Some of them I can turn back the date and it works, the 'back to login' screen thing got fixed more or less by turning off packet optimisation. Still happens from time to time, and I think there's also a few underlying issues with my laptop that are causing some glitches but those aren't things that are easily fixed (graphics bugs for instance, bugger my cheap laptop and it's teensyweensy crappy video card heheh).
I did manage to play for a bit, only thing I need to solve now on the Linux end is getting sound.
reverting your time to make the cert valid isnt how its supposed to work though
-
you don't need that cert unless you're trying to run a server. The play cert will be invalid on any PC other than the play server.
point taken, that still doesnt change the fact, that this (obviously bought) certificate on the server is invalid/expired since 08.2009 and thus pretty much useless
as you can see its at least causing issues for the linux-guys. if it werent expired they wouldnt get errors regarding this.
a new and valid certificate would get rid of those issues.

I'm not sure if you already know this or not ... I have some news - you don't actually need the net7 play cert to get into the game Providing you don't use local-cert you're just using the certificate on the play server, which works.
Sometimes the easiest solutions are the best
Unless of course you're trying to get a local server to work under linux ... in which case - good luck with that. You shouldn't ever need to use the 'play' cert ever because that's tied to the play server, so if my understanding of certs is right, it won't work for you anyway. Use the 'local' cert and tweak whatever emulates your 'hosts' file on linux, to set the loopback.
the problem with the cert from play.net-7.org is, that its invalid. it expired in august last year. certificates need to be renewed after they expire or they wont be accepted anymore (that why for example your browser says the cert is invalid if you access https://play.net-7.org. of course it will work after you tell your browser to shut up and accept the cert anyway, but thats not how its supposed to work
maybe linux is more restrictive than windows on this and refuses to work with an invalid certificate.

This may be a stupid question but is there anywhere that tells us what goes into these updates we get automatically.
EG: net7 update 255
Could we get a section started on this forum where the devs could add info on whats in the lastest patch?
it would be quite sufficient if the devs updated the page that shows if you start the launcher with patchnotes

Hmm I thought all DNS issues were resolved by moving to a dedicated DNS host. Incidentally play.net-7.org > 87.106.15.95
www.enb-emulator.com > 87.106.15.95 so it would seem to be the same server unless some NAPT occurs.
yes, but the servers were up all the time.. we played and posted on the forums.. just the dns-zonefiles were screwed up.
-
zonefiles are what dns servers use to translate website domain names to their ip addresses (if memory serves)...
they update automatically at a prescribed time interval, so I can only assume that since enb does everything (and I am just guessing here) that since enbem does everything on their own servers that when the server crashes it does not respond and the record goes blank...
so when the server comes back up your computer has no way to find the domain... which is why the above poster said to add the record to your hosts file
its got nothing to do with any server dying.. dns has nothing to do with enb or the forums itself. someone just screwed up a zonefile, or the primary dns for the zome died.
again this got nothing to with the game or the webserver.

I agree Avani. I was thinking along the same lines earlier when I couldn't log on for several hours. 'Why are both down at the same time? This really makes communication inefficient.'
I don't understand why it's been set up this way. Seems myoptic to me. I hope someone realizes this as more than an inconvenience and shifts the forums elsewhere before we become so entrenched here it becomes too burdensome.
guys.. the servers were NOT down.. it was/is a DNS-problem which got ZERO to do with either the forums or the gameserver.
-
someone fix the zonefiles please.
-
This is working fine for me...
ya, it got fixed yesterday after i pmed a dev.. it wasnt working at the time.
btw, can someone fix the page not found error in the net7 launcher? i mean even a dummy page will do for the time beeing
-
ok I checked the server today and found the last remaining lag/blackhole source, it should all be fixed now (post restart that just occurred).
hmm did the stresstest sighnup disappear? the page gives an 404 error.
-
yeah... what he said
really?
good luck with recruitment

Works fine for me with gmail account.
with my own mailserver it worked as well.. i wonder whats the issue with gmx.
-
well im using gmx webmail and it doesnt work at all.
i will now try my own mailserver.. lets see if that works.
it not working with gmx is very poor though.
edit: my own mailserver gets contacted by the net-7 server but gets greylisted.. in 30 minutes i will know more.
-
would be cool if it worked..
it doesnt send confirmation emails. so yes you can create accounts, but no you cant use them because it doesnt send the emails
