I wish someone would just shoot that dieing/dead horse we call NASA and pull all the outrageous regulations so that private citizens could develop the means to reach for the stars without the crippling government bureaucracy.
What regulations are you talking about? As far as I know, any private citizen can build a spaceship and go into space if they want to. There are even incentives (privately, and maybe even publicly funded) in the form of rewards and bounties to whomever is able to achieve this first or consistently. Other than having to notify the FAA or whatever about their flight plan, I can't think of anything. Or is the govmn't really just trying to use NASA as a way to eat your babies?

Sometimes I just wish I there were someone out there I could take my frustrations out on in the game. Other than that, I can't comment much. Maybe limit PvP to certain sectors? I.e. you can enter them only at your own risk.
It would also be nice if some systems were actively patrolled (i.e. moving from one NAV point to the next, or randomly through a sector) such that members aligned with the wrong faction have to worry about being chased and attacked.
There's even the possibility that players could be offered limited PvP via quest-related patrol missions, but my gut tells me this could be too easily abused.

I have been finding this class kind of frustrating, especially now since I am over level 100. I can hardly ever find anyone to group with, and soloing is tedious. This despite that I am in a guild.
Changing JE's ability to reflect damage using Env. Shield from a fixed number to a percentage, or allowing them to prospect while cloaked, would help smooth things over a little bit for them in solo combat. Other than that, there's not much that can be done until there are more players in the game.

you know that EA bought out Origin, the company that made Privateer too don't you? i believe they closed down a project for a privateer online game that was underway in roughly 2000. the smilarities are spooky ehh
Freelancer started out being developed by the same guy (Chris Roberts) that was behind Privateer. Then EA started taking over his role.

I noticed a little bit of lag in Antares when we were having all the login issues, but not that bad. Not nearly as bad as over Christmas break.

You could look at the source code to Vega Strike. It's got a lot of the basics already up and running. Just needs some fresh blood, and maybe money will even help.

Some sort of leaderboard would be nice, either on a per-player or per-guild basis. Not sure what stats should be listed though.

I didn't play Live for very long - just long enough for my demo key to expire.
My question is, what are all the different ways that Live was different from EnB-Emu?

1. Increase the verticallity of map objects. Currently they're mostly all along a flat plane.
2. If 1, then increase the maximum vertical angle that you can fly at.
3. Add some extra vault space. The limited space really hurts us miners.
4. Allow the group leader the auto follow ability. Currently it seems not to work when flying in formation.

I agree 100% with the first five suggestions. Not sure about the rest. I've had a lot of fun with fast-spawning lower level enemies, such as the Chavez in Glenn. In a group with a JE and a TT, the enemies drop like flies but keep coming. The XP might not be as good though.
An additional suggestion would be to add more keyboard shortcuts for harvesting, looting, etc. This would be nifty for my JE.
Also, someone the other day in the game suggested that it would be nice to be able to select waypoints to warp along. I would definitely use this from time to time, as the default NAV routes in some systems are simply stupid! On the other hand, the current system was designed for balancing reasons I assume, because it allows only higher level characters with good reactors to free-warp wherever they want and risk running into higher level mobs.

Two things mainly:
1) backups!
2) communication, i.e. answers to questions like, "What the hell happened?!!" and "What did that update fix?"

[edit] OK, no need to tell you that the server is still down.
In any case, I think it is important to see if backups can be applied in realtime to correct problems.
I am learning SQL Server right now. The book says a good backup strategy is weekly full backups, daily differential backups, and hourly transaction log backups. They should be stored in a different physical location, such as a different building in another city, in a locked room with fire detection systems and no standing water. And Jet Lee in the closet.

OK, so the bug seems to have affected people who have done hull upgrades AND/OR player and hull redecorations (via the in-game booth in Venus or Pluto or wherever).
Anyone else?

E: Okay, you can get in game, but you cannot create a toon, and logging in with an old one is kind of hazardous, since you run the risk of having it wiped by the powers that be. Be careful.

My PC is to slow to run EnB and Windows Media Player at the same time. When hunting, I also need to turn the graphics options waaayy down.
I need a new PC.
I also have a 5.25 drive somewhere in the attic. Haven't used it recently, so I don't know whether my disks have turned to ooze yet or not. I have the original SimCity (it came with both 3.5 and 5.25 disks), F19 Stealth Fighter, Out of This World and a football game all on 5.25 disks. Maybe some others I can't remember. My versions of Zork are all on a single CD compilation released by Interplay years back.
My 3.5 drive is actually an Super Disk drive that uses the IDE bus. It's about 50% faster (and much quieter) than a normal 3.5 drive, but still slows down my other IDE drives so I leave it unplugged/disabled. I should replace it with an external USB drive.

Currently, when the Client is updated, the update report only shows a list of files and whether they needed to be updated or not. There's a 'Comment' field, but this seems to be rarely used. It would be nice if the update report could provide a more verbose (i.e. human written) record of what the actual changes were. Maybe this could be tied into SVN somehow.

- Psionic Shield is gone. You will not be missed.
- Navigate has been reduced to match the Privateer. To keep the Terran's happy.
- Fold Space was added to level 5; after Kenu and myself settled with a roshambo (definition number 1) match. I won.
- Also, the big one... A new Build Skill. You'll have to wait to see. >.>
I'm going to change the post above, I am kinda going to be sad about the removal of Psionic Shield, since I used it plus the shield recharge combo.
Is this planned for after the wipe, or before?

Dunno if this is possible, but...
I suggest you either increase the maximum size of the Mission Log, or restrict the number of quests you can take on. I don't like it how quests can be 'hidden'.

Hull Drain sounds cool. Otherwise, maybe give them JE's Environmental Shield ability.

Yep. I think it pretty much covers/summarizes everything a person could want from a space combat/trading game like EnB, VS, Elite or IWar.

I'm experiencing frequent CTDs when logging in, gating or docking, as are many other people judging by the number of complaints in the game. There's usually some sort of "connection has been reset" or "client has terminated" message in the launcher when this happens. So far retrying a few times in a row seems to work.
