1. This thing never seems to die. I inflicted about a thousand points of damage into this critter after its shield was zero. I tried this with two different toons and had the same result. Perhaps it is broken? The lv 18 dies nicely though.
2. Every time I type in my password and hit enter, I crash back to desktop. Megan gives me a stare with those eyes and says "Bye, no EnB for you."
3. If anything, it may be weaker than before. The 40 second timer is no fun. But hey, it only means an adjustment in tactics. Carry on.
4. Haha, when I first read through this quickly I thought this line read " I will be prospecting her soon." Too much EnB.     Can I get some of my rank back? Since I made it back after the wipe I went from important member to peon. I'd like to recruit some people again.
5. I don't remember shields ever for ships. The PvP is somewhat like EVE, in that there are safer zones. You tried to gank someone near a station...you might as well kiss your ass goodbye to the station weaponry. One thing VO did that I thought was interesting was the convoy raids. You could either group and attack one of the regular convoys travelling through space or be a defender. That is something that could be done in this game. You could have an ore convoy of say five frieghters moving from one end of a sector to another...suddenly, a frantic radio message goes out to all pilots to assist in repelling a Chavez attack on the convoy. You might get 5-7 minutes to show up and save the ships. Just a thought, one of many.
6.   I was wondering if I'd ever run across anyone else who played Vendetta Online. I did Cph/Cov, almost got banned from CoV because I made a villian named John Wayne Gacy and dressed it up to look as close to a clown as close as I could. They said I couldn't have that character. I said to the mod "What is this, City of Villians or City of Pussies?" Bam, got spanked for that, lol.
7. Yo guys, I'm back in game after a long hiatus due to being very busy. Damn, they had a P wipe and I'm a noob again! I'll look for someone online. Guess I start at the bottom again, lol.
8. Well, I have nothing, and can't even find any guildies from before. Sigh, I'm a noob all over again. And now my wife wants me all night, so I might not get on tonight. It's nice to see my name again, even if lv 0.
9. Finally got back in game!! I had to hack my own computer to get the admin password, lol. I never had to install as admin before. I had to clear out every old dusty piece of E&B before it worked.
10. Error launching client Wrong AuthLogin.dll version   Your version 3.3.0.2 Required version 3.3.0.6   I updated and I still get this message.
11. Any way to get the right Net7Proxy file and just drop it in?
12. Just checked my account and saw that all my toons are lv 0??? Player wipe? I've been gone awhile, and hoping to get the game reinstalled and playing again. Having a few issues...
13. I give up, lol! I've done uninstall, reinstall, deleted the Net7proxy file, reloaded from the launcher, nothing works.
14. I keep getting a message that says "imcompatable version of Net7Proxy, latest version is 2.22" I downloaded all the files and updated them. What did I miss?
15. "I know the prospect of new fantastic content is years off, like many others I am bored to tears and want something else to do. Why not blow up Vitaes for a few hours a day while we wait for epic content and the devs and testers to sort the bugs. Sure beats job runs and grinding fish." Thanks buddy :-) I'll get that screenshot of your flaming, sparkling ship, distress beacon toggled, and make it my background!
16.
That is the rub... Many didn't use the arenas. Is it possible that your memory may be faded as all of ours are and that was not the only reason for lack of use? How large an area is not confining? I guess as long as it can be done without modifying the client it would be worth a shot to go ahead and just do it. Flagging and activating and deactivating I assume would be a client modification so that would be out. (Unless PvP is worth incurring EA's wraith). So that leaves a sector or the whole EnB world. From what I have read on some posts a sector is not enough and they want the whole game PvP. If the PvP supporters are that sure that there will be no or little loss of users (read players that donate) then don't bother the discussion, just go for it. It won't be perfect out of the box and will require tweaking and modifications anyway.
I hope my memory hasn't faded that much! I think PvP'ers would be content with one sector. These sectors are large enough for any tactics. Of course, I can't speak as to how much coding has to be done in order to do this. I remember the arenas being nearly empty after a while. From what I remember, some were bored, some didn't like the fact that the arena environment favored some classes over others, and some just don't like PvP. Now, I'll address the one big gorilla in the room that no one has yet mentioned. Our population is already small. Is there enough of a PvP population to justify the resources necessary to get this up and running? And even PvP'ers PvE a lot. Unless you're on a PvP-only server in a game, it's not death and destruction 24/7. I just think, from experience, that PvP would be a blast in this game. There is so much potential for it.
17.
PW roots enemies with grav link, TEs hack them to keep them from fighting back effectively, PS and PP Menaces the Opfor DPS while the PW and TW mangles the JE and TTs of the Opfor. mwa haha
Group cloak is lifted. JD decloaks and folds space 3 times on PW (crowd control). Other decloaking Jennie summons friend to battle area, where a TE has counter-hacked the first TE. PS and PP now fighting outnumbered and hope to survive until the rest of the battle group is back in the fight, as cowardly TT's fire missles from long range. MWA haha!!
18.
Here is the deal...as far as I know not much can be changed in the client (unless someone is working on a new one) so just open it up to PvP system wide. See if the 4 or 5 in here that are actively pushing for PvP can sustain the server costs. If not make sure you have those that bail e-mail addresses and let them know it was an oopsi and beg them to return. Seriously Open up the arenas FIRST as a test to see if there is any use in them before going to the trouble to make a sector for a handful of players. Think prototype.
I agree and disagree--no, I'm not bipolar. Having a whole sector that flags you when you entered is probably about the same as getting flagged for the arena. If the arena is considered a separate sector for PvP purposes, then maybe it's very possible to do that to a sector. As far as the arena, again, certain classes are really at a disadvantage in such an artificial, confined playground. I, and others, stopped using them during live because of that. The arena was not, and never was, real PvP.
19. "But for players skills to function in PvP it has to "force you to perceive" the other player in some way for it to work, you don't really fall for it, but it effects you just the same" That's the way resistance works in other games, and could be made to work here. To borrow from the fantasy-type games, here are examples of "spells to skills" that this game could have. Anyone who has played Anarchy Online, Everquest, WoW, Asheron's Call, or Vendetta Online could identify with this. I'll even include Baldur's Gate, because in that game if you had a bunch of people playing, you could turn on each other and PvP! Root=grav link Fear=menace Illusion=cloak Charm=befriend Teleport/shift=fold space Harm=leech Blind/paralyze=hacking Skills like those should have a % chance of fail when used against another player (except for leech, that should work almost all the time I'd say). The fail chance should not be so high that the skill becomes useless, but high enough so that the user knows that he better have "Plan B" ready in case of failure (Oh crap, my fold space failed and that PW is about to unload on me...maybe I should fold on myself and get the hell out of here before I become the newest hulk field...). In other respects, EnB already has many attributes of other games that feature PvP. Shields and armor from fantasy games, especially those with different resistances to various attack forms, are duplicated in EnB through the many shield types and deflect devices availible to players. Consider that in a fantasy-type game, and sci-fi crossovers, there are attack forms like piercing, blunt, slashing, fire, cold, acid, and bludgeoning. Here, they are plasma, impact, energy, chemical, explosive, EMP, and psionic. Seven each, nice coincidence, hehe. In other games, debuffing is an important aspect of PvE and PvP, just as it is in EnB. No difference there. Would PvP equipment be different? No...but the CHOICE of gear used would be different. All of a sudden, items that feature a faster equip time, for example, might suddenly become a lot more useful to classes with few device slots (yes, you, Mr. Progen Warrior). Gear that enhance cloaking ability, healing, or deflects againt the popular attack types would be in high demand, as would gear that improves critical targeting. If you only have a few device slots, having a device similar to the Ivory Ward, which covers five deflects, looks darn good to classes with three or four device slots. Gear that can enhance the range of healer-types would look good in a group, too, as they need to keep the fighter-types alive, so they too can survive. Having a mix of weapons in the group that can fire different types of damage to get around the buffs others are using could now be important. There's a lot of potential here. It'd be cool if we can realize it.
20.
So whats your stance on FORCED CONTEMPLATION? Still think no skills should be disabled? The JE will make you be able to do zip while a fellow pvp flagged destroys you...... How about how POWERDOWN worked in arena LIVE?...the PS was totally immune while it was on...you can't target it..you can't shoot it..powerdown made them untargetable, no "see through" items on powerdown, no save roll to get through it...they could sit there until doomsday and thumb their nose at you and you can do nothing but watch their reactor and shield fill back up...think there should be a modification to MENACE? They "as it stands" have a 100% hit chance and you have 0% resist to them chain menacing you..You run away and can't use any skill, still think no skills should be 'modified"? Even if they put in resist its the PSI resist buff thats you chance....50% resist chance....I can spam menace at least 6 times before it falls off, think what your odds of getting out are....all while the PS shoves hot ammo up your arse. You know that PP get MENACE also right? 5 guns of dmg, crit dmg ,shield recharge, with a martyr's heart/warrior heart reactor combo bottomless reactor....L9 shields. Without Menace they can sit there and laugh in your face while they enlessly heal themselves and still do damage to you..add MENACE? pffft. Cloak? They can get a see cloak through gearage also...AKA Agrippa tech. How about BEFRIEND...how would that work?..if its like on a mob it don't preclude them using nonagro buffs, but for the duration, if the TT don't dmg you, you can take no agressive action...how would that work in a multipvp setting if they chain befriended? All thise off the top of my head without a sweat...still no "modification or disabling" of skills?
Have you PvP'ed much? This is in all games with PvP. People who PvP expect bad things to happen to them. I did it for many years pretty hardcore in a number of games. I knew that I might get in a fight againt four others with no support. I knew I was going to be debuffed out the ass in a group fight, or if I was up against a high level character. But this was by choice. You have an interesting point about the way some skills are in the game. Skills like cloak, befriend (LOLOLOL, doesn't work againt mobs), hacking, menace and powerdown would have a chance at being resisted based on the levels of the players. The higher level player has a better chance of being successful. Think of it as magic resistance in space, and most games with PvP handle such issues that way. It's a proven system that works. It's up to the player to decide whether or not he/she wants to take a chance on using the skills in question. Sure, spam menace. Better hope those two Terrans hacking you fail. Maybe they will fail because that JD decloaked and blasted them, but when he decloaked the PW waiting for him debuffed him for plasma and unloaded on him. Too bad he didn't see the JE next to him. Mr. PW just got folded away from the fight. Lots of things can happen in this game. And if someone wants to talk trash then turn wussie, we can bust his stones in chat.
21. "7.NONCOMBATANTS HAVE A CLEAR WARNING THAT BUFFING/HEALING PVPERS WILL ENTER THEM IN A FLAGGED FOR PVP STATE. Why? Long ago when I was playing WoW and wasn't savvy to the flagging rules, I came apon a fellow faction in a near death state while I was questing, not seeing his cloaked enemy/pvp target (and understanding the pvp flag system) I healed him, there was NO warning that I was now a potential victim, I was promptly murdered for my kindness. And then the jackass camped my corpse, when I rezzed he promptly murdered me again, once again, I not knowing the rules, didn't know I had to sit around the corpse and twiddle my thimbs for 10 minutes to exit a flagged state, that even though I was dead from doing a good deed, my death didn't exit me from further harrassment and griefing action." This is where Asheron's Call got it right. Upon death, you rezzed at a lifestone and were immune to attack for one minute. That was plenty of time to get your ish together, get to a safe place if needed, regroup, rebuff, and get back out there to fight again. Also, they had to put a timer into place that didn't allow people to log out during combat, so wimpy peeps didn't attack, then just log when they found out they were about to get a good butt whipping.
