  1. Actually, we in the West coast have seen another opportunity to have a date with Megan around 11:00-11:30PM Pacific time.  Lots of gate crashes and/or slow response for us West Coasters, but to a lesser extent than the real Megan hour.  I don't have anything solid, but I think it must be the time Las Vegas casinos decide to transfer their money,,,, ugh, doing their backups.  :)

Yeh westies get a slightly later Megan hour, MST and CST get a bit of it also, (I'm in MST and it starts about 9:30ish and goes to 11:30ish). Almost all the big retailers have a data pull a hour or so after closing hrs. or shift change. You can imagine the data drain on the net as a whole when retail hrs hit 11 pm on west coast from such companies as Walmart or Target etc.

Bentonville, AK.  Walmart's HQ.mega computer calls out to their computers world wide and says feed us the little bits of data that we ripped from our victims (sorry "customers") and employees (oops sorry "associates") :) Since data flow is a huge pipe, and our little bits of data if flowing through that pipe, big retailers flow tends to crowd ours out. That's even worse when ISP's "prioritize" flow, games get shunted when their big customer clients demands need meeting. Look how 1to1 does business and you can see what is going on.

  2. Well lets see about "super skill", you are asking to be able to do the following: charge any non-offensive skill and apply while cloaked "i.e. immune", be able to use any non-debuffing device while cloaked "i.e. immune". You don't find this an "inbalance" to the game dynamics?

Let's say then that all healers can say to mob, "hold on, I'm healing...it's not offensive..so don't shoot me while I'm doing it o.k.?"

Let have PS get to say "hold on, I'm powering down to heal my shields and recharge my reactor, ignore that damage I was doing earlier would ya? You know power down isn't offensive so stop shooting me!"

Let the warrior say, "yes, I know I was killing you and your buddies, but right now my turbo buff has fallen off, so lets call a time out while I switch devices and rebuff, time out!"

I'm sorry, Jenquia may be superhuman in the mental department in your mind, but to the rest of us out here, we figure cloaking and keeping the energies flowing in the proper manner to maintain cloak is taking to much of their mental acuity to distract themselves to multitask into other things, that in fact, if they get distracted doing those other things, cloak falls off.

I don't get how you don't see just how much this would be an inbalance.. you are in effect asking for a "time out AND be immune while being so" function, cloak is a time out OR a immune function, not both.

I'm sorry but as puny as my JE's are, to do a cloak and then be able to do everything else while immune from reprisal seems overpowered as much as I would like the ease of it.

  3. The old healing the shear and mars construction projects were good examples of non combat content and alternative ways to get gear.

    +1

Not to mention a additional positive resulted for all the other non-miner classes! Since the miners had to do some hard core mining to provide the sacks of ores the projects needed, they incidentally cleared fields and mined other ores as well, this created a glut in non-project needed ores, namely AMMO ORES. Since supply and demand forces went into effect... there was more supply, the price went down for ammo ores, the traders could get the ores cheaper.. they could build the comps cheaper and more plentiful, now the traders and warriors had a better supply of ammo comps and better resultant dps helped them out in their content pushs! :)

  4. Can't remember what PL does EMP off the top of my head, but I could have sworn that one or the other did EMP as one of it's dmg types, I think it was mortar, maybe shotgun, that's about the weapon range I would have used at the time in Old Live (tm). I noticed that many mobs were weak in old Live (tm) to the dmg type they put out, since the Vindis in niff gave my PS/PW fits with both the dmg they took and the energy they drained (progen had reactors that were the suckiest), I experimented a bit with differing ammo on them and indeed found that the 43-47 Vindi drones took far more dmg from Emp than what I had been using.

It's the only reason I had L1 K3 EMP comps in my vault to make that ammo.

In looking on the DB I note now that there aren't k3 emp packs/cartridge as I remember..perhaps I'm not remembering right. A cartridge would have been for a PL ammo and the pack for a ML ammo. That's consistant for every ammo except one of the tengu ammos that is reverse.

Does anyone else remember using EMP PL ammo? It was very rarely used....maybe I'm confusing it with my TE and his missles, same situation EMP was very situational in use.

  5. Ok, so Jenny are different than the other races, and because of this you feel they should have a overpowering advantage because of it from cloak, I can except that, BUT I would like your suggestions to give the other races a overpowering advantage in their niches of effects as well before we even consider such a drastic change.

Maybe you could give the progen inherent supershield skill, that tosses off all dmg for a time or an enherant resistance, or maybe they should get a increased engagement window, that all their skills/weapons get a boost to range as they level up. *shrug*

Maybe the terrans missles should get smarter and smarter and longer and longer range as they level up, maybe they should get better resists or longer engagement windows, maybe they should have increased production results from builds, they get a chance of getting more ammo per build or a increased mystery buff on builds. *shrug*

Just because you like the idea and the convenience of doing everything while effectively immune....don't mean it should be a done thing, it in fact might be a balance of game breaker, sorry if you take this hard, but if you are going to give one race a "super skill" you got to balance it so the other 2 get a "super skill" also IMO

  6. Yeh, only one problem, who is the arbiter of "appropriate level of members/technology" is it anything like the current  leader of the Executive branch's insistence on "fair share" , what is fair, and who decides it, and what is enough to be fair? Who is going to be doing the "consideration"? Who is the "observer" and how do you ensure their objectivity?

It still hinges on a elite 3 controlling access.

Think history: remember Japan wanting to enter the world stage of world powers? In reality, they had truly advanced in technology and economic power to rival any one other single western nation. Yet those western powers, not wanting to give up their advantages in trade and exclusivity would never allow Japan into their trade agreements on a equal footing, they always insisted on Japan as a Jr. partner, that originally is what led to the militarization of the Japanese Empire, to "Force" the western  powers to respect them, later that changed, but it was the inetial motivation.

The same problem is what is wrong with communism, you always need someone to force others to comply, and as power corrupts...the one doing the forcing is always just a "tad" more equal than everyone else.

If you have the big 3 "owning" content, they get a sense of entitlement and are loath to do with anything less than what they "own". It will not work, any more than communism truly works.

  7. yeh they know its running slow.

Zack, yes a ammo type listing first the name, then dmg type next would be a most excellent solution.

Example: L9 Rocket type Zet chemical, Emp, Explosive, Plasma rather than the dmg type first.

L8 Fletchette projectile chemical, explosive, impact, plasma etc.

Other than the ammo scatter the alphabetization is MOST appreciated. GJ

About the discussion thing, it HAS been proposed AND discussed for a long time, in forums, and in game and the general consensus was it would be a boon for builders.

Perhaps the time line from "o.k. lets do it" and it actually being done was a bit abrupt, but Zack is a efficient type fellow and hopped to it once the decision was a green light.

Truly. other than the ammo scatter, what would be the down side on this, and why should it take a 1 month notice "hey guys, we going to do this"? The suggestion has been out there for a while, and had been kicked around and about pro and con, it was recently picked up as a can do and rapidly turned into a let's do, there is little enough impact from it, that there need not be a protracted debate and notice IMO.

  8. The above post makes perfect sense now, but please implement this soon. The whole problem i noticed with hard cap on ABILITIES is there is no "i can get the best item to boost that ability the highest" incentive anymore. So i do understand the diminishing return solution but i think we need more explanation on how increase your skill by 3.53 skill lvls affects the abilities and how certain buffs like for example: increase beam skill and increase beam handling which both of these basically increase beam accuracy. As for other skills, like Hull patch,  the highest can be 3.99 skill increased but does that mean the hull patch ability can be increased by 3.99 lvls?

No, beam handling and beam skill are different!.  Yes, beam handling increases accuracy. No, beam skill don't. Beam skill adds level of beam access and a % increase to base damage. Beam handling is how good you manage to hit, and miss, and has a minor effect on how often you will make a critical hit (2x dmg).

As to hull patch, if you read the description, you will see that it heals hull for a base amount @ level 1, there after it increases the amount healed based on each level attained. At upper levels it has additional effects live target other players, area of effect, group etc. So the device that adds +3.99 lvls makes you have 10.99, yes as it is with a hard cap, it only counts to 10 and that .99 is "wasted" level. But that +3 part is important, it increases that base amount healed by X times over and above what L7 would have been.

Example:  (not real numbers just an example) L1 heals say 100 hull hp @ 10 sec., L2 heals base amount 3x @ 10 sec. (so 300hp), L3 heals base amount 10x @ 10 sec. (so 1000hp) AND targetable to other player. L4 base amount etc........L7 all additional buffs and AoE and base amount by  100x (10k). now add that extra 3 lvls you are going to get say 150x base amount (15k).

  9. Got to disagree a tad here Zack:

Also note, there is only ONE reason for all these suggestions:

Making raids (and therefore the loot items) more accessable. But what does it mean? It means, that the items are nothing special anymore, everyone can get them easily, everyone has them - these items become "vendor ware like" (to put it drastically).

So this "end game content" becomes boring, nothing special, so maxed out toons are fading away....

    There are TWO reasons, namely:

    Yes, it's about access.

But reason two is even able to access. Yes, the loot items are nice, but for those that can't  even gain access they become moot. As it stands currently, the big 3 guilds hold a monopoly on content of GoBB/Controller. All the suggestions from players asking for activated raids and raid access timers have something in common, they don't belong to the big 3 guilds! :cluebat:  Does this not say something... is it not obvious?

So you are worried about the loot becoming too common, that it's not special anymore...you are worried that with activates there will be alt abuse...you don't want to turn down loot so that those that DO do the raid don't get ripped. Fine. I agree, it should be special, it shouldn't be abused, and the drop rates not nerfed so those doing don't feel ripped.

But, as it stands currently the big 3 have all the access, to THEM they get to do it whenever it's their turn to "own" it, it's the same big guys within those guilds running the raid, to THEM the loot is far more common, far less special, far less rare, to  THEM they have done it multiple times and its getting "boring", to them it's moot if you did nerf the drop, they can run it repeatedly until they do get the drop.

So here is a admitted radical suggestion to keep all of the following problems you identify: no alt abuse, no loot nerf, no common loot, no ripping off participants, no hogging content etc etc etc.

IDEA: 1 full month cool down for any toon having done the raid.  Then the guys with 4x L150 can do the raid 4x in the month 1x per toon, this will keep the same big guys in each of the 3 big guilds from hogging it, the loot won't be common and less special, everyone doing the raid is going to have a chance at the loot, the same few won't hog it all, even if the big 3 still monopolized it, the same few biggies would have to let some other of their guild mates get at it, and if they didn't have enough biggies in their guild, then maybe just maybe they would have to reach outside their select circle of friends and guildies to allow someone outside the big 3 to even get to experience the content.

  10. I know what they said at the time the reason they locked it at cap L10. It was the mathematics, that if things exceeded a hard cap then it would cause game unbalancing effects in their calculations.

As to why bother getting a device that adds skill more than 1 level if you are at level 9 now, the simple fact that it ups your base amount even if its capped, there are mobs with skills that lessen your skill in weapon x for a while, or interfere with your skill activation for a time. If the hard cap is 10, but in reality, you with your innate skill are 9 and have a device that boosts it 3-4 lvls, the mob debuffing you a lvl or 2 still won't lower you under L10 if you have a +3-4 skill levels.

Yes, I too would like hard caps off, but they at least in the past did it, and said it was so the balance didn't get away from them, hopefully in the future they can revisit that and maybe lift it, who knows?

  11. But hey will do it "better!" after all they are E.lectronic A.rts, they are artists, and clearly can do it better than anyone else!  They will add everything everyone tells they don't want, like micro transactions, and required subscriptions to other services for example, and then tell their customers this is what you want, really we know what's best for you, you want it.

*and if for some inexplicable reason they can't  *read guarantee fail* , they will name it a glorious win! And move on, quietly sunsetting their failure.

  12. Don't know the ins and outs of you're inter-guild snipes, but I'm getting some popcorn, this almost as good as Jerry Springer (btw, any of you stole your best friend's man or slept with your sister or cousin, spice it up a bit!) :)

You guys did this to begin with to push for the activated raids. Personally I liked it the way it has been. Like they say if it ain't broke don't fix it

Didn't know those guys did all this for activates, cool,  guess the smalls and solos have an unlooked for ally!

But about the "ain't broke, don't fix it....."

In our eyes (solos and smalls) it is broke and a activate will fix it. Guess from your point, being in the big 3 and actually having access at least once a week it weren't broke. I guess it's nice to look down from a well appointed tower and be able to look upon the "lesser rabble" with firm sense of ones own superiority  . I wouldn't know, being one of those rabble.

But please with all the above this post carry on!

  13. Here let me stir it a bit :)

What happens if a non-compact guild/group actually gets it together enough to "KS" another big guilds "rights" on "their" GoBB/troller turn?

Does the guild that finds raid not spawning when they "own" the raid time slot get to sneak one off another guilds "owning rights" day to make it up? Do they just have to suffer and tough sh*t?

Does throwing off the spawn order get some retribution from other "owner" guilds? What if a compact guild does sneak one away from another?

Does the non-compact group get some kind of punishment from compact guilds for having the temerity to interfere with their raid spawns?

I'm sure there is more :)

  14. This following joke could fit a few people.  (take no offense, just an attempt to input some humor into the situation lol)

  15. Actually I know for a fact there were some "inside track" things in previous ST. There were deliberate exploits worked in that some were privy to, that the player base as a whole weren't, I'm quite confident that hasn't stopped in "live".

Weather this is an exploit of not (not really) it's a perception problem at a minimum. When content is dependant on timed spawning mobs it will always create a needless bottleneck and choke point to further content progression. Those that are "in the know" will go grab the content/materials before there is a glut of others attempting to do it once it becomes "common knowledge". Those that come ofter will naturally be frustrated in their attempts and be embittered.

    Here is a personal example:
In Old Live (tm) the group combat xp was early on HIGHLY exploitable, there were whole guilds set up for the simple fact of power leveling others, there were people that actually paid RL currency to have these guilds power level them in game. They had people to 150 within a 8 days. They "exploited" a game dynamic that wasn't against TOS, they were "in the know", they had "the inside track". We (the beta team) warned the Devs this was going to happen, and they went with it live anyway. Now I, a "inside tracker" could have exploited that for myself, I didn't. I didn't group with anyone higher than my CL for well over a month and didn't join any guild for 2.4 months.

They adjusted combat experience (went a little heavy handed at first and had to retweak it) and there was a huge outcry. Who were the largest two groups that complained? 1. The PLing guilds, their whole meaning of existence now were negated (no tears from me on that) 2. The single, non-guilded players, they didn't even get to "experience" that xp boost others did and were forever considered in a "catch-up" mode for the rest of the life of the game. Those I actually had some sympathy for.

Every time something good came along content wise, I and others were time after time having it nerfed from under our feet, it was HIGHLY aggravating, lets have another example, Easter egg event: "in the know" folks knew what the rewards were going to be ahead of time and got on the content the moment it started, they were killing stuff left and right for eggs to get the goodies, they being already advantaged from previous gears gains etc. had a leg up on killing things us "lesser" players couldn't and got a much better crop of eggs and rewards, widening the gap between us and "them". Since easter event had a time frame, we never could get the goodies they got in that time frame. Because of the outcry over it being combat centric (you had to kill to get the eggs) the miners got screwed on that one, next easter they added eggs in ores etc. But by then, the warriors had all the goodies from easter last yr. and had moved on to ever better content and rewards, old Easter hunt was effectively a "ghost town" event.
  16. Torren, if that mission still exists to be used past L10, then expect it to be nerfed, it may have escaped dev attention. The TT and others have gotting their start zone missions adjusted to reflect it being a "start" zone and the new player to expand outward, the previous missions that you could do and make decent credits and xp (totally viable to L30 were other missions would then start providing more xp return rate). Those missions got fixed so you couldn't take them past a certain level.

The mission you mention may get some attention like the other classes got and its takeable @ -L11 but there after once you turn it in you can't retake. Personally I don't think they should take start missions like that away, that you should be able to do them to L150 if you were crazy enough to want to, but that there are other and better missions outside the start zone, getting better and better xp/rewards the farther out you go, that the rewards are such that you just can't resist leaving the start area, that you are lured to it.
  17. All this ^^^^^ (and more in other threads) is why so many of us advocate for activate raids. And the threat of nerfed rewards is the reason we advocate for raid participation timers.

Thank you, for once again with the inter-guild bickering, and child like behavior, highlighting for the rest of us just why activates and participation timers are such a excellent idea.....please continue! :)

  18. Sort of my point, everyone has an alt that makes stuff to feed em. But it shouldn't be that way from a content standpoint, content shouldn't be written 'assuming" that you have another toon to "carry" you. My idea about TS content like PS was because TS do lack fleshing, and since the bogrial/terran dynamics have them at each others throats storywise, and there is existing storyline about infincorp/DeWinter trying to delete hyperian explorers, relegating them to old obsolete/mothballed stuff, that part of their mission is to recover from that handicap, you could get a 2fer in content. Bogrial competition vs Hyperia for the junk needed to fix old ships, and the TS having a trade in niche that other classes have.

Got other ideas for TS content? I would love to see whats perculating in those fertile minds out there.

  19. The mission was a lot of work for an awesome reward.

From what I understand, most of the upset has been caused by the changing of the item after it was introduced to the live server.

The best way to stop the rage and upset is to prevent it. IE: carefully review the mission and reward before patching it to live. Had the item been warrior restricted at the onset, there would have been none of the drama that resulted of changing it afterwards. I never got around to doing the mission or getting the item so I have no stake or bias one way or the other. It just seems a little more planning/testing/reviewing would be in order for future things of this nature.

I may still get off my slacker arse and get one someday even after the nerfage. ;)

Good luck, you need a CVE device from voltoi boss to do it, and with the timer, camping and randomness of drop, it's an impossible acquire. I camped the boss spot for 4 days straight for 8 hr at a time and never even saw the boss spawn, let alone get to kill it, or even get the drop, and since I had fellow campers...I'm sure if it HAD spawned I would have had competition. That's the problem with lots of the content, those in the know (I wonder how they know without the rest of the player base getting a heads up *hint: inside info*) , get on top of something good and acquire the goods before it gets camped/nerfed/eliminated then complete the requirements and enjoy the rewards.

Later, when everyone else finds out about this formerly inside info content and tries to go for the great stuff, it's then camped/nerfed/eliminated and they don't get to enjoy the other stuff, they get left out and bitter. In the case of a nerfage/elimination the ones that had that inside track in the first place raise holy hell about it not being fair they got nerfed, (of course they never take into account they actually got to enjoy it, for whatever time they did, because they had an inside track, they want it screw everybody else!)

If you think I'm being overly pessimistic, kindly go back and refresh your memories over the myriad of past nerfages, you will find that much was nerfbatted over things being overpowered or to much of a good thing,  and who has that stuff taken..was it joeblow the average player? or marynoob the just started? No, it UberChuck the inside man.

  20. Although it's foreshortened and brief mission, isn't a AA device turn in just that? You find something mysterious, go to npc to discover what it is and they take fee and you got a new device. There is the mechanic right there, there is no reason missions couldn't be keyed that way.
