1.
Can loot be randomly assigned when grouped? Full group -> kill mob -> open hulk -> only loot assigned to you is highlighted, thus lootable * There may need to be maximum range for this. * You may need a method to easily assign your own loot to a specific player in the group, or free it for anyone to take. * Make it an option that loot can be randomly assigned While this is a long shot suggestion, it does add a certain 'fairness'. Also, loot whoring and the bitching that ensues can be avoided. When you loot something valuable while grouped it is yours because you got it, not because your team allowed you to have it. It also removes the need for a lotto within a group when they loot say a plague's bite. Basically, this suggestion is to avoid the sh!tstorm called fastest finger first...
If loot stealing is a problem in the group, doesn't sound like a very nice group to be with. Sounds like they all deserve each other.
  2.
I'm having the same problem, The client tries to log on but it stops at sending logon & then shuts off after getting a message about MVAS thread is running.
Yes, getting similar results here as well.

    /command
This falls under the category of good ideas we keep forgetting to put in. It also seems like something I could handle. As soon as I have time, I'll take a loot at it. I'm backed up with tons of stuff to do atm.
Don't forget to add the /slash command, which lists all the commands one can do with the / command prefix.
  5.
If you feel warriors are getting a raw deal, please feel free to make a proposal that might improve the situation. Nothing says we can only consider ideas on one front at a time. A fair question.

Interaction between players is good.
Other than a handful of ammo-related ores, miners and component builders don't interact much. For a healthy and dynamic economy, one might expect a food chain of ore providers -> component builders -> item builders -> item users (everyone). (Not unlike the real world: mined iron ore -> bulk steel -> auto chassis -> finished car -> consumers.)
One reason for this lack of interaction is that ripped or vendor-purchased ores are every bit as good as mined ores.
Hence a proposal to make miner-provided ores provide an extra bonus, increasing demand (i.e. a reason to interact) without creating an annoying absolute dependency.
Now, given that components and ammo are always 200%, I'm not sure what that bonus should be. But there are some ideas being kicked around in this thread.
No, I don't think anyone is getting a raw deal - was merely pointing out the *substantial* opportunity for XP gain that is provided to miners regardless of whether the ore/gas mined is in demand. The demand aspect of it would only affect the miner's ability to increase profit - and I'm not seeing, in the game's current state, that lack of credits is a big problem. Apologies for not using the quote structure better here as with the list tags I'm afraid I'd mung it up, but as to your points: 1) Agreed, interaction is good 2) Agreed, a healthy supply chain that involves all chartypes is good. Although, as has been mentioned upthread, I believe the interaction between miners and builders happens a lot more than you might think. It's just that those interactions aren't predominantly taking place via market channel but via Guild chat or other arranged relationships. 3) Agree somewhat, but see (2) - there is interaction just more private vs public 4) I don't really see this affecting the interaction model. The same model will continue, just with additional bonus to the builder. As I'm a builder, miner, and Guild member I'll still have the same access as I did before - just with shinier builds. What's changed?
  6.
I'm pretty sure that most people that mine these ores, do so because either they need them, or a guildmate/friend needs them. The dozen or so other ore types you collect while mining those, however, no one wants to pay for, hence, so they pile up or get vendored. A market where a select few resources are in demand, and every other resource is mostly ignored, is a prime example of a bad market. I've said it before, and i'll keep saying it. the biggest problem with mining in EnB is there are too many ore types. The game would be greatly improved, imho, if the number of different ores was reduced by 1/3 to 1/2 at each level.
Ores aren't unique in this respect. Most loot that is dropped via combat also has little/no demand. So players sell those items to NPC's. NPC's aren't refusing to buy the "unwanted" ores. In fact the mining characters have the opportunity for a double (triple, really) XP bonus as they trade the raw ores to a player who then trades them back - miner gains XP. Miner then takes those ores and refines them - and gains XP. Miner then either directly sells "unwanted" refined ores to NPC or trades them to another player - in either case gaining XP (and credits). By contrast the player that has combat loot, most of it in no/low demand, only gets some xp and creds by selling to an NPC. Who is getting the better deal here? I don't see what is driving this thread. What is it that's broken that these proposals intend to fix?
  7.
With the kind of comp building that is occuring at an Automatic 200%, with this same mind set, why do you not always or automatically get superior ammo each time it is built using ores? Or is this also automatic and I am just not in the know?
Yes.
  8.
Purported? Did I get under your skin?
Only when you attempt to put words in my mouth that never came out of it.
  9.
You didn't outright - you inferred it here: The implication being a reduction in credits in play will make ripping of comps less attractive and so drive people to the seek ores elsewhere (i.e. the ore market). Did I misunderstand what you are saying here?
I said/inferred nothing of the sort. What I posted about the OP's first point agreed with everything you later posted - that high volume builders typically have existing arrangements with ore suppliers and that this is also quite typical of standard Guild arrangements. In answer to the OP's second question as to whether this is a result of shortcomings of the game's economy I said it was but one of many aspects of those shortcomings. Is anyone getting rich from building, for example? As my purported Advocate do yo believe that the game economy, as it currently is, is functioning as you believe it should be?
  10.
Not to be a nay-sayer.. but what would this add to the game?
I second this question.
  11.
Amazing, yet another front page article, this time an interview with the exec producer, Rade Stojsavljevic. They even asked him what he thought of the emulator. http://massively.joy...talk-with-rade/
Thanks for the link, I found that an interesting interview. My favorite quote, and I think it sums up what made EnB quite unique at the time is this: =========================================================================== We tried very hard to build an intuitive and clean user interface, avoid a lot of insider gaming jargon, and provide a smooth progression of difficulty for first-time users. ==================================================================================== I think that's still true of EnB today.
  12.
I do question Jarod's hypothesis that a decrease in credits will improve the ore market.
Where exactly did I say a decrease in credits would improve the ore market?
  13.
Everyone's familiar with the calls on Market channel for weapons, engines, devices, shields, and reactors. But in the weeks I've been playing I have only twice seen a message like: WTB <someOre> There really is no open-market interchange of ores between players. 1) Why is this true? Where are the component makers getting their materials? 2) Is it indicative of a problem in the game economy, or is everything working as expected?
1) For low volume/quick one-time builds many builders just rip components to get the minerals required. For higher volume I suspect those builders have established relationships with ore suppliers and have little need for market calls. This is pretty common, especially in Guilds (also, many builders are likely to have their own mining chars). 2) I do believe it is somewhat indicative of the current state of the game economy. Most master builders have enough credits that the cost of ripping and rebuilding comps vs the time spent in trying to source ores from the market isn't really a concern - the time is way more valuable than the credits. I think few people here, though, would say that the state of the game's economy isn't borked and that a paltry market for ores is only one of many aspects impacted.
  14.
yep you can use them both. Also, linz, as people on the forums are probably sick of me saying by now ... Why do you use local cert? Local cert was added as an emergency login system, and is deficient in many ways compared to not using local cert. I know some people swear blind they can only get in with local cert ticked, but this is because they are running systems that aren't allowing the launcher to update the authlogin.dll and auth.ini files - probably a firewall that's been accidentally ticked to not allow the launcher to change anything. untick local cert, a lot of your problems will go away for starters. Packet optimisation and experimental re-order are totally independent of each other, so feel free to use both. The experimental re-order was tweaked a lot while I was on raids in the FB to give the best performance under high loads. I'll have to revisit it again sometime soon to see if there's any more improvements I can make. huh? the first change I did? I'm not following what you mean?
Within the context, only, of the two checkboxes "Packet Optimization" and "Prototype Reordering" being discussed (and the opinion that had been expressed that they were mutually exclusive).
  15.
I'd doubt it. I believe they're designed to work together, actually.
Agreed. Packet Optimization was the first change Tienbau introduced and supports using larger MTU size - this is targeted at increasing throughput by reducing the overhead inherent in processing smaller packets. I'm less familiar with Prototype Reordering but suspect it has more to do with sequencing management in the event of out of order packets. Hopefully Tienbau will see this and chime in and correct everything I've just gotten horribly wrong. In any case I have both options checked on my clients on two different computers and it works just fine, which is the main point.
  16.
I agree with most of the rest of your post, but I see a problem here. Shield Leech, and many other skills for that matter, have area of effect for level 6 and Level 7. There are situations where as a JE it doesn't make sense for me to use L6 or L7 Shield Leech. Say I'm mining an orefield, and there are 3 orefield guardians, one of which has aggroed on me. I may not want to cast L6 or L7 leech while fighting the one that's aggroed, because then I may have one or both of the other two aggroed on me as well if they're in range to be hit, but haven't aggroed on me yet. Why, if I have Shield Leech maxed, should I have to pay the L7 energy cost, in those situations where L5 would be the better choice, simply because L5 is single target, whereas L7 is area of effect. I do think that we should, accross the board, have more choices in equipment for our ships. I don't know the practicality of the weapon idea as far as making equipment that fits into weapon slots, but acts as devices. Instead simply design a few more items, that aren't devices, but are race apropraite with the equipment engineering buff. Device swaps would work faster.
Well said. If I cast a less-than-max skill why should I pay the same reactor use as the max skill?
  17.
From what I heard one of the nuclear reactors blew up from overheating because of the tsunami.
NO! Please don't spread FUD like this over such a serious situation, some people might believe you and become overly alarmed. There's a a BIG difference between vented hydrogen getting access to oxygen and blowing the roof/walls off a building and actually having a reactor (the vessel in that building) blowing up. As of the latest reports all of the reactor vessels are still intact. The situation remains quite grim and they are a long way from being out of the woods but at this time their biggest issue remains reliable power to pump the water. All of the reactors have reportedly been stopped (control rods fully inserted to damp the reaction) but the decay of the fuel rods is still generating tremendous heat. Until this is under control the threat of some type of melt-down remains. Very, very sad for everyone affected by this. Any incident where one of the logistics issues is running out of body bags is just horrific.

  21. Thoughts and prayers to everyone in the AsiaPac area affected by this. Looks horrific. Hope everyone here with family/friends/acquaintances over there is able to make contact and that they are safe and sound. Our office over there is OK and all of our people are, too, but clearly not everyone was so fortunate.

  24.
dude, i don't care, linux and mac has users too.
Again, for THIS game? It's a Windows game. Whatever. Cdel, please add support for the ".vmarc" extension so that I can install this game on my z/VM system. The fact that, just like for OSX and Linux, there isn't any z/VM variant of this game for me to install shouldn't matter at all, right? I'm sure you have nothing better to do than respond to silly requests to do things that have no value whatsoever.
