1.
well ... I guess it would be a very symbolic way of executing somebody - every man and every woman is a star - from the stars we come (literally, every molecule/atom in your body other than the hydrogen is from an exploding star), it would be returning to the source kind of.
Don't get all Carl Sagan on me - I'm still drinking my coffee. =)
I would imagine it would be a pretty quick way to go too. Is it worse than delivering the prisoners to DCO to be put on that torture chair?
Or how about being acid-burned alive by chem ammo or plasma before being blown up in space? Let's face it: we're all *guilty*! =)
But, to be honest I hadn't really thought about the ethics. Maybe it's a job that only comes up very occasionally. Maybe it's not really appropriate.
RE: Appropriate. See above. We've all killed tens of thousands of things on each "toon". Admit it: we're killers. =)
Perhaps, rather than dropping prisoners into the stars we could be fulfilling wishes of people to have their ashes scattered into a star? Maybe the ashes of war criminals after they've been tortured to death at DCO?
Scattering ashes is fun, but....nah. You know why? Because I want something with the Wilhelm scream. When you launch a pod into the sun, you should get a Wilhelm as an added bonus. And as thousands of prisoners are taken to Onorom each day, it should be a regular job! I don't see anything wrong with it. Seriously, we go around massacring miners, free spacers, red dragons, chavez, zen's - you name it, we've killed it. We all have. Over and over again. How on earth (and beyond!) is this any different? It isn't, I'm sorry to say. So let's have it. For those unfamiliar with a Wilhelm, it's the most famous scream of all (really!). Read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilhelm_scream And you can listen to it here: http://www.freesound.org/people/Syna-Max/sounds/64940/
Hmm. These and other questions I'll leave you guys to ponder ...
I hope that I've answered your questions. =) P.S. RE: Spa
[background=rgb(51, 51, 51)]Nice responses Savanna, saved me typing a reply, and I think we do trade bio weapons from a vendor somewhere
[/background] [background=rgb(51, 51, 51)]Thank you! =) And yes, I thought so too but I can't remember from where.[/background]
 2.
Really? Of all the possible trade jobs you want to space people into a star and receive trade xp for it?
Yes.
What trade xp would their be in this as you would not be transporting anything or making anything?
I believe I did say it would be exploration, as it's similar to transporting and deploying satellites.
Personally I would believe that executions would no longer be needed with unlimited resources and space (such as exists in EnB).
So why do you carry guns on your ship and fight pirates who want to steal your stuff?
Additionally I find it kind of offensive that people would be killed by being dropped into a star. Being burned alive would in no way be considered a painless way to die.
I find this absolutely hilarious. How many ship fires did you start before blowing them up on Chavez, miners, or other things? How many innocent bio-forms did you execute simply to kill them for their parts, when they appear to be as intelligent as dolphins? You mean to tell me that the only thing you've massacred for parts, loot, and XP are drones and things which attacked you first?
How about trading sex slaves, bio weapons, or destroying a system's star/annihilating all life in a system? That would be some killer 'trade xp' too.
One thing at a time. I haven't had my breakfast or coffee yet.
 3. Interesting replies, but you guys need to vote in the poll above. =P
 4. Hey everyone, I have a new trade job idea for level 105 or so. It's real simple: instead of Prisoner Delivery to Detention Center, you do a Prisoner Execution. Pick them up in a capsule at Detention Center, and fly to Glory's Orbit close to the sun. Then you space'em. Add a "Wilhelm Scream" in there for good measure (it's open source!). You'll be helping as a deputized executioner to clean up the scum of the system and you can take out your revenge on all the baddies who beat you up in school or tortured puppies when they were young! =D Yes, it's a serious idea! I think it's a great run and a great cause. After all, some of those RD guys in there must have done horrible things and I would love to space'em for trade XP! Or you can make it an explore job to give you both explore AND trade! =) Note: I'd have done VT sun as it's hotter, but it's too easy to get to for obvious reasons. So Glory's Orbit it is! Please let me know what you think of my awesome new Job idea and sound off if you think it's a good one! =D
 5. Kyp: Well said, and thank you for saying it. As somebody who has taken care of stuff online for other people for years, I know exactly what it's like to get bitched at for doing a job that people apparently merely expect you to do, as if it was their due. FireRibs: Shut the bloody hell up. Please. You actually are grilling a dev on what he or she is doing with their personal time? Excuse me? Who the hell are you to even ask such inherently insulting questions? I can tell you that if I was a dev, and you were grilling me on my personal life in public like that, I'd have kicked you out on your ass. You may not like that the server was down all day, but that's tough. Post something funny to ease the wait and do something else for a while. I did. Frankly, as somebody who has been on the receiving end of that kind of crap for years now, I think you should count yourself lucky that you're even here. If this was Second Life, and you were bitching on my sim about the way that I spend my private time with friends and family, I'd have banned your ass. Hell, I'd have banned it and muted you so I wouldn't have to listen to you complain. You crossed the line. Legitimate criticism is fine, but you went way out there. You might as well have been demanding a breakdown of a dev's morning routine, their work routine, what they were doing every second of the day, and their actual reasons for living a life outside of your game time. You sounded like a frigging inquisitor. I was going to bitch you out last night, but I was so tired with working all morning, all day, and all night on learning Objective-C that I didn't want to bother. But this morning, after reading over your venomous tripe once more, I can't resist the bloody urge. Next time, if you have to ask somebody something about their daily routine, don't be such an insulting jackass about it. By the way, I don't think I even voted you down yesterday while you were moaning and complaining about it. I'm new to the boards. But I'm not new to online communities. You deserve more than a vote down, sir.
 6.
Went to work at 7am this morning.. Server crashed around 730. Got home an hour ago, fed cats. Server now up. Would love to be able to work on the project full time, but I need money to live:(. Rolo
Well: 1) Thank you very much for everything. =) 2) Sounds like you need to scroll up and listen to that soothing elevator music which I posted. =)
 7. I just want to go on record that you can thank me for my little elevator trick. It appears to have summoned the right kind of positive feedback on the server which we were all looking for. =D
 8. Heh. I'm usually really, really, active on G+. Around November or December last year, I was far too busy to post because I was moving at the time, so I put up a video of elevator music which I would find every day on YouTube to let my readers know I'm still around, but temporarily indisposed. Ever since then, it's sorta become a little repeated joke of mine anytime I get too busy to post much. =)

 11. Pardon my ignorance, but what is T.P.T.B. ?
 12. How do they "unlock the door" if they're inside the server? Isn't it just the login server that needs to be restarted?
 13.
 14. What happen? ... Somebody set up us the bomb? ...
 15. Nevermind! I looked around and found that Virtualbox has some pretty bad graphics drivers overall. So I decided to look into my boxes (I just moved) and find VMWare again. I found it this morning and installed it, got the update, and everything works great. No more graphics glitches. So this is my setup, just in case anyone wants to know: MacBook Pro running latest Lion OS X VMWare 4 Windows 8 Preview (latest one) Running E&B perfectly fine. No glitches at all so far as I can tell (apart from the occasional gating crash)
 16. Update: I got it working with Windows 8 Preview on a Virtual Box on my MacBook Pro. Works great. =) Only, it does have a graphical glitch that I'm wondering if a dev might be able to help with. I can't see characters at all, and parts of mobs are not drawn/missing. Also, backgrounds (transparencies) on maps and info screens don't show up (the words are all there as are the widgets so I can function totally fine). Any clues? Would love to get some feedback. Thanks. =)
 17. This is probably a silly question, and I know this is an old thread, but has anyone tested it on Windows 8 Preview 32 bit? Or should I install the 64 bit Windows? That's a bit overkill for me as I'm using it on a VM, but I'm curious if anyone has any updated info about this. =)
 18.
Not sure if this will help, but originally, E&B also used the following ports: Port 21 - Patcher Port 80 - Client Port 443 - Account Login Port 3805 - Worldserver Login Ports 3000-4000 - Gameplay However, with your "lock ports" option ticked, I would imagine these ports above are not used anyway. Other ideas: If you have "packet optimization" checked in the launcher window, UN-check it. Your ISP/network may not support the larger packets. Perhaps you're behind a firewall (or firewalls) at work that are preventing your access? Are you on a Win7 system? If so, are you installing/running the launcher as an administrator? Good luck, hope you can get things resolved.
Thanks =) Well, I've given up trying to connect from my work connection. Looks like UDP and tons of ports are closed. I tend to connect from work now with my 3G key, it's just very laggy. But that's ok…I don't tend to level or anything from work because I have too much to do. I just like to chat sometimes or maybe run around from time to time when I have a break here and there from doing work stuff. =)
 19. Ok, I had the IT guy open those ports up for me and it still doesn't work. When I launch the launcher, it checks if sunrise.net-7.org is up and it says offline. Lock ports is checked, those ports are open (not sure about UDP...should I ask?). I can ping sunrise.net-7.org just fine and get a reply, but the launcher doesn't see it. I'm not exactly sure what's wrong at this point. It works great from home, I've been playing the last two nights in a row. But from work, there doesn't seem to be a way to reach it at all. Any suggestions would be welcome. =)
 20.
hi, if you've got locked ports, the best thing you can do is switch on the 'lock ports' switch in the launcher. This *very slightly* increases your lag, probably not noticably so. However it does mean that E&B will only use one port for the majority of comms. With 'lock ports' active, the ports you need to forward are: 3805 3806 3808 I'm not sure about port 443, although you *may* be able to get in with the 'local cert' option if you're not running anything that uses SSL or port 443. Note that local-cert is not recommended if you can get in without it, as you can only run one client per computer if you do use it. There are other disadvantages to local cert as well, like sometimes it will stop working if you start running a service that blocks it - sometimes without realising.
Thank you! =) So I can have my IT guy open those for me, click on "Lock Port" on the launcher, and that should work? I included 443 in the list. Does he have to open UDP or something?
 21. Hi there. =) I've read several topics on port forwarding for EnB for people whose ports are blocked, or UDP is blocked, or both. I couldn't really understand what to do and the tutorials I found online for it are a bit complicated. I'm wondering: Could somebody please post in a clear way: 1) What ports should be opened 2) What protocols other than UDP should be open, if any 3) How to set up port forwarding with UDP and other necessary protocols (if any) to a, let's say, outside Linux Debian/Ubuntu server on a remote site that a person has access to? 4) If doing this will mess up your network on your client side every time you want to do something else? IE: I start setting this up and then the next day, I'm trying to surf the web normally and it's still using my SSH Tunnel, or how does that work exactly? =) Any information would be very useful and thank you for any help in advance. =)
 22. It does void the warranty. What you must be thinking of is the ruling recently that jailbreaking is not illegal. That is true. But it does void your warranty.
 23. Ok I'll be on in a few hours. I take it you're "Kyp" on the server?
 24. I remember about 9 months ago when I first came here, I posted asking if I could help with 3D stuff in any way. I had an international move and a new job since then, but I still do stuff at night and on weekends creating stuff in 3D in Second Life, where I have a line of products since years. I'm wondering if/how I could help. I use Maya, and I've been using it for over ten years now. I'm mostly good at modeling/texturing/rendering. In SL, I'm also known for my particle work which can be translated into Maya as well (different systems but I'm not bad in Maya with particles...just been a while). Any way that I could contribute? I remember most of the devs/artists use 3DSM which I don't use, but if there's any way for me to help with Maya and what I do know, I'd love to. Please let me know? =) You can email me any info if you want. summerseale --ATTT-- the googles mail. Just throwing out the offer. =)
