  1. Well - I can't answer this poll. The second part of the poll does not take into consideration that the miner might have screwed up -- I know I have. And I have to answer both parts of the poll to be considered. People here have some valid points. I recently went looking for certain ores, and I would most certainly have cleared the roids in which I found them. Another miner was there first, and had stripped all the valuable building ores out before me. I was angry. In retrospect, I think I can say I was angrier because s/he had gotten there before me. My response to the incident was based more on emotion rather than a thought process. Now I would have to be the one to clear the whole field to get what I wanted. But even if this other person had cleared out the roid - would the roid have respawned in a timely fashion? No. Still - to have miners running around spinning through roids and leaving the garbage seems impolite. Having some sort of structure shows that there is concern for everyone. And wherever there exists the possibility of anarchy, there will always have to be rules.
  2. You're exactly right, and this was my own fault because it is suggested that this be run in Windows XP compat mode. Just because it worked before this patch didn't mean it was going to work after the patch without doing so. I guess maybe I had a sense of frustration due to my inability to find any way to get EnB to work on my Vista desktop pre upgrade. I'm just really glad someone in general chat knew the fix when I logged on with my XP machine.
  3. I made sure this exploit was as repeatable as hell. Once I found it, I checked out all aspects of the device in terms of what it did, and what it was supposed to do. Puzzles, I love them - these kinds anyway.... Like I said -- one aspect of the exploit was fixed while I watched the screen. The endless reactor disappeared right from under me and my reactor bar filled with depletable power. But the empty shield was still able to transfer power to my reactor, so a-mining I went. I know this will be gotten to eventually, but at least I know I did what I'm supposed to do.
  4. Anyone having a problem with this upgrade needs to go into properties and make sure it is set for Windows XP. This will solve the problem.
  5. Okay – so it was months before I could finally get my sweet desktop to work. My Vista machine could never get past Megan. I’d reach her, input my password, hit enter (and even tried gently placing my cursor over Accept) and BANG – crash to desktop. Well – after spending a few hundred to get my Windows 7 Ultima upgrade, I was delighted to find the EnB screen nestled on my desktop. Wow – my nice HD monitor gave me a Hell of a ride. Good Job I’m back to my desktop crashes after this program upgrade.
  6. Reporting exploits is something we all signed on to do when we were allowed to participate in this game. We are, in essence, problem-solvers in terms of discovering things that need to either be redefined as to their functions or fixed because they’re just plain broken. There’s a device out there that gave unlimited reactor power when overdeployed. Mining was a breeze. A level 5 reactor with level 5 prospect was no impediment to level 9 ores. I mentioned (through Twitcher) it in general chat, was questioned by a GM, and asked to drop a ticket on the issue. Then I read this PM that said, “thanks for spilling the beans.” Spilling the beans? How many people knew about this device and said nothing? Just exactly why are we here? The endless reactor syndrome was fixed shortly after I dropped the ticket, but those of you who might be upset about the fix will be happy to know you still don’t have to have any shield from which to transfer power to your reactor. Shield or no, your reactor will still fill up although the device is meant to draw from one to the other. Reporting exploits is perfecting the game. We are all part of that, so let’s engage in that process. We’ll only make it better for everybody instead of the select few who know “ the secrets.”
  7. Heh - Now I know why I love you man.
  8. I won't vote in the poll, but I can say probably no in here. Why? I loved the game and they shut it down. Okay - so nothing in life is guaranteed, but I heard they bought the game just to get some of the code. If they did so, they probably bought the game with the idea in mind to shut it down. The fodder they offered those of us who played from the beginning was just that - fodder. Subscription to what was it? Some archaic world that had no resemblance to the only online game I had ever played. Yea, it's the community I think I enjoy most - along with the virtual productivity. No - I think I would hope emulator would live through EA's attempt to supplant it.
  9. Is there an easy explanation for how to set this up for those who have never used this type of feature? Some of you probably can do this in your sleep.
  10. There IS a problem with group navigating. I took me and my other toon on a tour, and many times I had to break group for the end-point to register. You really have to have sound on on both computers to hear that explore experience has been registered for each toon -- so if you or your buddy did not hear the confirmation, one of you did not get your nav. Of course, if the ? becomes a nav point, that point has been noted. So it's not that you need to see it on the screen that's important, it's that you need to listen. In any case, unless you are trying to map a deadly sector, don't group. Explore-point levels between high-level toons and low-level toons benifits only the higher player (who already has navs mapped) and greatly degrades the points the lower player receives.
  11. Wooooooooo Hooooooo 232 buddies before my next rank in Pogo Addiction Solitaire! OMG I HAVE lost my mind. Time to do dishes and laundry I missed playing the game. Is there even a hint as to what is wrong with the server? Seriously - yes - great job by those who have kept this game up. Amazing that we have been able to play continuously. I enjoy it tremendously and play no other multi-player games like this one.
  12. That thought has just started grinding on my mind. I've been working three toons hard, and 0hhhhhhhhhh Noooooooooooo -- there goes my mind...
  13. Guess I went to sleep just in time. Pssstttt - I think the Devs are off playing Star Trek.
  14. Yea - my PP and TT's weapons are borked, too. I think I'm firing (well one of the two of me are firing or me and that one and...) when I realize the highlight on my guns is slightly too flourescent - and I know they aren't engaged. We're getting killed. This is especially a problem when playing with a group - or fighting within a group. The problem with all weapons not reacting to the "f" key was in ST3. I always watched for that. Had to press the number key to get the relevant weapon to work.
  15. Wow – a lot of replies. I’ve been off working the Terran Trader and the Progen Trader – alternate toons (and the Trader I never took seriously except for to build) – and been having a blast. The Jenquai Explorer has finally taken a back seat. Never thought it would happen. So what have I experienced? Leveliing toons with combat and trade loot is ridiculously easy. Leveling explore and trade with a JE and mining is extraordinarily hard. Been working hard all my life and don’t need to continue that in a game. I want to have fun. And I already knew that explore in these trade/combat toons hardly mattered because I can level past trade-experience max and have the others fill any others with the overflow. These toons are fun. With “The Dance” (or The Way of the Zen ) gone from the JE, the attraction is gone. I have kept Toreava, I think, because of nostalgia. With the asteroids placed in wide circles it is hard to keep up the dance, so it is a drudge. The way the roids were set up before was perfect. I’d rather deal with a few cherry-pickers than have lost what this profession has lost. I’m working a TS which I drag behind me to clean up any asteroids or crystals (which I cannot fit in Toreava’s cargp hold.) The Clearin g Field bonus has become far too valuable with the decreased value in explore. And I’m not talking about any silly triple explore. So – perhaps I’ll drudge away with Toreava from time to time to get the ores I need for builds. I think refined ores rather than ripped ones can effect build qualities – seems to have been true in the past. I used my ores for my own builds. No more debate from me for the JE. It’s a lost cause. Been defending it too long.
  16. I ran a 150++++++++++++ JE in live. Why should I bother with patience in this class when I can do the others so easily in comparison? I lived the JE. I lived mining. I just started a Terran Explorer, and I was pulling eight or nine ores out of a single roid and hardly dented my reactor. And the roids were sort of diverse, but there were plenty of one kind so I could mine within my limitations in regards to cargo space. And the extra space in a Terran Explorer's cargo hold is HUGE. And a combat JE? I had all the bells and whistles on my JE last time around and I still melted when a level 66 looked at me sideways. Warriors blink and level 66s are dead. It's nice to know that the asteroid problem is a problem that is being looked at by you and yours, Kenu. But the old standards coupled with these problems are providing funeral arrangements for my JE. From the time I was a Westwood beta on down the line, I've seen more negative "tweaking" with the JE profession than with others. Better to be a warrior class and be done with it -- sneak a few miners on the side that I won't take seriously. I'm sure some of you remember the tremendous uproar with tweaks done on the warrior classes in live and in Westwood beta. We seem to defend the professions in which we play as if they are real life. Even in real life, I can abandon a losing cause. May have taken me years to do it, but I can abandon the Jenquai Explorer. I'll keep the toon I have and leech off her for what wormholes I have acquired. The JE is truely a "service" class.
  17. I was finally able to start my JE toon after fixing my machine. I was shocked at what I found in the newb area. Leveling explore has dragged to a molasses pace. A guildy defined it better than me: Slow respawn Too many different kinds of roids packed into the mining area. (Cargo hold cannot take all these varieties at once.) And a few other things that I forget, but people can add. (Been up with my dog and puters, so am too tired to remember.) Have people been complaining about the JE training area? I don’t remember seeing any complaints about this area. So if it wasn’t broke, why was it tampered with? I can’t bring up a command prompt to manipulate how I play. I’m stuck with what is there. My first reactions were emotional. The Jenquai Explorer has always been my main toon. The act of mining I’ve always called, “The Dance.” It’s a mesmerizing process – relaxing in itself. With the new field clearing bonuses, the spawns have been dragging. Mining has become far more of a competition than it ever was before. There is no need for a field-clearing bonus if it makes roid spawns concurrent rather than consecutive. What you gain with field clearing you lose with slow spawn or traveling between roid fields. There goes “The Dance.” Think of it in terms of combat in the warrior newb areas. Make it so: Mobs don’t spawn unless they are all killed. Mobs don’t spawn unless all carcasses are cleaned out. Mobs don’t spawn individually, but are dependent on all mobs being killed. And then there is the time you need to add for resetting mob spawn. Make it take minutes. Let people sit there in the newb areas and wait for spawns. Then: Take the loot and diversify it so those small cargo holds can’t possible stack more than ten items before they have to redock and sell. That’s what has happened to the Jenquai Explorer Now if there is some discussion relative to eliminating the JE. Just do it. There’s no real need to delay it. You’ve created soooo many interesting professions that the JE becomes unnecessary. I especially found it to be a disappointing profession after my determined attempt to make mine combat effective last go round.
  18. I reformatted my 2007 machine and reloaded Vista in order to have a clean install of Windows 7 Ultima on my machine. Things weren’t quite going right, so this was necessary regardless. But I was excited – I was going to be able to see if EnB would get past Megan with a clean install of Vista. I thought it was possible. After hours and hours of downloading and getting past the service patch 2 install, I was ready. I reinstalled EnB from my game disc, patched the program and did all the authorizations required. Bam – I got past Megan. I couldn’t believe it. I was wowing at myself for being correct in my assumption. I made it to character creation. I quickly closed out Earth & Beyond and scampered into the Starship Creator. Made my toon and away I went. Clicked EnB icon, saw Megan in my sights and fed in my password. Hit enter and found myself roaring with laughter as I slammed to the desktop. With some of these Vistas Megan loses the bridge from password enter to character database. I introduced the Ultima upgrade and everything works fine. Hope this helps.
  19. I see from in some posts there is a new DNS. Can someone post it here?
  20. What I do 1.) If a nav is camped, I move on. Very rarely have I aimed my guns and shot something if someone is camped looking for a specific mob. 2.) Am vocal about being camped at a nav or location if some show up looking for the same mob. Probably piss some people off when I do this, but It’s my idea of fair. 3.) Try like Hell not to cherry-pick roids. Of course, a slipup once or twice is possible, and that is probably the one or two times anyone has chastised me on this issue. 4.) I don’t kill/steal, but if someone comes to a nav I am camping and I tell them I am waiting for a mob that drops something I am looking for, I’ve had no qualms about shooting at what I’m after regardless of who’s shooting what. 5.) Been vocal about language, but realized it is my perception and not always the perception of others. It’s not my place to play babysitter for any kids that might be around. That’s the job of others and it’s up to them to decide what will be tolerated or not be tolerated. 6.) Been vocal about multi-boxing and macroing, but I realize I can play more and some macroing can level the playing field for others. Again – it’s the job of others to decide what will be allowed. What I intend to do. I’m sticking to 1 through 4, and the other two are dead issues for me. I can always change my mind about how my perceptions can affect others, and I am only there to play a game. . I may start multi-boxing myself to be able to compete.
  21. For me, this player wipe has value. I get stuck in a rut trying to do what I want to do with a profession I can’t do it with. Hey – what can I say – I don’t play many games like this. I found myself getting bored. Yes, bored. There’s a fine group of people exploring how to expand this game. I say let it grow. It helps me grow within the game. Helps push me to explore other professions and find out what they do. I found I love the Progen Privateer. Will do that next time with some vengeance – not all. We tend to lean toward what we know. Try going places you haven’t before and let this wipe be the start of that kind of process.
  22. Yep -- Never thought I would look forward to a wipe, but some parts of me are. Here we go again. I'll miss the ability to roam as I was able to do.
  23. And I just saw the server wipe info. Ah well... I had enough time to roam the game and figure out what I want to do next time. I'll stick with Toreava and I'll do a Progen Privateer and my Terran Trader right of the bat. As I moved further and further from training camps, I realized, (this time) that there was information on areas that I should have kept. Some of you that have been in the other stress tests probably already know this. I plan to keep logs this time. Hey -- been great fun, and the Devs/GMs/Betas have done a great job keeping this going.
  24. Just figured I'd poke this back up so those who know anything or even don't know anything can post. Found info in other topics in other parts of forum, but I found it easier in here. STO starts today?
