Married, for many years, to another gaming/SF geek. My spouse also likes to build computers. We like to argue about who has the highest geekdom score. (She has an unfair advantage, she painted and played miniatures when she was a kid.) We have 3 children, two of whom are gamer geeks. The other is a comic/anime/science geek. We also have 3 bad cats.

Undergrad degree in economics, specializing in international trade, economic development, and Japanese economic history. My thesis was on Japanese exchange rate policy after Bretton Woods.

Two years as a corporate financial analyst, putting together financial plans and proposals.

MS in computer science, specializing in AI.

Worked:

--for large defense contractor, doing a NL and planning AI project for the USAF. (LISP, on a Symbolics Lisp machine, the sweetest development environment. Only computer I've ever used where you could debug and edit the operating system while it was running.)

-- for a now-defunct company, on the interface and compiler for a dynamic simulation software/hardware package. (C/C++)

-- for another now-defunct company, doing assembly language programming for a parallel neural network chip (mostly computation-intensive graphics code, oddly enough)

-- for a machine vision company, writing code for their industrial vision system (C++)

Other languages learned at one time or another: Pascal, BASIC, C, APL, PROLOG, French, Spanish, and ancient Maya (but only a little).
