  1. What does the speculation cover in particular? That would help in giving you an "official" answer.
  2. Currently no, but something like this would be one way to enforce it.
  3. I felt the need to address these two statements, Floss. 1) Trade Runs won't always be this way, albeit they may for now. SD we've heard mixed reports on how it worked and have little hard documentation on that one skill. 2) Actually the question is "How does this make the game more fun?" at least this is what I've been told whilst pursuing my degree but with that in mind, what was in live is the initial state, thus the one we restore before we look at ways to make it better and all documentation points towards Auto-registration being the way it worked, despite what people remember. Human memory can be a very foggy thing indeed. There are also screenshots showing players docking and seeing messages like "CONTROL: Registration Accepted" in the system window. If proof can be provided otherwise we certainly encourage players to come forth with it, but what we have says otherwise.
  4. We don't want it to happen, but would have no way to enforce it unless we caught someone doing it.
  5. RE: Soloing the Gate Now I know for a fact (as I used to solo the outside tada o gate) they eventually nerfed that behavior and gave all the gate guardians extreme scan range beyond the range of any Terran missile. It was that way at first, but later on this behavior was stopped because of complaints. The damage multipliers inside the fishbowl will probably be adjusted eventually to more accurately be like live when we can do much more complex mob AI.
  6. From a big picture view: Implementing a scripting system so we can make more dynamic missions and encounters (read: RAIDS) and then we have to go through the balance passes on everything to make it all fun and not let one class be super-powered (y'know, the fun part that everyone loves!). Kyp
  7. This is not a problem because as David says, we're not claiming copyright over anything they did and because we are not distributing the game client or selling it.
  8. Because it isn't required by the license and it gives you a reason to play our server. Open source requires that we provide you the code and data necessary to make the project run, and that's what we will do. Now, after it's been available for several months on our server, we do plan on releasing such data, but those story publishes will be held back for a time to ensure players have had a chance to experience it on THIS server. If the private shard/server wants to make their own, they can do so, otherwise they will have to grab it when it's made available.
  9. Notice the Whistleblower policy in the Code of Conduct? That applies to everyone on the project, regardless of position. They cannot visit any form of retribution upon any player that comes forward with such proof. If a Board Member tried something like that it would be a removal from the Board and very possibly the project depending on what they had done.
  10. The last time this area was adjusted was prior to the addition of mob skills.
  11. They couldn't really do this without changing every item in the game of that type. There's no commands for anything like that. In regards to what you said Azasha, absolutely. We'll be happy to look into this sort of thing happening. It had best not be because it's a violation. The staff position is one of respect but only if you do your part and act as a staff member. If that staff member is doing things for a friend, they're going to end up in hot water. For example, were it someone on the Terran team, I wouldn't even wait, if I could prove it they would be outta here faster than you could cross Luna with a warp speed of 30k.
  12. We're open to suggestions, but it does address a gameplay problem. You shouldn't be able to cross from one side of the galaxy to the other with a load of trade goods for example, at least not instantly. For the economy to eventually get balanced we have to remove quick and easy gains of money. We want credits to be somewhat valuable and try to prevent the live situation where people have 900 billion credits to throw around. This particular one wouldn't be a big deal if every class had a means of getting around this way, but since it's just self destruct it allows them to jump back to a base. Now, I seem to recall Self-destruct did work a little bit differently than its current implementation. Something along the lines of all of your equipment going offline, doing damage, and being dropped to like half hull. I didn't play a PW though, I just had a friend who did. Does anyone remember it working this way aside from me? I have no readily available document showing this though.
  13. To all in the topic, RE: Auto Registration at a starbase: Prima Guide See the bottom of page 302 "What happens after I'm incapacitated?" and read-on. This is in addition to CraZboy's website as posted in the second post on this topic which was a direct rip of the live website from EA with some fansite add-ons after the game went down.
  14. Should be fixed up now.
  15. Nothing, it's technically open source, the agreement specifies HOW you can use our work, nothing more. Check out the header in a source file, and read the associated links. We're not going to pursue anyone that wants to try. All content though will have to be recreated as it is not provided for private shard/servers.
  16. I think it was related to bandwidth and to help reduce lag, but I will ask about it.
  17. What e-mail address did you use? What was the user name?
  18. Do you mean it appearing to only show the graphic once now as opposed to a small cloud?
  19. White: If you're running in windowed mode that's why your client crashes. We haven't quite figured that whole bit out to be honest, most of us play in full screen unless we're working in and out of game. To be fair you're right, but at the same time the structures that we have now only got properly formed about half a year ago. (In other words the dev staff elected the Board of directors and we established the reporting chains) This is understandable. Report it to me or anyone on the board, or the people listed on the ethics committee. The investigation will commence. We do have a log every single time a staff member creates an item down to the IP address, so we CAN find them, if we can determine when it was.
  20. EA owns clients, assets, and name. All code is capable of being copywritten by the project because the project created it from character number 1. We don't claim copyright over anything EA created. Copyright requires that you say "I have a copyright" and it be an intellectual work. Trademarking and Servicemarking, as well as patenting on the other require registration with (in the US) the US Patent and Trade Office (USPTO) The license is Creative Commons. Kyp
  21. I'll look into this one.
  22. 1) There's not much else that goes on down there, security, story, and content. 2) No no, I didn't I just didn't finish the thought I had there. Looked at the next point and continued on. Was trying to say people use it instead of the forums because some don't like to type much when it comes to the forum. We by no means espouse communications on TS only, it's just the way it seems to happen from time to time because we get busy and want to work and don't think to make posts. 3) possibly "assimilated", "accumulated", or "compiled"? 4) /nod 7)We do have a plan, and a direction/goal. So yes, we just don't want anyone's feelings hurt or upset when we start balancing. We know it'll happen anyway, because the game will become more of a challenge. It's expected, but so long as the comments are constructive, we're happy! 8)That may be, but the idea is we don't think most of the community DOES want to see it. We could be wrong, and if we are then the community can tell us as such as a whole. Looked at from another perspective, you think you'd see that on a professional project? 10) That may be, but it won't be surprise and exciting if we don't keep it under wraps, will it? 11) A respective lead must be made aware for the problem to be fixed, if it exists. We've fixed this sort of thing before when we found out about it. It's already in the code of conduct for just those reasons. 12) Give me some specifics of what you think is badly written in it, if you wouldn't mind. It's designed to be open, every code of conduct for any company I've worked for is written in much the same manner. The contacts I can do, any team lead for an individual reporting to them to start with, if it isn't handled there then report it to the ethics committee or us on the board. It will be dealt with. Poor people skills in some case I'd grant, but in every case it's been someone upset with something and not approaching the team with the grievance. The structures of teams and the board are relatively new overall, in terms of this project's lifecycle, but they were necessary. With structural changes comes growing pains. We've not forgotten our goal and we've not forgotten that communication is important, this past year has just been very much us rushing to do new things and not thinking about clarifying. I mean it's all in the SVN, right? You'll see some changes here soon in regards to that as mentioned in the communication post I made. We won't see this fail, we've worked too long on it for that to occur. It will be reaching a live state. Many developers have come and gone, and the project remains.
  23. What version is your Net-7 Proxy (lil black window, also, probably more people would reply to an issue like this in the Tech Support forum. Save ya a lil time )
  24. When Marco returned he had the exact same rights set as any of you do. Do you receive errors replying to PMs? If so, it's not something we've known about. They seem to work fine. Inactive Devs (the user group) have the user level mask of rights.
  25. If the gates let you through, you're allowed in We've actually deactivated the faction on these gates because of this issue (see the Server Updates section above). The issue with faction is something we're analyzing to try to find the exact cause so we can right it once and for all.
