  21. We would have to build thousands of "pre-generated" sectors for it to "randomly" build a sector. We cannot generate them on the fly with the way the client itself works, it would have to be redesigned to handle such a thing. This is a pipe dream I'm afraid, but if you want to build and supply a working client, we'll get right on that.
  22. I'm reading it, I will add this much for now to get your ideas going. They are at least marginally affiliated with the GetCo Security forces. With that, come up with more names, I won't guarantee a change but I'll see if I like any of the ideas you come up with.
  23. To the person asking about what it would affect in terms of balance, I can answer that in one word: Economy.
  24. All you need from the old database is a schema update. We're looking at creating one. Keep your eyes on the announcements area for that.
  25. (Added a file that will fix, ONLY for 64-bit Operating Systems. - Kyp)
