Scientist's Data Cube

The Scientist's Data Cube is a level nine device.

It has a single effect: Improved Build Reactors (Equip).

This device existed during the live period of Earth and Beyond. And during the live period only the Jenquai explorer profession could build reactors -- there were no Progen reactor builders during live.

My suggestion is a simple one: please adjust the level of this device from nine down to eight. This would allow the device to be used by all professions that can build reactors in the emulator i.e. Jenquai explorer, Jenquai seeker (they are limited to device tech eight and cannot use level nine devices) and Progen privateer.

When this device was created in live the author probably just made it a level nine device because only a Jenquai explorer could build reactors and they could use device tech level nine. No other consideration was a factor in this decision as the other two reactor building professions never entered live.

Ego Matrix, ID Matrix, Pit Mechanic's Toolbox, Drone Controller Shield PROM -- are all level eight devices.

Just use a Specialist Build Computer (SBC) for reactors I hear you say.

The SBC's offer a lesser skill increase compared with the Scientist's Data Cube. And that argument also differentiates in favor of the explorers in preference to seekers and privateers -- why should one profession be able to build better reactors than the other two? All three professions are entitled to build the best reactors that they can and have the same equal opportunity to use the Scientist's Data Cube.

In the case of the JT I would rather see her Device tech raised to L9, & her engine tech lowered to L8. In my opinion the SS8 is the best engine choice for the JT. I could see putting an intent of the resolute on the JT which would make her faster, but I don't think I want to give up those buffs of Sheld Renewal, Reactor Renewal, Device energy conservation, and Increase Maneuverability with a sig of 0.0.

How about for the PT, they get the buff on a different device, perhaps one with an additional useful to a PT buff. (or even on a different type of equipment. Said item could be Progen Only, Trader Only.

I agree with the original premise of lowing the SDC. Of the 3 reactor builders only the JE can use lvl 9devices.

I do not agree that the JS should get lvl9 devices and lvl8 engines, it is a trader class and time is money.I also don't agree that the SS8 is the best engine for a Jen. Sig reducing engines (I.e.Trifid) are superior in lowering sig and comparable in other performance areas. Also the device energy conservation doesn't work.

IMO the Trifid line of engines are actually better for Terrans than Jenquai. A Terran with a Trifid (Halley/Mercurius for lower levels) gets their sig below their base sig, not the case with Jenquai. A JT with a L8 Trifid and no other sig buffs would have a sig of 0.7, if she swaps it out for an SS8 her sig is 0.5. If she has a SS8 and a GoD she can get her sig down to 0.1 or 0.0 without needing an activate reduce sig buff. (This is also true for the JE and JW)

A level eight device is usable by any of the three reactor building professions.

Reducing the level from 9 to 8 on the SDC is a no-brainer.
