The info we have comes from the guy who wrote the strategy guides, but if someone could post a coherent proposition for how to get the thing working better it would help; scattershot 'the devs suck for taking away my exploit, gone 4 evar' posts don't really achieve anything.

I started two threads so we can get these two skills sorted.

JMO but people play this game for many different reasons. Myself I play because of the fond memory's of live and the fact it is the most fun game I have ever played. All I ask the Devs to do is keep it fun, I don't care about parity of class, there wasn't in live. TW was a kiter, PW was in your face and best sustained damage, JD was best burst damage and had to be because of Lv8 shields.

Trade runs were a good way to level Traders, mining for Explorers. All I ask myself, not speaking for anyone else is don't nerf the fun out of the game and I will keep playing. Most of the people playing make alts and more alts, don't make it so hard to level them you want to quit.

Myself I don't understand the need to nerf everything it seems. many times I kited Mobs half way across a sector in live, thats what a Terran does. Why the reset on the mobs, why link so many, they were not like this in live at least not the normal mobs. I really don't care if a PW can Shield sap organics to death, if it bothers me I'll make one, I did, I made two 150 PWs. I really don't care that JDs take no damage cloaked, its a fun toon to play.

Some days I just want to listen to music or watch a ball game and do Trade runs or Mine, these things should pay for your time spent. I feel the Devs in general have done a fantastic job, that doesn't mean my disagreement with the direction the game is going is a knock on their hard work. I only ask one thing, keep it fun. RTR
  2. If I remember correct, in live there was talk of adding an ore Vendor, a place Miners could sell their ore, refined and raw and builders buy it from the Vendor. The Vendor only had it if a miner sold it to them, there would not be unlimited supplies. IMO this would be a good idea and way for miners to be more useful.

Why not set up a system to buy like Skill Points,Items,Hull Upgrades and so forth. It might speed up in getting money faster for the donations for the server and team who is working there tail off. Yes this might upset people that cant offerd $10.00 or even $100.00, but for thouse who can put money in can get rewarded. Just an ideal for the Dev Team. Maybe latter down the road make space stations for guilds for cash like $50.00 for set up and if any addons more money. Yes this my upsetthe balance in game but we can pull together and figure a way to make it balance..

So anyone else thinks bad or good please post.

In live you could refer friends and get skill points. A reward of skill points for a donation may not be a bad incentive, maybe like 1 skill point per 5 dollars donated on a toon of your choosing, just a thought.

OK Group member shooting will now diable the cloak.
Navigate will now do one check as you enter GWell. if it fails you will drop out of warp and no be able to restart for 30 seconds.

I have released changes to the SVN it may be a few days until they get incorporated into the server.

The Navigate part, this was most definitely not the way it worked in live. I mined lots with a max JE in live. It would do a check, if ok you warped, if not you could with no delay hit warp again, if passed you warp. There was no 30 sec wait period.

Also as someone that soloed the Vrix boss in live on a regular basic in Roc I can tell you this. Grouped with a JE with group Stealth the Boss could not target or shoot my TE at max shooting range. Without the JE he could. I do know that the JE never lost cloak because I would have to uncloak from time to time to recharge reactor, at witch point the Boss would shoot the TE. This would lead me to conclude the group Stealth lowered sigs of all members regardless of shooting or not.

I really hate to come out of lurking on a topic like this, but a couple points if I may.

    1. I was at the dev meeting, and the intent of the comment made was not threatening. It sums up to a simple "The Ballista is not really supposed to be in game, so do not expect us to put ammo back any time soon." It was not intended to be threatening, childish, or sinsiter. At the same time our Dev meetings are usually fairly light hearted and (dare I say) with a bit of good nature banter. I can easily understand how some playfully sarcastic comment lead Sneaky to the conclusion he posted. But please do not think we are jerks like that. Talk to any dev and you will discover great people. Even the one that drives us all (player and dev alike) crazy with his Agrippa missions. We are here because we enjoy the game as much as you do.

    2. While I can understand a stance based on principle (and fuled by free time thanks to a down server) has anyone looked at the stats and DPS on the PL that has generated over 60 posts accross 4 seperate threds? Other than range boost it ain't that hot. Certainly not worth the energy expeded here. Its not a Hellfire Ballista after all. And cement costs are enough to begger even a dev. In terms of DPS it comes in second to last of all manufacturable lvl9 projectiles - second only to the dragon fang which uses lvl8 ammo.

    3. May I lastly remind you that the lifes blood of volenteer projects like this are a sence of community, comrodery, and respect. None of which are in high evidence herein.

    4. I know the server is down but alaso I am just a lowly content dev and have no power to correct. Keep rooting for TB and team. Hopeully you are soon able to enjoy some of the new TS content.

    Thanks All,
    El

Nice post Elrick, both informative and respectful to all parties. Seems like others could take lessons in this area.
  6. My views on this are that both sides are right, and both sides are wrong. IMO the Devs brought this situation on by putting the mission in and some people getting the map on the BB. I in no way see what it would hurt to make the ammo vendor at OMP. It is only natural for a PW to want to make his own ammo for a gun he is using.

I think the response by the dev came out more as a threat than as an explanation, this only alienates more people. I also feel some of the player base responses are just as wrong.

To put things straight, I have never, not once heard any player not express appreciation to the Devs for their hard work. I have never heard anyone say they are doing a bad job. What I have heard is people express opinions as to what they would like to see them do different. I feel some way there needs to be more communication between what the Devs are trying to accomplish and what the players want. I realize this is the advocates position, but when he questions and gets replies like, if they don't like it we will take it all away. Well, let's just say there is a serious lack of communication and mutual respect there.

We the players have an obligation to respect the Devs and donate enough to keep the game we love going. The Devs have absolutely no obligation to the player base. In the name of mutual respect it would be nice if the Devs kept the fan base informed and the game as fun and as fair as possible.

As for Sneaky, don't shoot the messenger. He did his job, put the question to the Devs and posted their reply. As for not wanting to give up his BB that's a very natural response IMO.

Afterburn & Navigate stack, so it would mean the Scout would be faster than the JE when flying between roids. The Scout also gets L9 engines to the JE's L8. The implementation of the 6K warp cap; however, ends any advantage the Scout had in this area, since the JE can easily go 7500 warp. The scout would retain any impulse speed advantage over the JE.

Right now, if you are looking at a heavily guarded orefied, the Scout is probably at the biggest disadvantage. The JE can avoid guardians by cloaking as needed, or even teleport the mob away, then mine. The PE can smash the mob's face in, or menace the mob to make them go away, so they can mine. The Scout's only option is to fight by kiting, or run.

The hulk field in AP is an example of a field with way too many guardians for it's size. It's fairly low level mobs 20ish, but if you want to mine there, you're going to need warriors, because you will be swarmed if you try to mine there. Even if you are a much higher level explorer you cannot just ignore them since any damage you take, no matter how small, interrupts prospecting.

Sense you have a 1000 cap on impulse speed, the TS has no advantage over the JE in getting to roids faster.
  8. IMO the goal to mimic live is a baseline for the Devs. To me it does not in any way concede the original was prefect or could not be improved upon.

A few items in the name of game fun, after all the game goal should be fun IMO, not necessarily harder.

A: While I agree not all class should be able to make weapons, I do think it would make a few classes more fun and you would see more of them if they could just make their own ammo. Easily achievable by tying making ammo to combat level. You should be able to make the ammo your weapon uses.

B: Job terminals, I don't understand why the timers and the limited jobs.

C: Level of Comps on the front of the Vendors Booth would be nice.

These are only a few suggestion that would make the game more fun IMO and not change the main premise of the original game.
  9. I think he means 1 player outgunned 6. Possible depending on:

    1) Ammo type/debuffs

    2) Streams of bullets coming in before someone else fired

    3) Crit/damage bonuses

    4) Range from mob (bullet travel lag)

I could see it if it was a PW due to the DPS imbalance in relation to the other jobs. If you do the math a pw has roughly double the DPS potential of a TW given the current in game items and skills.

Maybe he has items he shouldn't have for whatever reason, but really pointless to speculate without knowing the facts and seeing a video replay of who shot first, with what, from what range, what skills were used, etc.

Do all the math you want, Ive had both 150PW and 150TE. The way the game is now, with a HB debuff for the TE, they are more than a match for a PW.
