Issue while playing game

Recommended Posts

Firstly, I would love to express my excitement for being able to continue this game. I have been on and off this server for YEARS since like 2009 or so, never really had any issues with the game that I couldn't work out or work around, but this one kind of has me stumped.

This may entirely be on me, however, when in game, I can talk to NPCs and interact with the environment while piloting my ship (ie: target nav points, target MoBs or resources) but when I afk for anytime longer a minute, I come back and I can no longer interact with anything. If I talk to an NPC it zooms the camera in like normal, but the dialogue never appears, if I try targeting things, I can here the click as if I am targeting, but it doesn't appear on my target box in the lower right.

I am currently running:

Again, this could just be an AFK timer in game, or it could be too new of a system to properly run, but any help would be appreciated.

Also, not sure where to put this as Technical didn't really seem to be the place, but if it needs to be moved then okay. :D

Thanks for everything folks!

Update: After some more playing, I decided to see what would happen if I just left the dialogue zoom alone when the dialogue wasn't appearing. After a few minutes (maybe 3 minutes) it would proceed with Dialogue. But being as I was unsure what was going on I tried clicking out of the dialogue box and then I anytime I spoke to another NPC in the base I was in (Progen Sentinel starting Base) it would zoom in then immediately leave as though I cancelled. I attempted to leave the star base to see if re-loading would help, but got stuck on the Loading Screen after departing the base forcing me to close via Task Manager.

I will attempt to capture the entirety of these events in a recording as it seems replicable on my end for anyone who is interested.

Another Update: After even more testing, it appears to be related to being AFK. I played for an hour or so today without issue, but the moment I leave my character idle for longer than 1 minute, the server fails to react to my character's interactions.

I played some yesterday as well and experienced the same results. I can fly for long distances just fine between gates, I can be in a star base talking to everyone no issues, fighting MoBs out wherever, but if I leave my keyboard to get a drink/use the bathroom and come back, suddenly I am unable to interact with anything. I try to log to character screen or log out entirely, the message shows in the chat box stating I am logging out, but nothing happens, forcing me to open task manager and kill the process.

For now, I will try my best to stay at the machine while playing, but if there is an AFK time out or something, perhaps it could be increased a bit? But I feel it may have more to do with my end, unless anyone else has experienced anything similar and could offer some insight.

Thanks again,

Vincent,

Welcome back bro.

I've known several people have had the same problem, myself included.

This would piss "Meoff" joke intended, and not want to play the game.

I purchased a new modem that cleared up my isues right away. I would "timeout" chars that would be idle inside bases but wouldn't if they were outside siting etc....

Not sure if you rent or own your modem from your local provider but inquire on that.

Also, if someone is more tech savvvvvvvy than myself, they can offer other solutions.

Thanks,

J

This sounds more like the connection is letting itself be idle. When dealing in UDP the communication has to keep active most of the time, this is one of the reasons mobile hotspots aren't great for playing because they are trying to idle connections with battery saver techs.

For Win11 assuming the above isn't true and it isn't a laptop make sure you have a constant power supply and set your power settings to performance (at least while you play). I'd give it a try at any rate. I can leave my desktop computer sitting for hours with me logged in in space OR on a station but UDP is pretty unforgiving about closing connections. It's not capable of providing a state so if there is no communication from host in x amount of time, then close connection.

Thank you both for the responses. For clarity, I am using a laptop and it is wireless, so the connection becoming stale/dropping may indeed be a culprit. All in all, it hasn't been a major hinderance, just a minor inconvenience.

For now, I will continue to on with it. If for whatever reason I stumble across some miracle of resolution, I will update again and let everyone know.

For now, I will consider this matter closed and will see you all at Net 7!
