    April 6th - 4:45 AM EST

    • Updated the proxy to add more logging around Client<->Proxy connection initialization.

    April 6th - 5:07 AM EST

    • I'm going crazy. Also updated the proxy - I rewrote the code for Client<->Proxy connection initialization.

This log was actually very very valuable. It exposed another MT race condition which seems to have been causing lots of other problems as well.

Fixed in latest proxy update (Will be pushed about ~10 minutes after this reply - I saw that the server crashed and had to fix that bug as well and reboot the server).

    Thanks!

    Edit: Update pushed.

Known issue. VT has some weird problem that causes a client crash on the PTR server. There is a notice in the "Read This!" post to avoid this sector in the PTR for now.

    Thanks!

don't spose we could run both live and PTR at the same time, or will that interfere with testing ?

This is fine, the launchers and servers are isolated from each other.

    Thanks for the help!

Unfortunately it looks like the proxy somehow got closed/exited before the log was finished writing so the bottom of the log was missing and I couldn't identify the cause.

First time this has happened, hoping it doesn't happen again.

Edit: Pushing update to always flush the log to disk so this can't happen.

    Thanks for the report.

  6. April 5th - 3:00 AM EST

    • Swapped out the L9 RR for a L8 RR in the TT starter kit.
    • Swapped out an Archos for a Zenrei Cannon in the Progen starter kit.
    • Updated "/ptrenableskills" to set the player's skillpoints to 1000 again. - DEPRECATED
    • Fixed a proxy bug that was causing it to use up 100% of a cpu core and linger around for a little after the client was exited.
    • Updated "/ptrsetupcharacter" to automatically max all of the player's skills.
    • Added new command "/ptrmaxskills" to max skills on existing characters (before this update).
    • Added new command "/ptrshownavs" to discover all navs in the current sector. This should make it easier for players to get around initially.

    April 5th - 6:30 AM EST

    • Updated the proxy to fix a bug where, if the proxy was closed to soon, the log file would not finish writing to disk.

    April 5th - 4:20 PM EST

    • Updating the proxy to add additional logging around a troublesome piece of code related to sector transitions. You will start seeing larger proxy log files now, but it's necessary.

    April 5th - 7:45 PM EST

    • Updated the proxy to add additional logging to Client-specific communication.

    April 5th - 8:45 PM EST

    • Updated "/ptrsetupcharacter" to now give 9,999 RD faction.
    • Added new command "/ptrfaction" to set your RD faction to 9,999.

    April 5th - 10:20 PM EST

    • Updated the proxy to fix possible multi-threading related issues that logs exposed that has lead to gate crashes.
    • Fixed a problem where the starter kit items placed in Vaults were disappearing after logging out.

Time permitting I'd be happy to help test.

I have noticed an idle disconnection issue that is much more prevalent on my windows7 machines than on windows 10, can check that out.

Also is this more than just turning off prototype reorder in the net-7 loader, which is a sure-fire way to cause regular gate/login crashes?

I already have a host of well geared level 150 characters on my 9 game accounts, and can do multibox stress testing too.  I'm hoping they can jsut be cloned over rather than having to spend time setting up whatever gear you supply test  server characters with.

    -Z

The changes we are making are much more involved than any of the Launcher settings are, which is why we have a separate server for testing.

The PTR server and Sunrise server are completely isolated from each other and your account/characters cannot be copied across the servers. When you create a character on the PTR server, though, you are given max level, max hull, all skills (without having to do missions), and a set of Level 8/9 gear to get you up and running; there's really not much that you have to do to get characters set up.

As my previous post stated, the way that we collect data from the PTR isn't really friendly for multi-boxing and would likely require somewhat significant changes to your multibox scripts to still allow us to collect data from problems that occur.

If this is still something that you would be interested in helping us with, though, then please send me a private message on the forums and I'll set you up.

    Thanks.

I will test tonight and tomorrow with multiple accounts.

Currently, the way that we collect data from PTR testing only works with one account logged in at a time.

I'm going to send you a private message with instructions to get into the PTR. Thank you for stepping forward to help us out!

  9. Instructions to access the PTR:

    • Download LaunchNet7-PTR.exe (attached to the bottom of this post) and place it into it's own folder. It doesn't matter where you choose to put it, but it must be placed into it's own folder.
    • Register a PTR game account at https://ptr.net-7.org:80
    • Run LaunchNet7-PTR
      • At the top, click Browse and point it to client.exe in <E&BInstall/release/client.exe> (This is the same path as in the normal Launcher)
      • Make sure that your Local IP is correct in the drop-down menu below (You can check what you use in the normal Launcher as well)
      • Once it has finished downloading initial files/updating you should be good to launch.

If you get an error about MSVC120.dll or similar missing:

    • Download and run "vcredist_x86.exe" (attached to the bottom of this post.

    Setting up your character(s):

    • Since the current PTR goals involve frequent travel and raiding we have created a command to help you set your character up for the content. Once you've created a new character, use "/ptrsetupcharacter"; this will give you level 150, max all of your skills, fully upgrade your hull, and drop some high-level equipment in your inventory.
    • Ammo samples for your starter weapons are placed in your vault in addition to non-purchaseable comps for your ammo. Use these to create more ammo for yourself.

    Some useful stuff:

    • You start out with 9,999 Chavez & Red Dragon faction (after ptrsetupcharacter), but if you need more then you can use "/ptrfaction" again to set them back up to 9,999.
    • The PTR has a special sector which contains space vendors for some commonly needed items such as raid triggers and various mission-locked equipment. You can find the gate to this sector in Saturn (Ancient PTR Gate).

    Current Goals of the PTR:

    • Extensive testing of raids (stressful, lots of packets) and trade runs (sector transition has always been problematic).
      • If you want to just jump around different sectors exploring, that'll work too. We just threw in trade runs because we need to test sector transitions.
    • We are looking to eliminate lag and disconnects (crash-to-login/desktop/etc) from all sources.

If you encounter lag, crashes, or lock-ups:

    • Fully exit out of the client and create a new thread with the proxylog.dat file attached before you re-launch the game. This file contains a log of everything the game was trying to do when the problem occurred and is crucial to helping us identify and fix the causes of network issues and other bugs.
      • You can find the proxylog.dat file in the same folder as LaunchNet7-PTR.
      • When creating your post, please provide the following information:
        • Roughly how long you were playing before the problem occurred.
        • What you were doing at the time that the problem occurred ("Gating from X to Y", "Docking at station X", etc).
      • Note that you won't really be able to compress the log file (it's encrypted with high entropy), so if you're over your attachment limit then you might try uploading it somewhere else or just simply explaining what type of crash you encountered (straight up client crash to desktop, stuck at loading screen, etc).

    About multi-boxing

    • We do not and will not support multiboxing, especially on the PTR. If you decide to try multiboxing on the PTR then please launch each client from a separate LaunchNet7-PTR folder. If you launch multiple clients from the same folder we will not be able to gather your log file which helps us diagnose any problems.

Hello, welcome to the Emulator! We definitely still have people actively playing, even though the Forums may be quieter these days.

Now, let's address your login problem:

Your Forum account is separate from your game account(s) in the way that your game account(s) are linked under your Forum account.

In order to play you're going to need to create a game account:

    • Visit https://net-7.org
    • At the top under "Account", or on the left, click Login and log into the portal using your Forum credentials
    • Once you're logged in you'll want to go to the Account menu at the top and click "Add game account" in the drop-down menu.
      • FIll out the form and click Register; this will be your in-game login.

If you need help with anything else, feel free to create a thread in our Support Forums or send a message.

    See you in space!

    Dear Friends:

I expect to be out of game beginning April 4 for "some" days.  Time away depends on what the surgeon discovers when he opens me up.  I've some nerve issues in my left arm which are becoming worse over time.

While they "think" the problem is localized to my elbow, it is also possible that direct inspection will determine that the nerve farther up is not responding properly -- in which case they close the elbow and do a detailed imaging sequence looking for spinal issues in my neck.  [oh, lovely].

At the least, I expect to be out a few days due to pain meds and inability to use left arm.  [I hate pain meds -- they interfere with my mental processing.  The mild buzz of one beer is about all i can handle.]

Well, I've little choice -- I'd like my fingers and hand to still be working in a decade -- and if nothing is done, they likely won't be.

[Thankfully, I live in the US so the wait time to do this "not immediately essential" surgery is a couple of weeks, not months; and paying for the procedure will not be denied due to my retired status and pushing toward elderly age (unemployed old folks don't really need two well functioning hands, do they?  Well, I'd not want to put that question to the NHS since I know they don't think wet macular degeneration in one eye is worth treating if you're elderly {I bet there's an exception to this for politicians}).]

I hope your surgery goes well and that you recover quickly!
