  1. First, I commend you for knowing your crying As for End Game content, I can't imagine anyone complaining about such a thing when we haven't even started yet. What you see, from beginning to what is not the end is all in flux, constantly being tweaked and prodded at every level.Content added and bugs fixed throughout and with no obvious methodology, to you anyway. What is today will not be tomorrow and will likely change the day after that. The priorities of the Dev team are their own and while I cannot begin to understand it, it isn't mine to decide and the game continues to move forward over all so I'm not going to worry about it. The only constant in life is change.
  2. As an Administrator and as a Senior Deputy Game Master, (yeah, I know, its a long title for a little job ), I can assure you the GMs on this project as well as any staff members engaged in activities on the Play Server do not "Give Out Items to Their Friends" or anyone else without reason. Any caught doing so are stripped of their positions at least as far as the Play Server goes. GMs do have limited abilities to distribute certain items only if the situation warrants and the proper research is done to insure its necessity. As a Project Team, the sub-team of GMs is under strict guidelines of what and how we are allowed to react to certain circumstances. I know certain things that were allowed on the live game are not allowed here but they are very few and in place to provide a family safe environment where players can enjoy the game without harassment. If you are approached by a GM for an infraction, they will tell you why but whether or not you agree is a different issue and is an appeal-able process by opening a ticket via either the in-game help system or a post in the GM Support Forum. Such appeals will be reviewed by myself or a Head Game Master and any appropriate actions taken will come from them. On a personal note, I have found that most folks who feel the need to post derogatory posts about any of our staff, be they GMs or any other members of the team are simply upset because they didn't get there way. The play experience of everyone who chooses to play on the Earth and Beyond Emulator is of great concern to the entire staff. If it were otherwise there would be little point in pursuing such a difficult project. We do what we do out of love for the game and to help give something back to those who enjoy it as well. I've said it before and I'll say it again, we are testing for gosh sakes, to expect perfection or even worse demand it is ludicrous and those with that attitude might be better off waiting to play until we get things more fine tuned.
  3. Na, Win 7 is fine, you just have to be prepared to deal with the things that crop up with any OS upgrade. The bigger issue is a user community that only knows what came in the box and don't understand how to work beyond what they got. This isn't a criticism toward those folks. It is just how it is. Being a tech support guy, it keeps me working, provides jobs and if in the process of getting them working they learn something new, all the better. After all, "Its the Clueless that keep us in business." Not that I'm a Microsoft fanboi or anything like that, but at least they had the forethought to allow us to run older software in XP and other product modes. they could have just as easily said screw you all and left us hanging in the wind. See, even the big boys learn a thing or two on occasion. IMHO of course.
  4. Not a bad idea at all. I'll see what I can do when time permits. Hopefully soon.
  5. Hi folks, things seem to be heating up a bit more than needed to have a civil debate. By all means, continue your debate but keep it civil as I would hate to have to bring it to an end. Just a heads up
  6. /official on - When creating your polls, please think them through. If you only have two answers to choose from then you need to consider hard whether or not a maybe might be an appropriate response. Rarely is anything as cut and dry as a simple yes or no as in this case. I don't mean to pick on this poll, it's just the one that broke the back so to speak. - /official off As for myself, I can't vote because it'd be maybe but I would have to know more about their intentions on further development of the game. For the time being, as far as I know, EA isn't really much interested in MMOs. Their focus is Console games with PC titles to go with those mostly as an aside. ie.. EA Sports games However, with fluctuating changes in the economy and the gaming industry, who's to say they might not gravitate moving toward MMOs as a viable source of lost income as kids begin to find their jobs taken by us older folks or their parents less likely to shell out 50 bucks for a game. They might find it an easy out in to revitalize an MMO like this. Tack on some new content, pretty it up just a little, tack micro transactions onto it and off they go with Earth and Beyond 2 - Vengeance of Man. You can't tell me you wouldn't want take a peek. I know I would if for no other reason than just to see.
  7. I imagine your just trying to be cute since the structure of your alien talk shows you can obviously speak english. Save your role play for the game, your confusing the masses and Lord knows we're all confused enough.
  8. As for prospecting for all classes, never going to happen, the skill is meant to be only held by a couple, ok, now a few. As for the AH idea, on Peggy I remember auctions being held all the time on private channels by individual players. They'd simply announce the auction on the market channel with the channel # and those interested would participate in a live auction. These were much more fun than the AH idea since folks were bidding live and ragging each other in the chat, all respectfully of course. In the end, sometimes you got a deal, others it might get pricey. The concept also left allowances for individual flexibility like starting bids and other factors. Another time we used auctions on Peggy that I personally enjoyed was loot distribution for public raids. We'd auction for known potential drops of the good stuff once we locked in the groups which would attend, then gather the funds as items were looted. Someone from the hosting group would manage the collection of all the extra stuff used in crafting or had any value and action it after the raid was finished. At the end of the raid and auctions, proceeds were gathered and split between all attendee groups equally. While it did tend to take quite a while to complete the process, everyone involved had the chance to pull in some good profit. On a bad day you would pull about 15 mil but a good day might net 35 mil or much more. It really depended on how many participated, how badly they wanted things and how much over all was available to spend. Some will like this idea, others wont. I've heard all the arguments from both sides and both sides have merit for the opposing reason. However, Since it should be up to the group hosting the raid, be it a guild or a couple of guys who just want to try it, it should be left to them to decide the distribution methods. If its not your style, don't participate. In any case, the flexibility of communications in Earth and Beyond mixed with the entrepreneurial efforts of the people who played negated the need for a structured AH. Then again, there will always be the forums, assuming we can get them to work efficiently enough to do it. They're already available in a very limited and buggy condition in the news terminals on the stations. I haven't fully explored how much works just yet but it gives me hope.
  9. As both a Forum Admin and a Deputy Game Master who deals with reports from both sides quite a bit I will add my 1 1/2 cents. ( I donated the other half cent, I'd have given it all but a guys gotta eat ya know. ) Pretty much anything anyone finds annoying is usually against the rules in any MMO you might play. Enforcement, on the other hand, tends to vary widely. However, we who maintain the peace in the Earth and Beyond Emulator place the pleasure of our general population very seriously. This is why we take action on what some think are silly things like language and potential botting or macro usage. These activities are simply not allowed and if we hear of it it gets investigated. If we find it to be fact we are not going to swing the ban hammer the first time unless we are forced to do so and those who have faced our justice can attest to this. Just because you get reported doesn't mean you are automatically guilty or that you should get all defensive about it. If a GM, or more likely a DGM or HGM approaches you about it, tell em your side and it will be weighed equally against the report. Usually, unless there has been a pattern of infractions, and we know who they are as well as they do, it will likely end there, no harm, no foul. Venting on the forums doesn't help matters because now everyone knows about the circumstances and regardless of our judgment will judge you on your rant which rarely turns out well. These are the things folks remember. This is when folks say, "I saw it in the forums... So & So did this or that" and it is documented for all to see until it fades into forum oblivion. That can take from an hour to weeks or longer. The best advice I can give is to not break the rules, and I'm not saying the poster did or did not, I'm not familiar with the specific case. I mean this in regard to anyone who plays, tests, hangs out or whatever else they might have to do with the game. We don't have many and the rules we do have are designed to keep the community family safe. I know of several children at least that play and they do not need to be subjected to certain things. Macros and botts upset our currently non-existent game economy and while not that important now, it surely will be when we go live. Also do not jump to conclusions about things you see going on in the game. Everyone lets a word slip now and again, everyone steps away from the keyboard for a few for many reasons. Unless you see this become a habit for a given player, just let it go. It it comes to that, then report it and let us do our jobs. As for whether or not we will go into live with the roid field clearing bonus, there is a Suggestion forum you can use for that. Make sure when you make your suggestions that you state your reasons clearly along with any alternative ideas you may have. While I agree our Dev Team and Support Staff do an awesome job, we've hardly thought of every possibility.
  10. I talk to myself all the time so it bothers me little, but what does bother me is the number of folks who tell me don't use the forums because of bad experiences on other forums. In any case, its here for those who want to use it, and there's things in the background no one sees going on because the team uses it. As it stands now, and I admit I'm not sure when how or why this started working, you can pull it up at the news terminals in stations with many limitations. You can't log in so only get guest access, but I'm pretty sure you can browse some stuff. I plan on seeing how I can put this to good use. Maybe then folks will have more of an interest. Imagine being able to post items for sale and order ores and components via the terminal. Might be handy then. We can only hope.
  11. I can assure you the left over donations are not being misused. The forum app that allows the tracking of donations works as it does, a factor which we have no control over. At the end of the month, it resets to $0.00 and starts recording from there. Is it an accurate indication of how much is building up or available? No it isn't. The app also does not track what it was spent on. Is transparency and documentation of expenditures a concern for us? Of course it is and it is being addressed as we speak already. Exactly how I cannot address because I do not have that information. As in every business, profit or non-profit, there are fixed and unforeseen expenses. To my understanding, and if I am wrong you can be sure a more informed team member will likely correct me, the goal represents what we know our fixed expenses to be. The balance left over is used to fund the unforeseen expenses like software purchases and other tools required to develop the game. Beyond that, your donations are NOT distributed as compensation to anyone on the team or in any other manner that would be considered inappropriate to my knowledge. I realize you were not trying to say you believed that to be the case, I just like to make it clear to everyone. As for the list of donors and how much, I will look into seeing what can be done if anything. I can't make any promises as to what will or will not be done. Thanks for your patience and for continuing to play the Earth and Beyond Emulator
  12. I will admit up front, my answers here will be pretty vague since there is very little project data available to answer a very broad question. Be assured I am taking your question seriously and giving a guess based on at least a limited sense of the variables that affect the amount of time it takes to develop what you suggest, having worked in the industry, albeit from a QA standpoint, and watching games develop closely since at least the late 90s. Lets look at a few variables first since we need to have some kind of template to work from. First of all, it will need to be done pretty much from scratch. Even if EA were to work out a deal on the copyright I doubt they will give up the engine, though they might and even then it will likely require a lot of work to bring it up to today's gaming standards. Thats not to say such a project couldn't be done under a different title with similar dynamics in gameplay which might save a good deal of time that would be eaten up in negotiations. Next, the scope of the project would need to be defined to get a better idea how the game is to be presented and what expectations there are in regard to what it will look like, what engine will be used, will it be built from scratch or based off of an existing engine. This can have a fairly significant impact on time. Next is staffing. We won't have a clue what the staffing needs are until there is a design document in place outlining for one the above along with the storyline, assets needed and such things as that. If we used well experienced designers that cost more, we might see a dramatic reduction in production time as opposed to using less experienced and less expensive designers. In any case, to do it right your looking at from probably 16 to 25 developers if you want to get it off the ground in a reasonable amount of time, maybe more. This doesn't even get into staff for testing and marketing or administration. Of course there is much more to think about than I could even begin to get into here, and as I am fairly sure I'm exceeding the scope of detail you were looking for, I can safely say that a top notch game will take 2-4 years to put together properly assuming the time is taken to put together a quality team working full time on the project. That's from the first brainstorming session to putting the box on the shelf. As for being interested in working on the project, I'd be crazy not to want to. I'm a huge EnB fan and would love to see such a thing happen. While I'm not a developer or a designer I'm sure I can be useful in a myriad of other ways.
  13. It sounds like you may have missed a mission somewhere. Call out for a GM ingame and if you can't find one open a ticket with the GM team via the ingame help. They can get you moving in the right direction. You won't be able to skip the level 10 upgrade, but once you get it you should be able to move right into the level 30 upgrade mission sequence. The reason you moved to level 30 so quickly is we have xp jacked up to 3 times for testing purposes since the occasional player wipes and issues can make things a little frustrating.
  14. Hi likwidtek! Welcome to the EnB Emulator Project. You are absolutely right about the site and this is in the works. Most of the focus of the project until very recently has been on getting the game working, but we are becoming more focused on developing the frills for our user base. We'd had a much more extensive forum but it was lost in a catastrophic hardware failure recently and we are in the process of rebuilding it which is what you see today. I'll look into the downloads for guests issue, it wasn't intended to be that way when I set it up. There are so many things to consider when evaluating needs and setting it up. This version of the forum is very new and I'm still doing a lot of setting up. As for the website, there is some work being done in that regard as well along with some utility databases for items and crafting. All of these elements take time unfortunately and as volunteers we give as much as we are able but with patience we shall persevere. Thank you for your critique and your suggestions however, we appreciate any input our community wishes to share with us. I hope to see you in the game, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised to see how far our Development Team has come in getting it running again.
