the XP compatibility mode uses DirectX just fine. I'm running it with all graphics options at max, getting 500FPS w/vsync off or 60 with it on,lol. Looks GREAT and runs smooth as silk. XP compatible mode OS inside Microsoft's virtual machine mode does not use DirectX, but compatibility mode for programs uses DirectX just fine.

I had the same problem, Here is how I fixed it. You have to take all the .exe files in all the folders including the launcher and go to the compatibility tab and select run as administrator AND run as Windows XP service pack 3. Then run the net7config.exe (and yes set these up with the admin and xp thing too) in the ebconfig folder. It works great now. Hope that helps. (in the earth and beyond folder - e&b.exe, gpatch.exe, patch.exe) (in the earth and beyond/release folder - client.exe) (in the earth and beyond/EBCONFIG folder - E&BConfig.exe, net7config.exe) there is also a NET7 folder in the C:/ drive and in it do it to detour.exe, launcher.exe, LaunchNet7.exe, and net7proxy.exe) You may not need them all but better to be safe than sorry.

OK this is my new acct name. (it was Nov8tr) Registration worked with my hotmail address for forums here and game acct setup. My att.net email address did not work. BUT.... now when I start the game I get it telling me the game is shutting down on blah blah blah and the refund retoric. I cancel that and the girl says You know what I need. Ok I put in my acct name and password and hit the right arrow at bottom to continue. The game IMMEDIATELY shuts off and I mean immediately. No warning, no error message no nothing. I have even watched the process in the task manager and it shuts down in less then 1/10th of one second. It tries to do nothing, it just flat turns off. Very very bizarre. Can't say I've ever seen a game shut down that fast. And I can't find any error messages in the game folder or in the net7 launcher folder. Any ideas? I would really like to play and I am open to suggestions. Thanks a ton. Oh yeah I have all the exe files in all the game and launcher folders set to run as administrator. I have also checked to make sure I have the .net files installed. And it is as it is on all windows7 systems. All files, drivers, etc are up to date with newest releases including system board drives, video drivers, sound drivers, etc. Passes all direct x test with flying colors. And the launcher appeared to have updated all the game files as well. Running Windows 7 64bit. 4gb hyperx ram ATI 5850 video card with 1024mb 6mb DSL connection ***************UPDATE*********** Ok I managed to get the game running. Had to play with some more files but working fine now. Created new character, started tutorial, undocked from station and another player blew me up. Hmm, lol I guess I'll wait till tomorrow to play.
