Jeez ... but ... how awesome?? 30 mins isn't really enough time though ... 8000ft, if it runs out of power up there, that's a lot of money to loose, assuming you wear a parachute ... although you might be able to do an auto-rotate emergency landing thing like with helicopters when they lose power. Tyran
Shame it is not man-portable
Tyran
PS: that thing will not auto-rotate like a heli, but will drop like a brick instead because the rotor area is too small.
Tienbau
Shame it is not man-portable
maybe it has a trolley that's man-pushable? Still for 15-20 mins a go with the rest as landing time it would be fun Just don't fly into a power line if you're going for a low altitude run ... Kyp [LDEV]
http://twistedsifter.com/2010/03/martin-personal-jetpack/ Some more details. Specifically this: What happens if the engine stops? The Martin Jetpack is equipped with a ballistic parachute. If something untoward happens, the pilot pulls a toggle and a small propellant (similar to one used in a car airbag) is fired rapidly deploying a parachute. The pilot, Jetpack and parachute descend as one. The use of ballistic parachutes is now quite common in general aviation; for example, they are standard equipment in the Cirrus series of single engine aircraft.
Tienbau
there you go then I guess you'd have to get the parachute re-packed and primed but at least you wouldn't lose your jetpack. Unless you landed in the sea or in a jungle full of cannibals or giant spiders (or both ).
