  1. I've noticed most people base the facts on their opinion. They will have an opinion on some topic, and use parts of that topic to support their opinion. Its very common, and easily done, to find an article on the web related to your opinion and quote parts of it to make your arugments. Typically opinions are based on one's personal view of right and wrong. Right and wrong is a matter of how you view things.
  2. Not a bad quote, it is pretty accurate I think. MMOs, and anything online in general, suffer from the "cool kids" problem. Someone makes a witty comment (WoW sux! Tebow sux! etc) and people think its cool and follow suit wanting to fit in. I've never understood that mentality and probably never will, when it comes to opinions there is no right or wrong. I'm the same way in the real world that I am in any game I play. If I feel the need I will speak my mind and be blunt about it, sugar coating is for cookies. If someone asks what *I* think, I will tell them what I think and not what I believe they want to hear. It doesn't sit well with a lot of people, I tend to piss people off a lot both in game and in real life. But people also know if they want the truth they can ask me and get it. So again I have to agree that quote is spot on. You could even go one step further and add in if your opinion isn't the same as mine you suck, are dumb, lick windows and such. Since the two comments are usually in the same threads heh.
  3. I've grouped and talked to Jack on a number of occassions. He has always been nice and helpful to me. He could have easily took Desash from me a number of times but because he was only after 1 drop he would group with me and we'd take the one drop we were each after. Seems like a stand-up guy to me. But sadly, I bet Jack gets some kind of repremand for saying *censored*in chat and Von won't get anything for his choice of words. Simple fact of life, Von is more known in the community than Jack and likely has friends that can...help. Just my quick, random thoughts about this since my last post.
  4. Well as much as it will probably bite me in the...to say this, I'm afraid you might as well get used to it. Its seems VonCorp is split, half of you guys are cool and nice to talk to, the other half go around and do the exact same thing that was done to you minus the nice-ness part. Whether you condone it or not I don't know and honestly don't care, thats up to you/your guild. But as long as some of your guild continues to act the way they do, people will feel free to return the favor. Like I said, I don't know if you approve of the behavior or not. Don't reckon I've ever spoke to you directly till now. But as it stands, if you don't already know, VonCorp is a guild people either love or hate. From the people I talk to, that seems to be split about half and half atm :/.
  5. The problem with that is anyone that falls into option2 is less likely to be willing to work with those in option1. The best option, of course just in my opinion, is once the game is in a alpha/beta test and live is lessen some of the timed boss spawns. Currently every boss worth killing is on a known timer, and spawns at a known nav. Random timers and semi-random navs would curb a lot of camping which ultimately leads to 'you KS'ed me!' arguments. If there are 20 named bosses with highly sough after loot, put 12-14 on a random timer/nav spawn and the others on the current timed cycle. Those who have the time to camp more will still have more chances at the bosses, but it still gives a fair chance to someone who only plays 2-3 hours a day.
  6. I've had the same thing happen randomly Floss. It'll work fine for a long time then out of no where it stops. Not sure why, but most of the time docking or gating makes it work again for me. Seems CT is touchy as hell.
  7. Haven't ran the 8600 series myself, but I used to run 8800gts 320 (x2 in SLi) and ran everything up to (and including) Aion without any problems. So a single 8600gts should handle EnB without any problem. If you plan to play newer games, I'd advise going a little higher if you can though.
  8. I agree, grinding to max level ASAP is a good way to burn out. Normally I level just a bit ahead of 'the pack'. Just this time 2 things happened: I had a few days off and had the house to myself, I was also wanting to try leveling a different way than I usually do. And it was about 2 weeks of casual playing for me to hit TL28-ish, THEN 4 days to run it to TL50. And I'll throw this in here as well, theres a new bug (for me atleast) I found. Combat Trance lv7 does not like stacking with Ivory Ward. It bugs after a while and doesn't give the full resists it should. Works fine until you move long enough to lose Trance, then the resists 'cap' themselves at 50 instead of the 73 it should be.
  9. Missile PWs are better than Beam PWs I guess lol. It can work, I remember having maxxed missiles on my PW in Live (with extra SPs of course), and kiting/killing pretty easy with'em. You seem to understand its not as good as having PLs which is a good thing. If you do decide to go full out missiles and no PLs can you probably skip some other PW skills as well. Shield Sap would be worthless, you'll never be in range for it. Combat Trance doesn't have any use except for the +reactor regen at lv6, the deflects and shield regen should never be needed so you can probaly skip it as well. I would sugguest picking up max rank Grav Link though (lv5 *might* be enough range for you, have to decide that yourself), IIRC it gives a bonus to missile damage do to the maneuverability debuff. Overall its the second best set-up for a PW, has some nice advantages to it though.
  10. You can level unbalanced, but unlike a TE or a TT who can kite pretty effectively, it will eventually catch up to you. At some point you will not be able to tank the mobs nor will you be able to out run them with reverse kiting. In my experiance this tends to happen around the higher CL30s/OL90. You'll end up having to run those dreaded trade routes anyway, so might as well get it over with early and benefit from it rather than wait till you have to and no other choice. Here is how I leveled, it wasn't the funnest route but it was effective. I think with some tweaks here and there, after the next P-wipe I can level it easier and faster. Fairly Balanced up to CL20-25 (my levels were something like 2X/15/15) Got to CL30/TL26, then ran TL up to 50(!). Took about 4 days (7hours or so a day) to hit TL50. Wasnt too bad, plus the money was a nice boost for upgrading After that I had no problem getting up to CL43 Ran 2 or 3 tours a few days ago that brought my EL from 20 to 29. Then I noticed I couldnt hunt like I prefer to hunt, which is +5 or more CLs above me. So I've ran some more trade routes (Starting last night actually) and am currently at OL125. And should easily hit OL130 or OL135 sometime today. I know what you're thinking, and no I dont play that much really. On average I might get in 4 hours, once in a while I can slip in a big day of 7-8 hours. Its all about managing your time to make the most of it. Which is another benefit of having high TL. If I only get to play 3 hours today, I sure don't want to waste an hour of it spamming market for someone to make my ammo or upgrade my guns. When Im out hunting, I always start thinking of whats next. My next hunting spot, what skills I want to increase next and when I'll be able to. I always follow the rule that PL, Shields, Reactor gets priority on upgrading first. Then Critical Targeting, Shield Sap then Combat Trance. The only exception is at CL35/36. Save enough skill points to be able to upgrade Combat Trance immediately at CL35 over anything else, and at CL36 get your new weapons. As far as devices, yeah there is a lot missing from that list. I just put up some of the early level ones people should use. Personally right now I have about 10-12 devices I swap around depending on what I plan on doing. And I dont even have all the ones I want yet lol. As I've said a few times, there is never going to be and end-all be-all way of leveling. This is just what works best for me. I try to maximize my time, and I find myself playing solo more often than not.
  11. Yea I see that all the time. I guess you can do it but IMO PWs live and die by their shields/reactors. All our guns are useless when you have no reactor juice and taking hull damage from having a lv4 shield at cl40 lol
  12. Ty Ice! I thought about putting in some of the nicer items that help,a nd since the server is still down and might be for a while I may edit some in. I didn't know about the NOS device lol. Does it just increase the cap or does it also act as a Cat's Paw type device? I assume it is the former but figured I'd ask.
  13. If I was to hazard a guess, its down to change some of the priviledges per Barracuda's post. So most likely a few hours tops. Of course it could be related to another part of his post, but I'm not even going to mention it and risk the outrage lol.
  14. Have some time on my hands and I have been meaning to do post this. There is an awful lot of new players, either with the class or the game entirely, that have little to no clue about how to effectively play a PW. Of course anything I say is going to be based off my own experiances and observations. I played a maxxed out PW in Live, a lv80-ish PW in ST3 (RL slowed me down), and currently have a OL118 PW in ST4. So lets get started! Overview The Progen Warrior (PW) is the get-in-yer-face and pound ya class. We get a total of 6 weapon slots (2 starting, +1 @ OL10, +1 @ OL50, +1 @ OL75, +1 @ OL135), and 3 device slots. The PW is intended to use projectile weapons which allow for some mid-range, high damage guns. Typically seen as the tank in a group setting due to our ability to use lv9 shields and 82,000 hull points at OL135. Also some of our skills are slanted towards that role of increasing aggro and reducing damage. Most PWs will have slight variations in their skills so some may be set-up for tanking better than others. You start out using a beam weapon, but shortly after you get the mission to upgrade to projectiles. Most Progen skills and gear buffs are based on projectiles so you use those. Skills Beam Weapons Until you are OL150 you shouldn't put any points into this. While a few PWs have focused on using beam weapons, we are usually restricted from the nicer beams that Jenquai can use. Missile Weapons These are better than Beams I guess, but still not ideal for a Progen of any class. You get the benefit of longer range than projectiles have, but lose some of the buffs from other things. While not ideal, missiles can be a decent option compared to projectiles. Projectiles Any Progen with more than two brain cells will MAX this skill. Once you get to lv7 projectile weapons the damage they can inflict is just amazing. Again, MAX THIS SKILL! Build Weapons This is up for debate depending on your options. If you have a weapon building character already you can skip this and save some skill points, if you don't you should take it. Player Made (PM) weapons gives better buffs, fire faster and PM ammo does 30% more damage. As a class built for combat you want all the damage you can get from your guns. Shield and Reactor Techs These should always be at the highest level you can get them. These are your lifelines! You'll take these all the way to MAX rank. Devices Another thing that should be MAXXED to Tech 8. We don't get to use lv9 devices, but there is some amazing lv8 devices you will want. They buff things from weapon fire rate, shield/reactor regen, scan range, you name it and there is probably a device that buffs it. Engine Tech Usually people debate on how high to take this skill. Personally if you can I say take it to the MAX as speed is important to all classes. Higher level engines let you reverse kite easier, meaning you can kill some higher level mobs than you think you can. I always take it to lv4 quick as I can, then finish it out as the last skill I upgrade. Shield Sap One of my favorite skills personally. This allows you to (at higher ranks of it) drain shield from an enemy (or a GROUP of enemies!) and refill your own shields with it. If you MAX this, which you should, you can keep using the lower rank (SHIELD TRANSFER) as it is increased in power from having the higher ranks and is very cheap on energy cost. Shield Inversion Often debated, this skill has its uses and its drawbacks. At MAX rank its great for farming lower level mobs, and as a small DPS boost in regular hunting. Plus the graphic is kinda cool looking. My opinion is that the skill points are better spent elsewhere. Repair Equipment Not a bad skill, I would sugguest taking this to level-3 and stopping there. Again, past level-3 the skill points are better spent somewhere else. Self Destruct Ah SD, the poor man's Wormhole. This skill, while worthless as its intended design, does have one great use: Set your home base to Queen Anne's Revenge (in Blackbeards Wake) and you can use SD to get almost anywhere in the galaxy in a few minutes! Don't put any points into this though, the level 1 effect can do the above trick. Gravity Link My other favorite skill next to shield sap! This will slow your target, and at rank 5 (and higher) it also gives a nice debuff on the target, weakening its resistance to IMPACT damage! I would sugguest taking this to lv5 (Immobilization), anything after that is up to you. Enrage A simple, commonly used tank ability. Causes the mobs to focus attacks on you. If you plan on grouping a lot this could be handy. Otherwise I'd skip it. Combat Trance This is a great ability. Gives passive resistance to all damage types (except PSI which VERY few mobs use), and the last 2 levels of it gives increased reactor and shield regen. This is a staple PW talent, you'll want it. Critical Targeting Gives an increased chance to land a critical hit for more damage. Combine this (70% at max rank) with the buffs from various gear and you'll be at, or very close to, 100% critical hits. This should be a no-brainer to max. Damage Control This is a personal choice talent for most. I happen to think its worth the points. At max rank it has the same effect of adding 200% more hull points and for a class with 82000 hull points, that means a lot more beating to kill us. At OL150 you have 276 skill points to spend. If you Max the no-choices (projectiles, shields, reactors, devices, Combat Trance, Critical Targeting, Engine to Tech 4) that leaves you with 92 skill points. After you hit OL150 you get 1 skill point per "extra level", so spend them wisely. They aren't easy to come by. Progen Warrior Tips and Tricks Reverse Kiting - Simple to do and highly effective. Throw Gravity Link on the mob and hit reverse thrust while firing at it. You stay with-in your damage range, while out of the mobs damage range. You'd be amazed at how much higher level stuff you can kill this way. Poor Man's Wormhole - Already mentioned above but I'm going to add it again here. Travel to Queen Anne's Revenge station in Blackbeard's Wake, once you register there you can use a combination of Self Destruct and the gates in that sector to travel almost anywhere in the galaxy with-in minutes! Self Destruct doesn't cause XP Debt or gear damage. Those are just 2 of the common tricks for a PW, I'll let you figure out the rest . Some gear buffs you'll want to watch out for are: + Projectile Skill + Projectile Range Turbo Weapons + Reactor Recharge + Shield Recharge (just not anything with +Recharge Shield Skill! that won't help you!) + Scan + Speed Here are some useful sites along the way: Character Skill Planner Net7 Item Database (Ran by Slayerman!) EnB Galaxy Maps NOTE these are from Live and not COMPLETELY accurate, but very helpful. Old EnB Live Leveling Guide Again, from Live but it can give you some ideas Level 30 HU Mission Walkthrough Can also be found in this forum And since I still have time to kill, here are some really useful items you can hunt down: Steingerd's Embrace +30% reactor Regen, swap it in and buff, then swap it out for a combat device Puk's Wing Projectile Energy Conservation Taniwha's Pride Projectile Energy Conservation with an added Impact/Explosive Debuff to target Tatsu's Pride Same as the above, but with plasma/energy debuffs. Hard to get Normandy Shield Line Has an activated +shield regen buff. Even if you use another shield, have one for the buff Slime Cannon Has some nice buffs, less DPS than PM guns but the buff for the other guns offsets it Roc's Device Line Nice, cheap and at lv5+ it gives a much needed scan boost Sting Line devices Has an actived Projectile Weapon Skill buff. another swap in and buff then swap out device Cat's Paw Line Devices Nice combat speed (thrust) buff. Though some of the mid-level ones have a Projectile Range debuff, can opt for the Hapry Line of Devices instead to avoid this Just some basic devices you'll most likely want. There are tons more but these are the ones you'll start using early. That should be more than enough information to get you started. You can also hit me up in-game and I'll answer what I can.
  15. First of all, THANK YOU for posting and letting the community know what is going on. It is greatly appreciated. I am curious about the quoted section though. If someone was abusing their powers to further along themselves, and from the wording their friends, will action be taken against ALL of them or only the person who abused the powers? Sadly it seems most players are only concerned with playing the game and reaching max level, they forget this is a TESTING phase still. Reguardless, I hope you guys get it all ironed out and it makes things easier on you guys in the long run.
  16. Sad, and hateful, as it sounds, you won't get help setting it up. I posted a month or so ago asking a question about it without any response. All I can tell you is setting up VMPlayer 3 isn't hard, the common issue seems to be adjusting something to allow the net7 proxy to connect on both 'machines'. Hope you get it working, but dont hold your breath :/
  17. The reason a lot of current MMOs fail is that the recent trend is to release a unfinished product. It has become the norm for an MMO to release without ANY end-game content, raiding or otherwise (multiple MMOs recently), with amazing amounts of downtime (again, multiple recent MMOs), a poor leveling system (Conan and Aion come to mind here, even EnB could fit in here as its very limited), and a clunky crafting system that has no depth at all (Conan, Aion, STO). As for subscription numbers, MMOs are advertised by word of mouth more than anything else. And wether people want to admit it or not, a lot of the WoW fanbois will hit up new MMO forums just to trash the game for their beloved WoW. Which brings me to my last point - WoW is the current MMO monster, love it or hate it thats how it is. But WoW's success has led to a new breed of MMOs players which are undermining what got the MMO market to its current place. New MMO players don't want to work for anything, even if it is barely even working for it. This type of player wants the simplicity of a single-player game, with the social interaction of an MMO. They want their hands held through every quest, every level and every gear upgrade choice. And since they now outnumber the older MMO players (from probably SWG back I would consider the older-style players) every new MMO is being catered to this type of player. Recent games that have tried to target the older players have been trying to also attract a handful of the new MMO player as well, and that is why they typically fail. They are too boring/easy for the older players, and too hard for the new MMO player. MMO companies aren't likely to change their views on what makes a successful MMO (AKA a WoW reskin), and players will continue to trash any MMO that doesn't have 12 million players like WoW. As someone that truely enjoys MMO-playstyle, I believe we're locked into a vicious cycle that isn't likely to end anytime soon...
  18. No and No. The market channel encourages players to actually do some interaction with each other. And Orion used to use the private channel auction system too. That's enough to cover it. And prospecting has to stay explore classes only. If'when explore xp and general mining issues are fixed obtaining ores won't be so hard. Most people found EnB mining fun and relaxing. Asking for explore on warrior classes makes as much sense as wanting critical targeting on the explore classes.
  19. It would be a hard decision honestly. EnB is a great game, probably tied for first with SWG (pre-CU/NGE) for me. But EAs track record with MMOs makes them hard to trust. In the end, assuming the game basics stayed the same but with updated content, newer graphics (game still looks amazing to me even though its 10 years old), I'd have to take the chance and give it a go. And that isn't because I'd forgive EA or anything, simply because I feel EnB is that good of a game.
  20. Check to make sure Vista has all of its updates. When I put Win7 on my laptop it was doing the same thing, and was because it wasn't fully updated.
  21. We all know how the spillover XP works, so I won't bother posting that. The problem I've found is specific to spillover from trade XP. First off I'll give you some basics so you have some understanding of what I'm talking about: Progen Warrior (TL50/OL97) Trade Route from Fenris to Somerled - lv5 trade good (Nanobots) - 1,000 trade xp per Lv5 loot from (cl30-32) organic mobs - stacked to 38 peices - 1893 trade xp Now I know it is very odd for a non-trade class to max TL first, but I was testing something else and found this problem. As you can see I planned on maxing my TL, and letting the spillover from that help level my CL/EL via loots, while I was actually leveling my CL. Figured the little boost from the spillover would be something worth testing. However, there is a MASSIVE decline in trade xp rewarded from loot, and it was something I expected but not to this degree. This could/will really hurt the trade classes that typically max their TL for building skills, then focus on combat afterwards. All the looting they do while leveling combat, will reward them very little spillover XP to boost their CL/EL. This is something that needs to be discussed, looked into (possible bug maybe?), and if warranted - changed. I'm not sure what the numbers are with lv8/9 loot items but I'm sure its atleast a little better. But the issue is once you can hunt for loot that level typically the mobs are lv45+ (and usually 50+) so the boost to CL isn't an option to speed up leveling. I haven't gotten to fully test this yet but here are some numbers I have gotten: lv5 organic loot - 1 peice - 16 trade xp (@TL50, but it gets split into 7cl/7el xp) lv5 trade route item - 1 item -1,000 xp (splits like it should, 500cl/500el) ***From Memory*** - Lv5 organic loot - 83 peices - gave me roughly 17,000 trade XP, trading to another player and not the vendor, at TL28 (seemed about right in relation to my levels) What I gather from this is: If you hunt and loot, the xp from the loot will be appropiate for your Trade Level If you max your Trade Level, and plan on letting spillover XP boost your CL/EL, it doesn't work very well at all. The most effeicent way to level is to focus exclusively on combat, which will keep your TL fairly close and let the spillover from combat boost EL/TL once you hit CL50 due to the fact that combat XP is not reduced. To get the ball rolling with solutions I'll start with something simple: We have a total of 50 trade levels, and 9 levels of loot in the game. If each level of loot = 5 trade levels then Each peice of loot should award .5% of a TL if it falls into the correct range Example table: graph lost its formatting but I'll fix it later, kid on my lap making it hard lol TL 50| x | 45| x | 40| x | 35| x | 30| x | 25| x | 20| x | 15| x | 10| x | 5 |x | __|___________________________________ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Loot Item Level If you are TL10, and loot 20 peices of Lv2 loot you would gain 10% of a TL. Factor in killing speed at that level, drop chance of loot: you'd gain maybe 30-40% of a TL per hour. If you are TL30, and loot those SAME 20 peices of Lv2 loot you would gain 2% of a TL. More or less diminishing returns kick in. Would have to have some kind of reduction every X amount of TLs to keep it balanced, say at TL35 you get .2% per item or something To prevent exploiting you could always cap it at no more than .5% of a TL per item, but it can be reduced. (No farming lv9 items to a TL10 for massive XP boosts) Of course the .5% could be changed to a more fitting number if need be. It just works well for a starting point. ~*~*~*~ My thoughts on this ~*~*~*~ This is really wrong to any trader class, or anyone else that levels TL "first". While I know, and agree, that for balance XP from loot has to be reduced in relation to TL I believe the current reduction is too steep and needs changing. I've thought about the arguement that the trader classes could always just continue to run trade routes since it appears THAT xp isn't effected, but again that is kind of slapping them in the face to me. If that is the option for them, why even give them weapon slots? They wont need them. Combat in any game will always be the most fun part to most players, and will have an advantage due to that. Just the way it is. But in the current form it is also the only viable option. With the dicussions concerning EL xp from mining, which hinders the ability to max EL and let spillover help the other too; I felt it should be known that TL suffers the same drawbacks and both need to be addressed.
  22. Damn Terrans! I was surprised we didn't get as much snow as they thought we would, only 4-5 inches so far :/.
  23. But that in itself is going to create problems. You currently have 2 types of players - those that will KS, camp, and do anything else they can think of to get that uber drop; and those that want the drop but won't (or can't) go to those same extremes to aquire it. If you make more accessible content (via player spawned mobs to reduce KSing) but give them lower quality loot you are (basiclly) saying that if you do not act like a hardcore-elitist you don't deserve the good loot. The fairest solution, and of course this may be only me opinion, would be to make new/future content spawn-able through long/very-long questlines, like the old ZEM in Xipe Totec. Casual players/guilds could work towards it without fear of someone taking their hard work and players wouldnt need to fight over spawns because everyone would have their own. A little competition is a wonderful thing, dont get me wrong. But as long as there are timed "world" boss spawns, players that have that "asshole" mentality will grief others because they believe it is THEIR spawn because they can kill it faster. That kind of activity should not be encouraged nor rewarded heavily.
  24. I don't know Ever, or really know Bylar that much. I have had run-ins with Bylar before though, and he has no hesitation acting like an ass to get what he wants. Without knowing the full story here though its hard to say what is fair. IMO timed bosses are open game and the most dmg wins, if Ever was hunting regular mobs at a nav and Bylar forced him out by killing everything/KS'ing him then that is wrong. Reguardless if EA/WW designed the game with 51%+ gets the loot or not, the community does have the final say in what is acceptable and what isn't. Its been that way in every MMO and isn't likely to change anytime soon. And as for the whole "my guild will make you pay!!!111oneone" crap, if the guild is who I think it is Bylar should just join them, be a perfect fit with their mentality.
  25. This is becoming more and more of a problem too. E&B had (IMO) the best community of ANY game Ive ever played and while it was probably wrong on my part, I expected the Emu community to be the same. Too many players in the game have gotten the mind-set that since they played in ST #x they have some kind of privilege and are better. If someone asks for help they will berate them instead of helping them. If you wanna act like an ass, go ahead. But remember that people DO remember that down the road... Sorry I kinda highjacked you're thread, but it seemed fitting to respond to Mneme's message with what Ive been wanting to say.
