  1. I'll only say that characterization of what I'm saying is different than what I mean. Do you have evidence that something like that happened, or are you just stating it because of the way something worked out? All i've done so far is read this thread, and it looks like an allegation, and a fight over some loot. Something we should all be familiar with from the live game and from other games.

My anecdotal references were to blatant and OBVIOUS abuse of power once it was uncovered. Every time a GM creates an item, it's tagged. Every time they utilize their powers to do something a normal player cannot do, it's also tagged. Given that Woody has been HGM as long as he has, and he's practically the only game master, it gives me pause on considering this likely.

I'm willing to accept something and look into it, as I always have been. That said, time is more precious now than when I was in college and my only worries were studying, so having my chain yanked and having to spend that kinda time to track something down and find nothing is probably going to annoy me a little. Suppose you feel sure that something is going on and have something besides vinegar for each other, PM me. Please don't make me waste time on squabbles.

  2. I will throw out here for those reading that 'castanet' is tied into the updating software they used in the past, it is installed with the game (I think, or at least the demo), and will not affect whether someone could log in. The game will for sure also run on Windows 11 just fine. Although with each new OS rev, it is getting trickier because the game does not observe modern security standards, and because EA has never released the code for the client, we're technically doing wrong if we start reverse engineering it too much.

I don't know what .castanet is but I don't think you need it, I would uninstall that.

It looks like you're using the wrong launcher. You need to run Launch Net-7.

  3. I'm going to break this down since there's a suggestion of an abuse of power.

An Abuse of power would be like something we had back in the beta days, where a GM created a ton of loot for someone they were friends with, with no risk/events run to earn it. Or like a past dev we had that created an absolute shitton of mineable asteroids in a location that wasn't easy to find if you didn't know about it. We discovered this after the sheer number of roids caused it to impact the sector's performance. That became apparent from the logs, and that person was removed, which led to us adding a tag when a GM creates an item that we can see, which will tell us if they're doing bad things or creating a lot of items.

A GM deciding to transfer a piece of loot is reasonable to me as long as they've heard everyone's side involved first. They call them game masters for a reason. They are allowed to do anything except directly abuse players/break the code of conduct, shut down the game server, or run dev-level commands that are beyond them. I would also note that this isn't just something we would generally do because a player requested it, and this person is no different, presumably. It also leaves a trail as above, so I would be able to trace a pattern if I had to.

This being said, you all have the option to ignore each other if the dislike is that intense; this shouldn't require a staff intervention in terms of banning someone based on what I'm seeing here. Still, I would also point out that we keep notes on folks' accounts when things are reported, so we can get an accurate idea of what people are doing and whether they deserve it.

Since it's such a relatively small community and no one pays subs or gets paid (on the 'staff' side), we give quite a lot more leeway when it comes to basic infractions. For someone to be banned, they must have a serious history, and even then, it's usually a temporary ban; we don't permanently ban anyone without a compelling reason.

Lot of words short to say, if someone wants to explain to me why the GM giving loot was an abuse, then i'm happy to hear it, but I can only read so much of this thread cause it's mostly attacks against each other and I'm not going to crawl back to ancient logs (2+ weeks) to try to figure out who's being untruthful and who isn't. If someone has gathered the trigger, for the most part, I would agree that they should get the say on where the loot goes.

For a situation where things have been agreed upon up front and by all attendees, if you feel like some ninja looting went down, then you can try to handle it among yourselves or open a ticket where we can look into it. I would warn you that, because staff time is limited, this option may mean a wait and not instant service.

I would also warn several of you reading this thread that you need to be sure you're familiar with the rules, as these forums still qualify to be under them. You can communicate somewhat like adults, I'm sure.

  4. Ok I'll try a full on maintenance either tonight or this weekend as time permits it. We'll see if this remediates it. Is it always specific sectors? The game server restart would usually fix something like that because it reloads everything from the database on start up.

The "server" is wacky atm. Of course not sure which of the 4 components needs attention but here are some OUR observations this afternoon:

When the server nears or exceeds 20 players, toons get logged off.

I can get a toon logged in, then a second one, but within minutes the first one is hung.

Some can use the terminals and vendors, but their toon can't been seen by other toons. Then eventually hang

Can only stay logged in for 3 - 5 minutes , TOPS , then the toon hangs.

    Thank you for your consideration.

The beauty of it is, me either until I look—Schroedinger's game server.

I'll see if it needs a restart or what's going on.

Net-7 launcher says the server is up, but I get "Server Failed to respond to Login attempt".

Not seeing any issues here. Admittedly it's the next day and all but show 56 online and was able to log in myself.

So yes please , the server needs to be restarted, IT is the problem for this issue.

I've been playing this emu since it was in Stress Test 2 , so I kinda know whats up here.

Just FYI, this is not a qualifier for diagnosing this. About four different components can be involved in this, and it's not always the "server." What you all see as 'the server' is just an exe running on one of the boxes.

At any rate, it should be fixed now.

  8. I don't see why it wouldn't if you had it elsewhere, I do not think it has any of your personal information or login related details either way, just has to be of a certain version and format.

That said, it's odd if you reset updates and it's saying it cannot find that. That is available on the patching location I'm pretty much 100% certain but Ill double check this evening.
