  1. Some good points on the explore jobs front.  The JT and JW could use better XP there.  Is it possible to remove the credit rewards from the Explore jobs, and give us back the XP?  Or is it possible to have the XP from Explore jobs be explore XP only?

Right now, the most sensible way to level explore is get to TL50 as quickly as possible and use Trade jobs to fill explore.

  2. Depends on the beam in question, some are more difficult to obtain than others.  In addition, when I looked at the L7 beams, the ones at or over 50DPS were either Energy or EMP.  If you're a Jenquai you can debuff plasma, regardless of your profession, but of the Jenquai only the Seeker can debuff energy, and only the Defender can debuff EMP, with readily available Player Made devices.  The Swimming Jaguar; however, has 49DPS at 200% quality, and all Jenquai can debuff it's damage type.

Say as a hypothetical situation, you have a mob that's slightly vulnerable to Energy, but takes normal damage from Plasma.  If you are a JT, then it makes sense to equip energy if you have beam with equal or better DPS than your plasma choices.  If you're a JE or JW; however, the Swimming Jaguar, and a Chimaera is a better choice, since they cannot use the Manticore to debuff Energy.  It's likely that in such a case, for the JW and JE, that they will actually get more DPS using a Swimming Jaguar & a Chimaera, than they would using an energy beam with 1 or 2 more DPS, even with the mob's vulnerability to energy, since they cannot use the Manticore. (I'm assuming that you also have L7 devices, and the mob's vulnerability to energy isn't greater than the vulnerability to plasma it would have after the Chimaera hits)

  3. Hello Evermore. I have a question/small request. If it isn't too much to ask, would you take into consideration of maybe adding the level 8 Chimaera's Dire Vex device to another mob(s)? Currently, it only drops at the Controller raid from my understanding. I have personally only seen this device drop twice during the past several months. If not added to another mob, then maybe adjusted somewhat in terms of drop rate?

Have to agree with this.  Same for the L9 Chimaera, just give it a much lower drop rate in alternative locations.  Neither device could be considered awesome.  Some things should be raid only, like the weapons and devices considered to be awesome, with the Devastating Gaze as an example.

  4. Will Zeke's missions, that culminate in getting the L7 Solar Sail, appear before the opening of DT?  Zeke was an NPC in a ship in Witberg, and the brother of Zach on Dahin Planet.  Those were added in the original game prior to the opening of DT.

On the Solar Sail line, can there be a L5 and L6 added at some point in the future, completing the line?  The Solar Sail 5 could have stats comparable to other L5 engines, the same can be said for the SS6 when compared to L6 engines. (no buffs, same advantages, disadvantages that the SS1-SS4 would get relative to the same level engines.)

  5. Try a new class called the Terran Scout.

^^Yeah, that.  The Prospect skill is limited to the exploration classes.  Scout, Sentinel, and JE.

To make any of the 3 classes not in the original, the Scout, Seeker, and Privateer, follow the instructions here.

  6. Post 30.  I didn't think about October before making that one.

    Points were:

    • Limited time NPC missions, where the NPC departs the game after a patch or two
    • Smuggling missions/trade routes (both outlaw & legitimate factions)
    • Tlaloc
    • Pirate gate to Paramis in Odin Rex, rather than InfinitiCorp gate
    • "gate key" missions for some of the gates that open in the future.
    • Ariad? Or who leads the Sharim.
    • Sho'da'kan Nebula, how do you make the gate yellow or green, even if it's not to open for a while.

More details in the other thread.

    New stuff:

Is Ceres/Thule sector closed for storyline reasons, or is it a sector that helps complete the Sol system?  Candy for miners?

Agrippa Stage II.  Is there a requirement for stage II devices that's different (read higher) than the ones for stage II shields, other than which build skill has to be maxed?  My PE was able to get, and pass, the stage II examination for Shields, but when she asks about devices, she's told to raise her skill.  Both of her build skills are maxed, but she's only OL 94, with a TL of 50. (can send a screenshot if necessary)

  7. For the upcoming week:

In the future can (will) there (sometimes) be non-storyline NPCs that will only be around for a limited time, like a patch or two.  Their missions being available only during that time.  Interesting rewards, for said missions, that can never be obtained after the NPC departs.  <NPC name> has departed <location> to/for regions unknown, when they leave if they're even mentioned in the patch notes.  In some cases a player may go to the NPC's location, and just find that they've left.

Who is the Sharim leader?  In EnB origins Ariad gave missions for Sharim faction, prior to the patch Merjan's Missing where she replaced Merjan as the JE leader.

Sho'da'kan Nebula, what does it take to get that non-functioning gate green or yellow to a player?  I'd imagine there's a point in the future storyline where it opens.  Could it be possible to have a mission to get it open (at the storyline appropriate time) requiring a key, as the gate to DT did, originally in EnB Origins?  Ardus may have had the same at one time, can't remember for sure.  One of the key opened gates could do ship damage if the key malfunctioned.

Same for some of the other unused gates, to be opened in the future?

Tlaloc:  Will that gate ever go anywhere, or is it decorative as it was in EnB Origins?

The gate to Paramis, in Odin Rex, is an InfinitiGate can it be replaced with a pirate gate, at some point in the future to be consistent with all other gates to or from Smuggler's Run? (I'd imagine this would be low on the priority list)

Can there be smuggling trade routes/missions in the future?  For smuggling trade runs, you'd receive better credits/XP when compared to a regular trade run where the items are of the same level or value.  For smuggling missions you could get a positive faction reward, along with Trade & Explore XP.  If you get caught smuggling the mission fails & you'd get a faction penalty with whomever catches you.  Reward or penalty would be of similar amount of faction.  If you're caught, whatever you were smuggling gets taken from you.

For smuggling missions the NPC that you need to smuggle to, would spawn in the sector you need to find him (her) in.  You would not be given the exact location of the NPC.  At most you'd get the sector the NPC is in, at the most difficult you'd get the system and nothing more. NPCs would spawn at a random location in the sector, as would patrols looking for smugglers.  Patrols would have fairly wide ranges (much more than mobs) and if the patrols get within a certain distance of you, the mission fails.  NPCs that you're smuggling to would have low signatures (they don't want to get caught either, but they don't know that they can't be caught).  If you freewarp, you may miss the NPC, so you may have to drop out of warp to really search.  Speed buffs, scan buffs, and signature reduction buffs would be useful here.  Too little speed, or too high sig, would increase you chance of being caught, since patrols can move.  Some patrols, but not all, can see cloaked.

Pirates wouldn't be the only ones that need something smuggled from point A to point B.  Sometimes "legitimate" factions would need plausible deniability on an item being delivered from point A to point B.

There was a smuggling trade route in EnB Origins, from Chernevog to Paren, in EnB Origins.  The NPC to buy the items from was in the lobby at Chernevog, the trade good vendor in Paren accepted the goods.  The requirement for said trade run was +2000 or greater RD faction.  Less faction than that, and the NPC wouldn't tell you that the run exists.

  8. Any news on equipment for the Scout, JT, and PT?

When the MCP comes in, will it include all the rewards that were available at the Sunset of EnB Origins, or will some of those items come in at the beginning, and others later?  In the original some of the items didn't come at the beginning of the MCP, (Archos Threader, Gaze of Amah, improved reinforcer devices) but came after it was upgraded, because many explorers found the initial rewards underwhelming.

Later in the Mars Construction Project can other equipment, never seen before, be introduced? (not counting the things that will be added, at the beginning, for the Scout)

The map screen, is that coded in the client?  Can it be updated to reflect new systems, as they're added?  Also can the little pointy circle thing (not sure what it's called) that shows where you are, and are going, be made to work for BBW (Aquitane when it's added)?

Is the map thread in Game Resources accurate, to the future of the game, give or take?  I have some curiosity of what will be in places like Eidenmist Nebula, which appears to be owned by the Mordana, or Epsilon Eridani, which looks like it may be neutral.

  9. Was mining some sand at the Tazeron nav earlier today with one of my smaller JEs.  I noticed that it is guarded by CL33 mobs.  Is that intended, as guardians for an ore that's L1?  Some of the explorers who would be inclined to do the mission to obtain the Mazzaroth Keys would be low level.  They're the ones that can actually get XP for the mining involved, but they have no chance against CL33s.  Can those mobs be replaced by some that are a bit more appropriate to the ores at that nav?  I sent a bigger JE to handle the mobs there, and get the sand I needed.

  10. As of roughly 2 months ago. Speaking to said NPC did allow me a backdoor into Agrippa. It should be noted that the back door ONLY allows you to do Stage II as Stage III requires you to have done Stage I. It required the use of my gold token.

This makes me ask the following:  "If you do stage one Agrippa while it's available, don't do stage 2 or 3, then use the backdoor, could you then do stage 3 as the prerequisite stage has been done?"

  11. There were Atonement missions for the JE and TT in the next patch.

    Healing the Maelstrom patch 2/5/04

     Missions & Events

    • Added new story-related missions
    • The Elfman Triplets are back for Valentine's Day in brightly colored ships. They are offering Valentine-themed peppermint treats....except for the treats lost en route. The hours of operation will be from Feb. 12th, 9:00 am Pacific/5:00pm GMT until Feb. 16. - 9:00 am Pacific/5:00pm GMT.
    • As the story evolves, certain missions may become expired as they are no longer relevant or possible.
    • The Level 50 hull upgrade missions have been removed from the game.
    • Attention all former InfinitiCorp employees! Tired of being left out of the most lucrative contracts? Feeling like you've lost your touch? Thinking about rejoining the galaxy's #1 organization? The InfinitiCorp REACH program may be just the thing for you! Contact Holly Flanders for more information about this exciting new opportunity.
    • Jenquai Explorers who have lost their affiliation with the Sha'ha'dem should seek out their old teacher, Shin-Tzu Li if they wish to regain their place among their people.
    • The Mars Construction Project is offering additional rewards to Sentinels and Explorers who assist in the war effort. Newly enhanced reinforcers are available for purchase with process passes and refunds are being given (for a limited time only) on the old versions of the item. New rewards have been added to the surplus available for distribution.
    • The sector gate to der Todesengel no longer requires a key as construction is complete!
    • The Mordana presence in Antares has increased.
    • Tersen Grosch has left Chernevog Station. Where he has gone, no one knows.
    • Gatekeeper Anguis has been reassigned to observe the Mondara Shear healing efforts in Tarsis.
    • The migration of the Draconis Hatchling has begun again after a lapse of 250 years. A Pilot's Advisory from the Glenn Commission warns that the hatchlings are extremely curious and tend to be attracted to areas of activity for reasons scientists don't understand. Nearly hunted to extinction by fleets of combatants during the last migration cycle, Draconis Hatchlings were responsible for the deaths of thousands of pilots. Yet, nothing of monetary value has ever been developed from the bits and pieces that remain after one is killed. You're advised to avoid these critters as they are dangerous when angered.

My guess is that being booted from your affiliation wasn't obvious beyond not being able to land on your station, targeting window no longer displaying a faction, and the faction adjustments that would go with losing your starting faction modifiers.  The warrior classes may have followed, but the patch mentioned above, is the last patch from EnB Origins.  It was also the patch where Compulsory Contemplation was introduced.  Had we got another patch in April, perhaps the TT would have gotten their Affiliation skill, since the PE got theirs in one patch, the JE the next.

  12. From the patch notes for Merjan's Missing. 12/09/03

    Missions & NPCs

    • As the story evolves, certain missions may become expired as they are no longer relevant or possible.

    • It's annual review time at Net-7. All Net-7 correspondents have been asked to report to Jan Blather at Net-7 SOL for feedback on their efforts.

    • Citizens of the galaxy are urged to register their genetic patterns with the Sabine Order by visiting Arx Spartoi in Endriago Sector. Ulpia Adilla can assist you with this process and make you eligible to receive the benefits of interpolation.

    • Magna Vinda has announced a general amnesty for Sabine who have been expelled from the Order. Any Sentinel wishing to regain their affiliation with the Sabine Order should report to Tovar Maxe (Mars Beta) to begin their atonement.

    • Have a beer with the local excavator, Lyle MacDonald, in der Todesengel sector. He's friendly folk and may want to chat with you if you're the explorin' type.

    • Shou Shen at Prasad Station in Xipe Totec sector is a bit less appreciative when players "Patrol the Line" for him. The faction reward has been reduced to more accurately reflect the difficulty of the task.

    • Ayako Ravenlock has completed her research project. She's declared a moratorium on the creation of keys for the Mondara and Mazzaroth Shears. The collection of Tazeron can now cease.

  13. Okay, I understand not being able to modify the client.  Is it possible that the client already has something within that would do that automatically if a particular set of conditions are met?  Of course that makes me wonder if it's possible to set a threshold for being kicked out, or if it's coded into the client.  Also makes me wonder if the thresholds for hostile, neutral, and friendly are adjustable, or set by the client.

Does anyone who was kicked out of their faction in EnB Origins have a screenshot of your PDA saying what it says when you're unaffiliated?  Same for anyone who ever took a screenshot of someone whose faction didn't appear in the targeting window?

  14. On the being kicked out thing, I'm not talking about whether or not you can land on your faction's bases.  I'm talking about being kicked out of the faction itself, and being unaffiliated.  So in the thing on your PDA that says "You are a member of Sha'ha'dem Explorers" no longer says that.  I'm guessing it would change to something along the lines of "You are unaffiliated", or possibly just be blank.  I'm not sure that's what it said, because I didn't get kicked out of any faction during the original game, but I had seen characters in EnB Origins who obviously had been.  When you targeted them, their faction did not show up in the targeting window.

If you'd been booted from your faction, you couldn't get the L135 skills, if you were a PE or JE.  You had to not only raise your faction sufficiently, but you also had to do an "atonement" mission to be re-admitted into your starting faction.

I'm not sure if the threshold for being kicked out of your faction is the same as the threshold for being unable to land on their bases.  It wouldn't surprise me if falling to neutral was sufficient. Being unaffiliated, should cause major adjustments to your faction standings for all factions, as you'd no longer have any faction modifiers specific to your starting faction.  The faction modifiers being why a JE starts with different standings among the various factions than say a TT.

  15. The "restricted" versions of racial restrictions matter, as they also affect building, not just use.  Progen cannot build, analyze, or dismantle any item that's Progen Restricted.  Jenquai are under the same restrictions for Jenquai Restricted items.  I don't know if something that's profession restricted, rather than race restricted, would affect building.

There are pieces of equipment that are in existence that cannot be used by anyone.  The L9 Profiler is an example.  It's Terran Only, Tradesman Only.  I'm not sure, but I think that prior to launch of the original game, characters could use L9 of all 4 techs, instead of the current configuration where everyone gets 2 L9 and 2 L8 techs, varying by race & profession.  Those items simply weren't removed.  I'm not certain of that.

If at some time in the future, the devs decide to go to the everyone gets L9 of everything, though I don't see why they would, then those "Race Only" restrictions would also matter.

  16. I have an Eye of the Fang Fiend on Torrence, and find it useful.  His other 4 beams are the Ambushing Jaguar.  I don't need it on my JE or JT as they're more energy efficient.  I don't think there need to be changes to the Made to Live beam.  IIRC the devs said that the MtL beam would likely be too powerful on the JW.  I don't think that the EoFF needs to be changed, as I use it for the same reason that Alurra uses hers.  If there are to be future plasma beams with Beam Energy Conserve in the future, I might use them, but I'm okay with the EoFF as is.  If the devs were to make such a plasma beam, it should be no more powerful than beams like the Ambushing Jaguar, and have no more than 2 buffs, none of which enhance damage.  There is already an upcoming energy beam with the Energy Conserve buff, assuming it's like the original, the Sun Focus 2000.

For my JE I ultimately want to have the Gaze of Amah, Made to Live, and Ambushing Jaguar for my beams, while mining.  For dealing with ore field guardians it's more than enough for my needs, and my JT already has the requisite prints for 2 of them.  The Gaze of Amah, as far as I know, isn't in the game yet.  It's a storyline item, that's tied to the Mars Construction Project.  The 6 device slots will be filled with relatively run of the mill equipment, like a L8 Lazarus & a L7 Navigation Computer for those quick escapes. Coma & Chimaera for fighting, and probably a reduce sig buff somewhere.   The Veiled Oyoroi for the mining buffs.  For an energy setup, something different, but spectacular weapons wouldn't be needed.  Something like an SF2K, Ghosts Edge, and one other.

If there are new beams added, and similar love for the other 2 races, I think they should not rival existing equipment such as the DG or GoD.  Weapons comparable to Zets, Archos, and Pitbulls in terms of DPS, with buffs that are common to the race they're geared towards are fine in my opinion, same for other common buffs that tend to cross races.  IMO the devs made a great addition along those lines when they added the Jaguar line of beams.

Not having cookie cutter equipment is a good thing, but new rivals to the DG aren't necessary for that.

  17. Can the ability to be kicked out of your faction return.  In the original if you got your standing too low with your starting faction, you were kicked out, and your standings would be adjusted accordingly.  I'm not sure what the adjustments would be exactly, but in the original I remember seeing players who were not in their factions.   When you target a player that's unaffiliated the part that would normally say their faction, and be colored according to your standing with their faction, would be blank.

The PE & JE had "atonement" missions to regain their affiliation, as the Call Forward & Compulsory Contemplation skills had a requirement that you be in the Sabine & Sha'ha'dem factions respectively.  If the other classes eventually get L135 skills, they will also need "atonement" missions, should this be implemented.  Said missions required raising their standing sufficiently before they could be taken, upon completion their affiliation was restored.

  18. Not sure if that would work, but sounds interesting.

I think that the big problem is that the market is mostly barter, w/r/t the really good items.  If you didn't get the drop yourself, and you want a Devastating Gaze (DG), you can't trade to get a looted one, via credits.  Instead you need an item of similar value to trade instead.  If you want one built, you'll need to get your hands on the parts, or at least the things needed to make the parts.  The hard part being getting the eye.  I'm not really sure how this can be fixed, or if it can.
