1.
ok then my next question is this game in the exact state we were at in 0 hour at shut down?.., if so i have a full database of EVERYTHING there was in the game... if not whats changed/been added?
We're working our way toward where the game was when it was launched. Whatever info you have might be helpful for development purposes though. What kind of information do you have?
  2.
Hmmmmm. Now about that money....
D'oh! I didn't see that before! I should've held out...
  3. It was, now it isn't.
  4. Ok, I'm startin' her back up.
  5. Help has arrived. Sorry I didn't know about it sooner.
  6. I see the client itself is crashing... Would you be able to run a packet capture using Wireshark (not sure what your level of technical knowledge is)?
  7.
Cheers Cdel I'm still stuck in office might not make it today :/ sorry don't mean to leave a player in need hanging... But I got an issue here that just rose up I need to squash...
No problem. That's what I'm here for.
  8.
ok peeps.. got game to launch updated launcher etc etc... now getting error " did not complete registration" ill look around to see what ive done wrong but ive created both net7 and forum acounts so i should be good but i may be dumb or somethin
Activated your account for you. You're good to go. I'm off to bed now, so if you run into any more trouble, look in the FAQ/Common Fixes thread linked in my sig below.
  9. Make sure internet explorer is installed and make it your default web browser. The client is trying to open up the old web page that gave out demo keys (obviously now long defunct) and it's failing because back in the day they assumed internet explorer would be around (I'm not sure if it could even be uninstalled back then). When you set IE as your default browser, it should open up the old demo key web page. Close the internet explorer window that comes up and the installation should continue.
  10. Thanks for the report. We'll look into it.
  11.
Also the style of writing needs to be improved. Take the description of the TS sniper weapon - it sounds like something that Tada-O would write rather than Getco.
Ha, true. How does GetCo write? I never had a reason to use anything GetCo, cep'n maybe some travelin' engines.

I think the most famously complicated, or just long, Progen hull upgrade mission is the level 30 one, which is actually the mission that was present while the game was live. I'm fairly certain you can just pay for the rest of the upgrades if you're no fun.
  13. I'm really looking forward to seeing the profiler report on this! Call me a nerd, but nothing's more fun than looking at a bunch of numbers and charts about method execution time!
I take issue in the claim that there is no mission information out there
The information at the links you posted appears to be largely in line with what's in the game right now. This thread is getting kinda angry. It might be better for everyone to take a few slow deep breaths and put aside the personal stuff so we can talk about the real issues. Unfortunately, that also means taking "no" as an answer. I know it's frustrating to get that answer to something you steadfastly believe in, but that's going to happen sometimes. Despite being on staff, I don't get any preference when it comes to content - I can make suggestions like players, but I also have to defer to the content developers when it comes to decision-making just the same. I just happen to agree with Kyp on this issue. Of course, I have respect for him, and all the developers, but I've been around for a little over two years now, and I don't feel I need to worry about rocking the boat if I disagree. I wouldn't take the time to back him up if I didn't wholeheartedly agree. It has more to do with the fact that I enjoy Byakhee's work - even if that seems crazy.
  15. It doesn't seem to be on the server's end. I went there myself and talked with a few other players who had gone there today as well. Have you tried Packet Optimization and/or Prototype Reordering in the launcher? They might help you if too much data is coming in and is getting clogged up in the internet tubes.
  16.
This isn't a fix, merely a potential circumvention, but try using the Character & Starship Creator to create your character *offline* and then login and select the new char to complete the process.
That's a good idea. I'm not sure why character creation is failing for you, though. Try running through it as quickly as possible, as a test. Back in the day, we used to have trouble with people getting kicked out after character creation is they took too long.
  17. Sorry. We're stuck with what we've got. =\ The problem isn't inherently the server - the code isn't running efficiently enough. We're working on fixing it up now.
Sorry, gotta stand counterpoint to this. Byakhee's mission in no way shape or form affect the stability of the server (no matter how crazy they may be). At best they are irritating to complete because of something you didn't read or do. That's not game breaking, and based on what I've seen of his missions, none of the really complex ones are now required to get hull upgrades. We made this much a mandate for him and he has done an admirable job of fixing them so they weren't interlinked. With all this said, I want to just say this, there will be no flame war here, it won't be tolerated. If you have something to add and support, do so, if a flame war gets started the post will close along with any subsequent posts that attempt to prolong said war.
I agree with Kyp on this. No server coding time has been spent to facilitate any single developer's pursuits. Whatever code that was prompted to be written or fixed by Byakhee's missions was already planned or overdue. Also, I really like Byakhee's missions. Everyone always thinks I'm crazy for saying that, but it's true. I find them interesting and involving. They actually make me feel like I'm in a storyline, instead of just clicking buttons on some screen playing a game emulator.
  19. Your past account may no longer exist. If you've been inactive since before December of 2009, it would have been lost in the server crash around that time. Also, in order to register at net-7.org, you need to create a forum account here first.
  20. Ha. This is a really difficult thing to pin down, but I feel like early 2013 is not a bad estimate. Of course, people probably thought we'd be done by now a few years back. It could always go more slowly or more quickly based on the state of the community, developers joining and/or leaving the team, and unexpected circumstances such as hardware failures and the like. We should be calling this shindig an Alpha pretty soon, which is a big milestone in the endless trudge toward completion. Our main concern has been server code up to this point. After we switch to the alpha stage of development, we should be able to start really picking up on real, live-grade content development, and I think the pace of development will seem much faster then. Of course, I can't speak for the content guys, so I could be wrong, but that's what I'm hoping. The bottom line is: I think 2013 is a good goal for us to be at a "live" or live-like state.
  21.
hi. i played this game a few months before it was canceled. really liked it and am trying to install. but im having issues after i get net7 installed. maybe im not installing in in the right area? i never see a config button or a run button. just get a screen when trying to open net7 saying version cannot be determined. ive been trying since last night! can anyone help
It should have a button that says "Update" or something of the like. Click that. If that's not an option, please take a screenshot so we can better understand the situation.
  22.
I have found this most often occurs when the launcher is unable to update the authlogin.dll file in the client directory. This is especially a problem on Vista and Windows 7, although some firewalls will try to stop file modification. I think we should post up a standard set of login files, already pointing at sunrise, for people to manually update with if required. I would not recommend resorting to local-cert as you could be setting yourself up for problems further down the track.
Is AuthLogin.dll patched with the regular client files? If it weren't updated, the launcher should give an error and prevent the player from patching and, therefore, launching the game. Indeed I only recommend Local Cert as a stop-gap measure to get people in-game when they can't any other way. I'll try the AuthLogin solution first from now on.
  23. Try connecting to "play.net-7.org" if you're not already. If that doesn't help, try using "Local Cert". If that doesn't help, show me the readout of net7proxy.exe.
  24. It would be cool, but at the same time it would make balancing items practically impossible.
