  1. One other thing on that, will the person be listed by his or her name in the forums? Or will it be based on the names of their characters? Many of us have more than one and there are at least some of us who don't call our alternate toons by our main toon's name with the race/class combo at the end.

  2. Re moving while disabled, I understand the dangerous exploration thing, I enjoy it myself, but I think that due to the nature of this effort, a little help wouldn't be a bad thing. I'm focusing on the point that we don't really have a lot of players to help you on your "corpse retrieval". I was just in a tour yesterday and lo, something pretty much teleported to us at a stop and wiped half of us in seconds. Fortunately, two of us were bugged and could move away under our own power, 'cause our tour guide went just about into hull getting the one remaining person out of there.

Add to this the fact that this game doesn't really have the typical progressively more dangerous areas the farther you move away. Pretty much everywhere has a real range of danger to it, so unless you're on the high side of the range, then in every sector there's somewhere you can get your butt shot off. And usually the flargin' mobs are at navs, so you get killed just trying to map through a sector :(

As a bonus, this idea would actually let lowbie JSers help out more, as they can warp straight to you once you're clear. Hadn't thought of that before.

I think a better option would be to add new equipment for all 3 explorer classes, and have some with a buff to reduce the time required to Jumpstart, increase the range by 1K or so, or both. Max JS range in live with L7 JS was 2.5K if I recall correctly. If you check Slayerman's database, there is already a GETCo device listed that reduces XP debt, called the Ebony Ward. Everyone will want one.

  3. Ugh why do all the decent ore field have manes in them? There were other mobs that guarded ores.

Yeah, I wondered the same thing in Live, especially since Nishido didn't make Plasma beams for JE to use. (had to use non-race beams to get plasma on a JE)

  4. I was kind of sleepy when I wrote the last part about mobs and alturism and I didn't word my thoughts very well (or type very well). I do think that mobs should tend to vary in their willingness to help one another out, some should be apathetic, others will open fire on anyone that opens fire on thier buddies, still others would simply hang back, and cast whatever buffs/heals they can on their buddy under distress. On aggressiveness it came out about right.

On factioned mobs, they should behave according to your standing with them. If I have neutral faction with a factioned mob, they should leave me alone as long as I leave them alone. Neutral mobs should never come to the assistance of players, or attack without provocation (you attack them or another faction member), but mobs that you have good faction with should occasionally help you a little. If you're an Explorer (of any race) for example fighting a Jack-a-roid mob, you have good PW faction and other Centuriata mobs are in the field, they should probably attack whatever you're fighting if they're close enough to see the fight. If it's one of the trader factions, that you're in good with, they should probably cast shield recharge on you if they see what's going on. If you're hostile in faction, they should join in the fight against you either by attacking you directly, using whatever skills, buffs, or debuffs they have either against you or to help your opponent, or any combination of the above.

  5. Kenu, the cap has to be higher than 5500 unless it was lowered in the last 24 hours or so. When my Seeker uses her travel gear she can warp at 5800, though she slows down considerably when she approaches a gate. Her speed is reduced to less than half, around 2700 or so the last 30k or so. For Travel she uses a L8 Terran Engine the pink vendor one, a 200% L7 RR+, and a 200% L7 Charging Unicorn.

I think that there should be the option for easier or tougher fights, by mob selection. (basically the way it works now).

On damage types, I agree, but I would make it a bit more of an adventure w/r/t which damage types to use against mobs. Don't make it where you can say, I'm hunting ships, so if I'm Terran I'll use Explosive, Progen Impact, and Jenquai Energy, while all 3 races choosing Plasma for bio-mobs. Mix it up more, make it so the best way to find out what damage to use against mobs is trial and error. For the 4 most likely to be used damage types, Energy, Explosive, Impact, and Plasma. Have some mobs where 1 type of damage (not just plasma) works better against the others than the other types. For example there could be a mob that has resistances to chem and Plasma, immunity to Explosive, vulnerablity to Impact, and normal damage done by energy. of course that could be switched up for different types of mobs (The same type of damage that kills one Voltoi, will kill any other, but some may take more hits to receive the same damage). This would mean that all classes have ready access to at least two useful types of damage available in their racial choice of weapons. Jenquai have a good selection of beams in Energy & Plasma, Progen get a good selection of PLs that use Impact, Chem, or Plasma ammo, and Terrans get a good selection of MLs that use Explosive, Plasma, & Chem. (I intentionally left out EMP since it's at best highly situational for use)

Of course there would be some exceptional weapons in terms of damage type, for type of weapon, like the Silver Hammer PL which can do energy damage. They wouldn't be common, and often be more difficult to build than "normal" weapons of their type (beam, ML, PL) and level.

Some mobs should be tougher than others, i agree. Some mobs should attack if you do anythign to their buddies, some only if you mess with them, amd othrs on sight. Also having mobs with differetn levels of aggressiveness/ or alturisticallly.. Faction also affecting aggressivness/alturism of faction base. Mobs can help one another out by joinging in the fight, buffing but not joining in, (same for shield recharge0, both, or they may ignore their fellow mob.

  6. I have a suggestion (as usual)

I think that a web based bug reporting system for the players at large could possibly speed up fixes, and as a bonus let us help.

Reporting things to the “Beta” players’ sort of, kind of works, but in all honesty it lacks in players reporting what could be serious issues. It is much easier to just assume that is has been reported.

Add a section to the mysql db, player bugs or similar. Allow a simple keyword search on those reported bugs by both players and devs. This would allow one to see if it has been reported previously.

    ------

A drop down list displaying area of problem

A Dev only area to mark level of bug severity 1 – 4 would require Dev review

    1 – Critical show stopper

2 – Bad needs fairly immediate attention

    3 – Cosmetic – Typo or similar

4- Wish – no need to fix but could be after the above have been addressed

Comment area for the bug itself.

Possibly add directions on this page for listing steps to recreate the issue/bug.

    What do you think?

A skill that partially works, but doesn't fully work properly would fall under which number?

  7. One question on Lowering Negotiate on Seeker from L7 to L5. Will that make her the least earning among the Traders considering that both the PT and TT are more effective in combat? I do agree that the addition of FS will make her more effective in combat, so maybe that will help.

  8. Got a point there, that Brimstone Hades can be more easily acquired by killing the Mother Spark (CL45) in Pluto & Charon. On top of that, while it doesn't drop everytime it's a one on one fight. Was able to beat it (mother spark) with a Seeker, using substandard weapons & L7 Recharge Shields.

  9. Gotta agree with Fragbait there. Had good V'rix faction on my JE in live. Fed them Mordanite as well, and generally left them alone. Worked on my RD faction by killing Chavez (then unfactioned) as well as Mevri drones (Sha'ha'dem). On my JW I used killing V'rix to raise my RD faction, since it was faster than Chavez, I regretted it. Would have liked to have been able to hunt solo in Antares with my JW without having to constantly look out for V'rix Helkos who could hack things, see cloaked, and attacked on sight.

  10. I must be the biggest idiot - I played this game non stop years ago, and apart from the basics, I have forgotten everything. It is driving me mad!

Is there a beginners guide anywhere that I can read? I have been reading some of the old EnB cached pages, but they just don't seem to line up anymore - The enbdatabase site is a lifesaver though.

Basically, I am a Terran Enforcer - I bought devices and upgraded as I explored, I current;y have a Jenquai Restricted shield, a Program restricted reactor and a Terran (I think) engine, and Progran weapons. - are these the best?

From reading the stats shown, they look to be the best, but I do not understand what restricted means as I can seem to use it.

Is there anyway to see in game what extra stats devices have or should I just check the online database?

After this, I upgraded to EMP weapons as I thought damage to reload time was the best - then I found out that they can't damage organic - which does seem obvious, but I just didn't know!

Thanks so much everyone for reviving this game!

Progen restricted means that Progen characters cannot use, build, or analyze this piece of equipment, Jenquai restricted applies the same restrictions on Jenquai chars. Since you're a Terran you can use both Progen Equipment or Jenquai Equipment unless the equipment is Progen Only or Jenquai only. Since you're an Enforcer, (Terran Warrior) you cannot use any piece of equipment that carries the following restrictions.

    1. Jenquai Only

    2. Progen Only

    3. Warrior Restricted

    4. Traders Only

    5. Explorers Only

    6. Terran Restricted (rare, very few items carry this restriction, I can only think of 5 from Live)

Any piece of equipment that doesn't have the above restrictions you may use, provided you have the apropriate tech level to use. Which means you cannot use L9 Beams, Projectiles, Devices, or Reactors, since you only go to L8 in those items.

You want to max your tech levels (devices, reactors, shields) with the possible exception of engines, prior to L150. Max Missile Weapon. Use mostly MLs made by Terran companies, while levelling up. They will usually be your best choice though there are exceptions to this.

  11. I don't think that multiboxing should be banned. I think so long as it's not being used to abuse other players it should be fine. I don't think for example having your TT and your JE (or other class combo) sitting at F7 taking build orders should be a problem, nor should it be a problem for a person to use a mule char on a second account to effect transfers between alts on the same account.

  12. Connection Speed? MVAS miscalculations? Don't know. Works for me about 80% of the time, and I don't even have a [DEV] account.

    - Marco

FS only works for me at extremely short ranges, less than 1K, as far as Teleport enemy is concerned. Not sure what my connection speed is, what sites do you consider reliable to test it? Have a cable modem, and Roadrunner is my ISP.

Yeah, I know, my putting ice on them was a joke too, hence the smiley.

  13. Fold Enemy is working, as far as I can see. Some mobs don't display range correctly. Hence the Nagifars for example. So then Fold Space would have issues with them. For example, the distance from the mob is measured from their "center point." The actual skin/surface of the mob could be up to a few kilometers from their center. For example, Nagifars, Tengu, Planet Eaters, Sundivers, etc. Basically any huge mobs.

    - Marco

It's not working properly on huge or small enemies as far as I can tell. Last time I tried it I couldn't teleport away anything great or small, that was further away than .8K or so, when the range should be 5.5K at L3 with no FS buffs installed.

Oh and given that match to determin FS on the Seeker, a little ice might help with the pain and swelling. ;)

  14. No offense... but that list as written by WW/Ea or whoever is crap and it always was... we refer to it like its some kind of bible... but the whole thing really needs to be thought out better... I am not going to even attempt to provide so much as my opinion on how I feel it should be (actually I am not totally sure)... cuz it would just lead to a pointless never ending debate with many people just citing what is in their best interest... but what I am confident in saying is that list is junk and we should treat it as such

Why is it junk? It's what each class actually builds. Defend your argument. Unless there is some new equipment added to the game, I would be against changing any of the build skills of the 9 classes, with the possible exception of giving JT and PT an additional build, (Reactors for JT, Devices for PT) and if added Lore skills (Progen Lore for JT, Jenquai Lore for PT, Terrans can already build Jenquai/Progen so they don't need Lore skills). Now if there is some new piece of equipment added, something that's not an Engine, Device, Weapon, Shield, Reactor, or Component then I could see changing build skills, but there isn't anything wrong with the build assignments per class. Now I could see putting more engines in the game, to make that skill better for the 4 classes with that skill, but I don't think any of them should have build engines switched for something else, absent some new types of equipment to build.

  15. According to Marco on his blog:

The following changes will be noticed within two weeks:

    - Psionic Shield is gone. You will not be missed.

    - Navigate has been reduced to match the Privateer. To keep the Terran's happy.

    - Fold Space was added to level 5; after Kenu and myself settled with a roshambo (definition number 1) match. I won. :)

    - Also, the big one... A new Build Skill. You'll have to wait to see. >.>

I'm going to change the post above, I am kinda going to be sad about the removal of Psionic Shield, since I used it plus the shield recharge combo.

Navigate? Don't you mean Negotiate? Seekers don't have Navigate, only JE, TE (E=Explorer), and TT have that skill.

I don't think my Seeker will complain about losing her Psi Shield, she uses Recharge Shields far more. Can she have her 21 skill points back?

Adding Fold Space, is something I like, makes Seeker able to separate mobs, same as JE/JW, good thing.

New build skill? Interesting, my guess is Reactors, but I could be wrong. If there isn't some new equipment to build, Reactor makes sense. If there is a new type of equipment to build, then I'm very curious.

  16. frag quick question... why do you prefer % view (just curious)? and just from my perspective once I have the total xp then getting the % is easy... if my xp bar says

54,000/108,000 I know I am 50% there and even with less than perfect numbers to divide you can still get real close to the % at a glance...

but hell... I would be happy for just a forum post that told the total amt of xp required per level and I could do the math as well... not afraid of the math... but without the total number we dont know what it is... which tbh makes no sense... why hold back that information

Agreed. Amount of XP per level would be a nice addition. Perhaps a sticky thread in Knowledgebase. I do like the idea of you need X number of XP required to receive your next level, instead of percentages.
