1. It will effect everyone because Vaden is also the guildleader of a very big guild, able to do raids etc.
So all high-level stuff you need in game is build by mostly Vaden.

Of course this is selfish at this point to say "Vaden must stay to build my stuff".
But whole life is this way, no ?;)

BESIDES from "right and wrong"...
2. Good evening/morning.

Obv. VadenTT was banned.

Of course, this is something the community is not involved in and a dev/GM could close the thread with a comment like "Not your cup of tea...we sort out alrdy...yadda yadda".

Anyway - since Vaden is a great supporter of the community, i still ask for the "why".

This project is still a community project. Its not important who is CODING it (of course it is), but we also shouldnt forget who is supporting it in a financial way (aka PAYING for it) - so i think its a....ya say "right" of the community to ask, why one of the most supportive toons has been banned.

I'm just jumping in EARLY...before this whole "affair" becomes an uproar noone will able to handle at the end, resulting in MASSCANCELATIONS...that would SUCK !

Of COURSE everyone knows whats going on here, we are also aware of this.

So plz...lets discuss the topic in a friendly and polit way.

In my experience hosting costs, server rental, ... in Germany is still pretty cheap. I run ~ 20 servers with different german hosters (1&1, Hosteurope, Hetzner) and currently move all my business to Hetzner where i already got 8 of the boxes.

Pricing of Hetzner dedicated machines is unbeatable low, they have a brilliant infrastructure and you can reach the admins 24/7 by phone. So for my part hosting my own servers at co/lo's makes finacially no sense!

I really don't exactly know the EnB team's requirements but for $1200 a month i can rent a whole bunch of machines at Hetzner!

Don't tell me €59($77) for a i7-920 24GB RAM, or €89($116) for Xeon E3-1275 16GB is expensive. Also additional stuff like Lara-console, additional ip-ranges, etc. is well priced. They even let you install ESXi so you can virtualize by yourself.

Double post...sorry
Fullquote...sorry

But this post is 100% QFE.

I know Hetzner very well and can confirm everything Dosenbrot said about it.
4. Morning world,

one of the most common (and underestimated) problems with co-located servers is hardware failure.
You have to take care about it yourself, no1 is helping you since its your hardware.

I might point to another emulator-project, where repeated hardware failures the last year have almost killed the project.
Databases lost, forums lost etc.

Sure, the backup-strategy there was "inapropiate"...but to be honest: The backup strategy here is (was?) too---we know what happend in the past :(

With co-located servers and a hardware failure you need staff/others helping you - and they will charge you.

The best is to rent a server - these servers are build with components proved to be relaiable on 24/7 duty and ready to run.
You got nightly automated backups so you are pretty save in case of the worst-case scenario.

If something is happening with that hardware, the technical stuff of the NOC will repair it quickly without extra charges, so the server comes back online quickly.
Everything else is suboptimal - imho.

Co-located servers make only sense if you NEED to run hardware, no1 else is offering, eg. TB SSD, special pherepherie etc.
5. Good morning.

One of my professions (got a few) is working as a professional Sound-Engineer and a voice-over artist, located in germany.

I will be happy to help out since i have a record-studio here.
I can do voice-overs in english (german accent) and in german as well (male).

I would like to takeover the finishing of all voice overs here, which is (in detail) post-processing and mastering.
All voice overs should be of the same sound quality and levels.

A few tips for recording:

Voice overs should be in mono (become stereo in mastering)
44 (better 48) KHz
16 Bit (better 24)
Wave or aif format
Use a condenser mic (dynamic microphones are usually arent good enough for studio-vocals)
To avoid plop/wind noise - use a pantyhose over the mic
do not turn your head while talking
since we do normal speaking, come close to the mic but not too close
avoid any rrom reverberation. If you have reverberation in your room, use a blanket over your head and mic to avoid reflections from the room
please do not use any compression, de-esser or other tools in the record chain - thats done in the postprocessing
voice overs are like good actors: You have to "live" what you are talking about. Anyone will hear an unemotional reading - comparable to a bad actor talking like a robot
If the developers feel the urge to move on in this topc, feel free to join me into the "TFVO" (Task force voice-over).
6. Hi.

Did not find anything using the term "svn" in the search, so i ask here.

1.
What is the SVN URL for the current repos ?

2.
Can i find the MySQL DB also there?

I just want to lookup some code and database stuff, check out some places in the code regarding gating, CTDs, mysql queries etc.
Not saying you're not fine on your own - i am sure you perfectly are.
7. Uhm..i dont want to "disturb" this discussion, but i simply dont understand why you dont rent a server in Germany at one of the biggest farms there?
You get a very reliable machine there for 99.- EUR.

I have a server myself over there and its pretty performant.

I mean...we are talking about 200 connections regulary and 500 connections at max.

Quad core 4x2,7
16 GB RAM
4 TB Disc (Raid)
Traffic unlimited (!)

All tools, all extras included blablablabla

Choose from Debian, Ubuntu, Suse, CentOS etc.

For 79,- EUR you can get a 160GB SSD-drive machine with 4G/RAM and Quadcore, also unlimited traffic.

I have an SSD drive in my server and it kicks A....esp. when you have a lot of SQL querys - which is the case here.
The speed-up from SSD is brutal and for heavy-load SQL normally a must.

At these rates, you can even rent 2 servers!
8. I like having no Vrix so far - it helps the feeling of EnB.

When the EMU goes live one day, even then there should be no V'rix/bug.
Then we can all level a bit and someday some...."unnatural occurence" may come up introducing changes in the space we called our home...

Let us all enjoy the golden sunset of Mercury, the peaceful and warm space of Glen and the endless freedom within the Endragio system...go and visit Praetorium Mons and enjoy your trip - as long as it is still there....
9. Good morning Tienbau,

i know i know :)

But i think the launcher news are more of a "public version" of milestones.

Im pretty sure to never read there:

Fixed deadlock when crosslocking players in trade

or

changed objectID from int to uint32 for inventory items

etc.

The news on the launchpad shows what HAS been completed, but i doesn't show whats NOT completed (open tasks).

Maybe some community members are able to help with certain tasks if they would know whats left to do ?

Was just an idea.

I also do understand that the coders are busy spending their free time with coding the server and that there isn't really time left for maintaining a project-status site/page/list.

Laterz...

10. I understand wipes may be necessary but imho they should happen only in last resort. Some of us spent a lot of time leveling and gearing up several characters and I for one know that I would take a break before redoing it again. I will (would) be coming back at some point tough. I believe the risk of losing disappointed players is very real, specially considering that nowadays many of the online characters are dual or tri boxes.

Exactly this.

Dont forget, while some dont mind starting over again, some do - which means less testers every wipe (counterproductive).

There's no wipe on the horizon either, so don't worry about that.

Means i am logging in now after month of absence due to the last wipe.

Why ?

Because TradeXP is the uber-suxor and missing job terminals are not helping this issue :)

But i think ive read about jobterminals...so im going to check now.

11. VMWare is free as well (Player, ESX, Server).

I play EnB on VMWare under Linux and Windows too (portable workstations on an external drive) and since VMWare has a basic 3D acceleration and DirectX-Abstraction it is working quiet good.

It helps, that EnB is not that gfx-hog like modern games.
