  1. I need you to clarify for me what a "saving throw" is here Terrell. I have tried repeatedly to try and understand what you are asking so I can repeat the question, however, it will be difficult for me to get an answer when I don't even understand the question myself. ;)

Maybe I'm just too dang tired to comprehend the written word today ;)

Hope to get an answer from you so I can get it on my 'list' for tomorrow.

A Saving Throw in RPGs is a random chance that you can avoid all or some of the effects of either a skill, spell, or attack used against you (or you against an enemy).  Obviously spells don't apply to EnB since we don't have magic in this game, we have skills instead.  Saving throws against damage, that's a bit more fuzzy since we have critical hits that do double damage.  That's likely a roll by the attacker since we don't have a skill or buff that makes our enemies less likely to score critical hits.   When you use a skill or a debuffer against a mob the server does a check (rather than throwing actual dice) to see if the mob is affected or if it resists.  If it resists then it's had a successful saving throw against your skill.

If Improved Cloaking gave a Saving Throw to a Jenquai, there would be a chance that when you make a cloaked approach to a mob that has either the See Cloaked buff, or the Scan skill raised to at least L3, there is some chance that you'll avoid being seen.  If there's no Saving Throw allowed, then a mob with See Cloaked or Scan 3+ will see you 100% of the time, regardless of your skill level, or buffs.

In the description of the Improved Cloaking buff is "makes ship harder to detect with see cloaking".  I'm asking if that part of the buff does anything.  If the Improved Cloaking buff does give such a chance to avoid detection, does it apply to both See Cloaked and the Scan skill.  (Scan skill gives the ability to see cloaked when raised to L3 or higher.)

The term comes from earlier games like D&D it was used to determine whether or not a spell, or damage hit.  A successful saving throw would allow the character attacked to avoid some or all of the effects (or damage).  (It's a throw of the dice, to save your character from spells or damage, hence the name).  This assumes that your enemy isn't inherently immune to what's being used against it.  (such as Hacking against a bio mob)

  2. When a Jenquai has an Improved Cloaking buff, does he get a saving throw (or whatever the EnB equivalent is) against see cloaking/Scan 3+ or do enemies that can see cloaked see through your cloak 100% of the time?  If there's a saving throw against being seen, is it something that's checked repeatedly?

I was wondering that since the Improved Cloaking buff stipulates that it makes your ship harder to detect with see cloaking, but I don't remember ever being able to be cloaked next to a mob known to have see cloaking, without being seen.  Does that aspect of the Improved Cloaking buff do anything?  If so is it against See Cloaked, Scan 3+, or both?

  3. I was asking that if we have Threaded Zet ammunition; would it have larger stacks than regular Zet ammunition, giving it the same advantage that Threaded Archos ammunition has over Archos ammunition.  As far as I know Threaded Zet ammunition doesn't exist, nor does a Zet threader.  The main point, is that the Scout's reward of such a device would be comparable to the Sentinel's reward for the same purpose in that fashion.  The JE gets the Gaze of Amah.

Think follow up question, based on an earlier question.

  4. Should be under Item Claim NTA.  You may also be required to be online, with an avatar, at an Intergalactic Net terminal to claim it.  Such terminals are in some, but not all, star bases.  Items that aren't claimed within a certain amount of time, 10 days I think, are returned to sender.

I haven't used it in a while, but I have mailed items from one alt to another, and both sent & claimed said item with the same avatar standing at the Intergalactic Net terminal.  I don't know if it will still work that way.

  5. For the first question, it might be good to have it here for those who didn't see it answered in game.  Raiding, offline, AFK, not having the appropriate channel open.

In terms of never seen before equipment I was thinking specifically in terms of the MCP rather than the game in general w/r/t the PE & JE.  The scout's MCP rewards would have to be "never seen before" as there wasn't a Scout in the original, for that type of equipment I was thinking in terms of the PE & JE.

I was wondering how valuable the rewards for the PE would be relative to the original game, as well as the Scout's equipment counterparts to the PE.  I didn't originally think of the JE in said comparison since ammo was my first thought on the matter, which doesn't apply to the JE's racial weapon.  The Gaze of Amah for the JE is definitely worth getting.  The way that the Made to Live and the Gaze of Amah complement one another, they are IMO a great beam combination when running Plasma.  I'd think most JEs would want that combo, unless they have something better.

  6. Since the PE and Scout can now learn to build their own ammunition, what of the Archos Threader?  Will this item be replaced with something new when the MCP comes around, and should there have been a Zet threader?  If the items are going to stay, will Threaded Zet/Archos ammo be in some way superior to the ammo that the explorers can make with their build ammo skill?  If not what's the point of those rewards?

Since the PE & Scout have the ability to build ammo now, can there be some missions where they learn ammo that's useful to other classes, but can only be built by the PE or Scout? Said missions would be restricted so that you had to be a PE, a Scout, or either.  Said ammo would not drop in game.  The weapons for that ammo could either be a drop, or the print could be a mission reward.  (if the mission is a drop, then there could be something in the description that hints that a Scout, Sentinel, or both can make the ammo)

When the MCP comes around will there be never before seen items for the 3 exploration classes?  (I may have asked this one before, but I can't remember)

  7. I do think that Vishao's Cove & Witberg are excellent.  I agree that Venus isn't as useful, but then again maybe it can be moved at some point in the future as the galaxy gets bigger.  Perhaps a better location would be Xango or Thelugi Rift when those sectors open.  The nearest weft to them is in Carpenter.

Potential places for future Extended Wormholes could be Eidenmist Nebula.  If it's owned by the Mordana, and at least has a few sectors in it, it may be far enough away from VC to be worthwhile.  Epsilon Eridani, depending on how we get there & how big it is may be another good location.  How big will Antares or Aquitane get when they're fully implemented in the future of the game? Nebiros might also be a decent candidate.  I guess it likely depends on the game's future & how big the galaxy gets.  What other surprises may the devs have in store for us, that the maps in the resource section don't even hint at?

  8. Thank you for the Update Alurra. I would have to agree with GHB, althought it would be nice to have every type of ammo for all weapons but not nessary. each raid and mob have differnt deflects, that is where tactics come into play, Work together find the best tactics and go to town. it is all fun.

Agree here as well.   I also like Goodhumorboy's point about needing to assign each race to particular mobs, in the same raid, based on the damage types they have access to.  That was a great idea.

  9. I have to agree with Iacobus and subsequent posters as well.  The channels, IMO, are fine the way they currently are.  If a new player has difficulty figuring out which channels to monitor, or how to change the channels monitored, there are players that would be willing to help them.

  10. Gunney, I never play my TT in a combat situation so please forgive me here, but isn't the hull patch, at least, completely spammable, as in no cool down time at all? I don't know about the shield portion.

I think Recharge Shields is as well.  I've not used it in combat on my TT, but I've used it on my JT (mostly during ST3/ST4, a little in Live).  Only ones I can think of with a cooldown timer are Afterburn, Null Factor (?), Shield Leech/Sap, & Energy Leech.  Now quite a few have power up timers.

  11. A back door to stage one & stage three Agrippa for Progen would be nice.  Perhaps the devs could implement such a thing but make the cost of doing so very high.  Something where you'd have to turn over a large amount of credits, dev's discretion on the amount, for stage I backdoor, and for stage 3 it be required that stage I & II already been done, plus a larger amount of credits than Stage I backdoor.  Again dev's discretion on the amount.

Is this doable as an alternative back door, Progen Only?  Terrans or Jenquai would remain the same where they can be invited into Stage II, but don't have access to the other 2 stages.

  12. The game does not offer joystick support.  Depending on your race and class there are tactics you can use to get the best out of your character.

When you're playing solo do the following. For Terrans use missiles, keep your distance.  You don't have to face your target when using missiles.  Spend skill points on increasing missile weapon to the max available.  Ignore raising other weapon types.

For Progen use Projectiles, Progen are tougher than Terrans or Jenquai of the same profession.  You must face your target when using Projectiles or Beams.  Spend skill points on increasing Projectile Weapon to the max level available.  Ignore raising the other weapon types.

For Jenquai use Beams.  With beams you must face your target to shoot it, also beams have damage penalties if used beyond 50% of the beam's range.  Keep your signature as low as possible via equipment choices.  Use your cloaking skill to sneak up on your enemies.  Get Cloak to L5 as soon as you can, this requires Explore level 25.  Put at least 3 points into Fold Space.  L3 Teleport Enemy sends your enemy away from your ship in the direction you're facing.  Enemy must be targeted for this to be done.

Regardless of your race & class, spend skill points on Reactor Tech & Shield Tech as soon as new levels become available and you have sufficient skill points. You also want to level up your Device Tech & your Engine Tech.  Engine Tech takes the lowest priority among the types of equipment, but don't neglect it.

On the Net-7 Portal there are character planners to help you out.  After you log in, look to the left of the screen and click on your character's name.  This will show you what your character currently looks like in terms of skills.  At the bottom click on Open Planner.  It will show what you've spent skill points on, and allow decide how you want to spend skill points.

There are tabs above to look at other aspects of your character(s).  These include:

    1. Friends (who is on your friend's list)
    2. Signatures (ability to make forum signatures for each of your characters)
    3. Factions (who likes or hates you & how much)
    4. Ship (what you currently have equipped on your ship)
    5. Inventory (what is currently in your possession)
    6. Mission Log (current missions & completed ones)
    7. Item Claim (allows you to pick up items mailed to you by other players)
    8. Mail (players can use the N7.org site to mail other players messages)

Faction is important, as it points out how people feel about you.  If you are targeting something or someone who belongs to a specific faction, their faction will be listed below the picture of their ship.  If your standing is between -1999 and +1999 you are neutral to the mob in question, it will leave you alone so long as you do the same for it.  Faction +2000 or greater means that faction likes you, faction -2000 or worse, means that the mob in question hates you enough to shoot on sight.  Whether or not said mob shoots at you depends on whether or not it can see you, and the mobs aggression stat, if you're fighting it's buddies, it's altruism (it's willingness to help others of it's kind) stat may affect it's behavior as well.  Aggression & altruism stats are not shown, you have to observe how the mobs behave.

Mobs that are not factioned will respond to you based on whether or not said mob is inherently neutral, or inherently hostile, as well as if it can see you, and it's aggressiveness stats.  It's altruism stat will determine whether or not it will help it's "friends" if you are fighting another mob, and if so to what degree.  Mobs that have a yellow icon generally won't bother you if unless you bother them, or they're told by another mob to attack you.

  13. Another important thing is that each race favors a particular weapon, and you don't have enough skill points prior to 150 to level all of them up without sacrificing key skills.  For a Terran you will always want to max Missile Weapon, for a Progen you always want to max Projectile Weapon, for a Jenquai you'll always want to max Beam Weapon.

For any explorer regardless of race you want to max Prospect & Jumpstart.  For equipment you want to max Reactors & Shields.  You also as a bare minimum want your devices to at least L7, though I'd recommend L8 or L9.  Don't forget to raise your engine tech as well though the other equipment is higher in priority.  You'll get hull upgrades at OL10, 30, 50, 75, 100, and 135.  You will have to talk to an NPC and do a mission to get them, who you need to speak too will be in your mission log.  Hull Upgrades make your hull stronger, increase your cargo capacity by 2, and get either an additional weapon or device slot.

  14. The newbie areas are class restricted.  Only the class that learns there can go.  You can go back to your training area at any time, regardless of whether you're L0, L150, or anywhere in between.

If you're in Io you're in the training area for the Jenquai Explorer (JE).  If you are not a JE then my advice was faulty and you need to go to the correct training sector for your class.

Each training sector has 2 gates for entry/exit to other sectors or systems.  Depending on which type of explorer you are, your training sectors are as follows:

    Terran Scout: Equatorial Earth

    Progen Sentinel: Mars Beta

    Jenquai Explorer: Io

From Equatorial Earth you can go through gates to Earth or Alpha Centauri.  From Io you can go through gates to either Jupiter or Capella.  From Mars Beta you can go to either Mars or Gallina.

Basically there are gates to go to each possible area.  If you see a gate in your targeting window it should have an icon just above the upper right corner of the window.  If there's no icon there, then you can't go through that gate.  Reasons that you can't go through that gate may be faction, it's the training area for another class, or the gate is not open for whatever reason.

  15. If you're supposed to find iron ore, you're one of the 3 exploration classes.  If I remember the training missions correctly you're a JE so you should be in Io sector, near the Nishino Research Facility.  You should stay in Io until you finish your training missions.  The first mission to find iron ore shouldn't have L4 mobs near you.  There should be abandoned drones & haywires, which if I recall correctly, should be CL0 - CL2.

You should be able to find appropriate asteroids near Refuse Area.  When you get there, press X on your keyboard.  That should target the nearest asteroid (works for other items as well but not mobs).  In your targeting window (bottom right) you should see the asteroid.  Move toward it by turning your ship using the arrow keys, then use A to thrust forward, or Z to go backwards.

Above the asteroid in your targeting window should be a pickaxe icon.  If you're too far for your prospect skill, the icon will be greyed out, and will change color when you're close enough.  When you're close enough (your prospect skill will say how close you need to be in it's description), click on that icon.  It will open a window, click on an item in the window that opens, your ship will mine that item & tractor it in.  You will then receive the item you mined and some explore experience for mining it.  If there's anything left in the asteroid mine it too, it will also give you explore XP, and emptying the asteroid completely will also give you a small XP bonus.

When you've mined the amount of Iron ore the NPC asked you to mine, return to him and talk.
