  1. Navigation upgrades and devices don't always do as expected. This is perhaps more apparent to TTs doing long trade runs where time is everything. It seems the higher the navigation level the greater the tendency to plot courses that follow numbered nav markers and not the shortest route. In fact there is sometimes an advantage to NOT discovering nav points so they are not considered in the path finding algorithm. It would also seem reasonable that nav upgrades would also improve avoidance of gravity wells, but they don't. A good example of how poorly the existing algorithm works is Aragoth Prime between the gates for Muspelheim and Varen's Girdle once all the nav points have been discovered. I'm suggesting the algorithm be redesigned to actually reduce travel time as navigation level increases and devices are added.
  2. Just came across this post so hence this much belated response. I started E&B on a tower my son and I built more that 20 years ago. Used an ASUS motherboard with a quad core CPU and a GEForce GPU. Was running Win98 if I recall and E&B ran very well. I still use that machine to this day and added a second GPU. Used it to run the emulator back in 2010 with no problems. I believe my OS then was Win 7 and it worked just fine. I have not tried the emulator since then on that machine. I purchased a Lenovo Legion laptop just a few months ago and it is running Win 11. It runs E&B just great. Still have my tower as my main workhorse but Win 8.1 is problematic now that support has discontinued. I may turn that into a UNIX (Linux) platform.
  3. I appreciate that the GMs and DEVs are all volunteers but even volunteer organizations exhibit some common courtesies like letting people know what is going on. People can see for themselves the server is down but I'm sure they would like to know why, that someone in a position to do something is aware of the problem, what the problem may be and what is being done. That only takes a few minutes to post. If the problem requires funding to resolve, I would respond and I'm sure others would as well. I've offered my labor before to help the DEVs by way of a PM but never received a response. I repeat that offer now. My qualifications are pretty much summarized by my last job title before I retired, as a hands on Director of Software Development and Services for Schirmer Engineering (a part of Aon Corp).
  4. Server is still down. Can anyone give a status report? Should we wait or is today a wash? Would be nice to know.
  5. One of my sons introduced me to the original E&B. He rose to a 150 PW and I made it to a 150 TT. We didn't have much interaction except to transfer items but we did bump into each other frequently. He was into RPGs and later introduced me to Final Fantasy, where I was a White Mage. I guess that demonstrates I'm heavily into support roles, trying to keep people alive. Was very happy to see the emulator come out but very disappointed it was so buggy several years back. I stayed away for several years and only recently decided to check back. Much better now but still has major game play issues with the server. I've volunteered to help but no response yet. Server is down now so I thought I'd make this entry to kill my waiting time.
  6. This is a dated topic but has been an issue in the MMRPGs I have played for some time. I see the first post was by a Progen Trader and though I don't know that profession, I'm guessing it's not much different than a Terran Trader. A Trader's job in combat is support, meaning they have their eyes and hands full nursing the team, watching everyone's condition even when the fight is over. Warriors can basically fire and forget and look after themselves. If they are doing their job well, Trader's are at a distinct disadvantage looting. While a warrior may want a rare item to equip, a Trader usually wants it to analyze. Letting a Trader have a rare item that will be destroyed and the analysis may fail is not appealing. The only answer I ever found, no matter the game, was not to party with loot hogs. Then again, rare drops have a transforming affect.
  7. I have an account password to login to the Net-7 portal that works. I had to change it since my last login was 2010 and I had long forgotten what that password was. I got a ridiculously long generated password that did work for the game. I changed it in the Net-7 portal to something I could remember. Now, no password works to get me in the game, including the generated password. Does anyone know how passwords are used? Are they different for the portal and the game? Is there a time lag for the game to update? Now, some reason, I can't reset any password and I can't find the screen i used to get the generated password. Can anyone explain, step by step, screen by screen and link by link how to straighten out my password mess? for
