  1. Whatever I do I can't get Net-7 to autoupdate on my laptop. The connection always timesout. Interestingly, after it timesout trying to update the proxy, it updates the client just fine. I'm having no updating issues on my desktop and I've made sure all hosts files and config files are exactly the same on both machines. They are both running WinXP. This just started happening a couple updates ago, and up until now, i've been able to play with a slightly outdated proxy. The recent update squashed that though. I was stuck on version 1.8.9. Even did a fresh install which dropped me back to 1.8.1. Same problem. At a loss for what to try next. EDIT; OMG ignore this post. A forced update fixed it just fine.
  2. I second giving build reactors to JT. If you look at the build skills, every race has at least 2 classes that can build to their racial strength except Jenquai. Engines = all 3 terrans, Shields = PT & PS, Reactors = JE only. Plus, as it stands, there is no building reason to pick a JT over a TT. TT can build everything that a JT can. At least with the PT they can build reactors.
  3. I remember a few people asking about this on the previous forum, and I myself was wondering how to do this. Unfortunately I forgot who gave out the details to this fix in "New Players" one day, but I am only passing along the fix that was given to me. In order to disable the constant sound effect that plays when Psi Shield is on you have to edit your sounds.ini file. It is in data/client/ini/, in your E&B installation directory. (e.g. C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Earth & Beyond) Open your sounds.ini file with notepad and do a text search for shield_idle. It should take you right to the parameters for the idle sound. Place a ; infront of the few lines in that section. It should look like this: ;***********psionic skill ********************** ;dko modified volume radius 08/01/02 because I'm hearing this all around the galaxy. [psionic_shield_idle.wav] ;SoundFilename=psionic_shield_idle.wav ;SoundPriority=1.000000 ;SoundLoopCount=0 ;SoundVolume=0.6400 ;SoundMaxVolRadius=400.0 ;SoundDropOffRadius=3000.0 ;SoundMaxVolRadius=200.0 ;SoundDropOffRadius=1500.0 Now just Save the file and VOILA! No more idle noise while Psi shield is active. Unfortunately, you'll have to re-do this fix after every client update, but it only takes a few seconds and is a small step in helping me keep my sanity. Enjoy the game!
