  1. I had Blazer ask me in the market today where my dps lists are.. they seem to have been removed.. So here they are all in 1 place. Forgive the cluttered look I was learning how to use excel.. These are in .xls and .xlsx for excel 2010 and newer users have fun. Maybe a moderator will pin these so there easier to find. One can hope.

[/quote] Just search for the word avatar nothing else some search programs are not very boolean and wont find it if you add the number to it so just use Avatar. Depending on your os it'll be in various places.
  3. I was thinking some people might be curious on how to make a 3d art asset. Well after a lack of guesses I need to remove the picture in case I want to add something else so I'm going to close this thread down I'm going to make evil 24 inches at the shoulders and the canopy looks to be 20-24 feet wide I'll photo shop this and measure it with his shoulders and go from there. I want to bet that the ps ship with a 24 foot wide canopy is going to be 250 feet across were talking about a ship twice the size of a ferry boat.. I'm going to put a 6 ft tall model in front of the ship so you can see what I'm getting at. So without further delay I'm going to start building the ship in 3dsmax and I'll figure out a way to post it for others to have a look at it. If I get the lighting and rendering right I might even make a quick video of it closing the wings and stuff and warping. Should be fun.
  6. I wonder if it's a programing issue and the games engine was changed enough that it wont read w3d files from other games.. Shaddex you are the dude on this have you you tried importing a file from say c&c renegades and seeing if it'll post in the game? I wonder is EA or westwood changed the engine a little and it's all imcompatible? with previous games ( the w3d files in the game wont post for me in renegade tools from weswood) Any thoughts on that?

I currently have a fresh install of 3dsmax 8 and 2013 32bit installed. Now I have a way to export w3d files from 3dsmax 8 it'll make this probably a lot easier for people to get things made. Maybe a forum admin can make us a 3d editing thread and we can just go there and keep all this stuff centralized.

I did all that with ore in the game and the jupiter vendor, refine and build cost it's listed there as in the game with the negotiate levels next to the prices if you want to verify it yourself MargeChavez is a 150+ terran scout with lvl 5 negotiate and Tradermagoo is a 150+ PP with level 5 negotiate and Blondie is a 150+ tt with lvl 7 negotiate

You might like this I get an error in 3dsmax 2013 32bit with this but it shows export to w3d files in the import/export in 3dsmax 2008 Might make peoples days much easier. Darkk this is the problem I was running into with 3dsmax 2013 this makes it possible to build models in 3dsmax and make them useable by e&b. Importing is easy i posted that method in the first discussion about this subject. Exporting thats been the problem and saving in a format gmax/renx can use was damned difficult this solved the problem if you have 3dsmax 8

Okay thats 1 guess Stanig since you can make a toon on the dev server make a Magister Magna level ps (135 hull) and look at it docked then undock it and switch back and forth with f9 to go fps to default and see the difference( hold crlt down and swing the camera around to face the ship) is that canopy at the front really 35 feet across?

Someone asked me today in the forums how much a DG costs to build from scratch since he didn't have ores and a eye so i spent a bit of time figuring out out so for the sake of argument here is my cost to build a DG with the negotiate level for each level of the build.   13. Can you guys tell me how big you think the right hand is, the monitors and the glass in front of the avatar. I'm really curious to see what you guys think it is vrs what 3dsmax is telling me.. ( for a hint the monitor on the right measure 2 feet 2 inches across) I will tell you standing the model ( dude seated) is 6 ft tall 250lbs I'm 6ft 5 in real life and my pointer finger is longer and thumbs about the same I held it up in front of a 15inch 16:10 monitor and it is about 1/4 the width of my laptops screen. Lets see what your guesses are. My point here is I'm trying to figure out how wide the canopy over the driving area is so i can scale the model correctly the hex portions in the window appear to me as they are 12 inches wide but if 3dsmax measures it at 2 feet uhhh how big are these damned things..
  14. coolmax will not export from what I've seen. And it's the one I use for importing the models again I can't get it to export as a w3d thats where the 3dsmax 8 comes in if what i saw and read online is right we can't export w3d files.. I'm working on it..

I was doing a bit of research on how to create the w3d files we need to change the art in the game and I was watching a video on it and noticed 3dsmax 8 natively supports .w3d files and creates and saves them from a menu. I also reread the forum posts from a different website and it says w3d support was dropped in 3dsmax 9 and newer. If anyone has a copy of 3dsmax 8 they do not need or can verify that it supports .w3d files natively please respond to this thread.

Since we have gone to beta a lot of new players have come into the game and I thought it would be a good time to update the method of creating a new toon/the 3 new classes and npc skin based toons. First step is to go to www.net-7.org and under Main click on it and open downloads. You will need the startship creator.exe. It's in the download list. I typically install it into the game install folder ( when asked for a location just target your game install folder it'll take care of the rest). When you have it installed there is a few things you need to do first. And that starts the next section. Vista/7 users first then all windows users then the actual steps to making a new avatar. All right for the preliminaries windows xp users can skip this part I'll add you back in a paragraph or two later on. Number 1... Vista/7 users this is for you only. Open your Starship And Character Creator folder (where you installed it to) and find the Character and Starship Creator.exe. Right click this and click properties/ then click the compatibility tab/click "Run this program in compatibility mode for" ( check the box) select windows xp pro service pack 3 Second step is to click at the bottom "run as administrator" check the box click apply then okay. Okay windows xp users you can follow along now. Step 2 While in the Starship and Chracter creator folder right click the Character and Starship Creator.exe and create a shortcut. Step 3 Save the shortcut to a place you will remember it. Step 4 Right click the shortcut you just made and click properties and find the target line. Step 5 In the target line is some text like this "U:\Earth & Beyond\Character and Starship Creator\Character and Starship Creator.exe" ( I have my game installed to a drive other then the default one) what you want to do is add a space after then .exe" and add the text -noclassrestrictions and make the target line like this "U:\Earth & Beyond\Character and Starship Creator\Character and Starship Creator.exe" -noclassrestrictions you must have the space after the exe" if you don't it wont work. Click apply and okay. Now comes the fun part Step 6 Fire up the starship creator with the modified shortcut. Step 7 All right you opened the program and you see Megan standing there smiling at you and there is a short talk and some loud music click next to get to the Race/class screen with the avatars.( at this point if you press the windows key or alt tab out and mute the program i wont know or argue with you) Step 8. After you click next at Megan You will come out into the Choose profession screen. Step 9. ( the important part) use the arrows at the bottom of the screen to switch between the toons and you will see the 3 new professions in the list. Lets Pick a Jenquai Seeker, so you can see the new class in the creator. Click Next when you have the race/class selected. Use the arrows in the creator only it wont work using the keyboard keys use the left arrow and click it twice to bring up the Jenquai Seeker Avatar and click on next. Step 10. You have selected a new avatar (for this i'll refer to a seeker since it's the same as the rest) .You will now be taken into the male/female appearance screen. Select male or female and your appearance and go thru your ship setup ( i made mine female tall red headed and the ship looks like the smily face in dirk gently if you understand the reference) From this point it's straight forward when you get to the end it'll save your character in a folder and you can move it around ( i'll get to that in a moment) Step 11. You have created your character and saved it you can now use it ingame. Once the server has saved the avatar and you can use it you can save the avatar elsewhere just remember to put it back into the same folder so the game an find it if you want to change it. Also you can send the dat file to people and they can use the creator and make there own new toons if they have difficulty following this tutorial. The files are about 500kb each so would eat up my upload limit but feel free to share among yourselves. Step 12 Extra credit assignment and how to place your avatar in different slots in game. Step 13. Moving you newly created avatar around. Step 14. You will need a good search program to search your hard drive as your new character can be copied and saved. Pretty cool huh > . Step 15. I use Agent ransack as my hard drive search utility since windows 7 default search sucks.. Really.. it sucks. Use your search program and search your C:\ drive for the word Avatar. Windows 7 64bit users it's here at C:\Users\All Users\Westwood Studios\Earth and Beyond\Character and Starship Creator\Avatar1.dat This is where your new character is saved to. They are named Avatar1-2-3-4-5.dat This particular one was named number 1. XP and Vista users the folder will be different then 7 users so please search for yours. Okay if you want to save the character to a different slot ( say your account is fairly full and you want to save it in the middle spot) it's pretty easy to do. The front 3 spots are numbered 3 2 1 ( from left to right) and 5 and 4 in the back( left to right) your options are Avatar1 Avatar2 Avatar3 Avatar4 Avatar5 all ending with .dat.. YOU MUST leave the Avatar.dat in this folder until you have added it to an account ingame. Once thats done the server saved it. You can reinstall your game and it'll always be there. Once the server has downloaded it and you can use it I add the character name to the name ( in this case (McBarker)Avatar4.dat for when i made my latest Progen Privateer. With these created characters there is 1 drawback.. you cannot change them ingame using the ingame builder for the 3 new classes( maybe some brightboy can solve how to add the new ones ingame which would be a big help). Not to say you can't change them But you cannot change the height/wieght/ general looks of the 3 new classes in the game itself you need to use the character creator for that. so be warned. Step 16. NPC and extra credit.. So you want to be TZU he is a pretty good looking (albiet needs a shave) avatar and you want to make him to use with your armada. Well this parts for you. Fire up the modified shortcut froma above. and get to the Male/Female screen where you pick your sex and attributes it's called the Avatar Customization page. When in this screen Simply press the N key it'll scroll thru the NPC skins availble to you. Some might need to use CRTL N but it does the same thing. 2 Things about using NPC skins 1 THEY ARE ALL TERRAN ENFORCERS. You cannot change anything abaoul the avatars other then there ships if you try you will crash the game i gaurentee it. 2. If you attempt to use the avatars name as your own, blacklung or another gm will make you change your avatars name. if you use the avatar and act like a e&b staff you will be banned. I will not tell you how i came to use MiguelChavez as an avatar name I will tell you I've had it a long time and I have kept my agreement with the gm's and dev's we made and can continue to use it unless I quit the game. If at such time they deem I need to change it I will. So unless you are a staff member or a member in good standing do not try it.. One of the rules i had to abide by was i must never act like a staff member or act like i'm the npc. Miguel as a avatar is not in the game and i use Admiral herrerra's skin for him. Second rule i had to follow is everyone had to know it was me using the skin and name so you knew i was not a staff member. Got it don't be a fool and try it. WARNING if you attempt to edit an npc skin your game will crash. Do not try it, You were warned. Lets see if I missed anything please post it in the thread and I can edit this text to include it. Blacklung or any other gm's want to add this as a pinned item to this forum is welcome to or to move it as needed. If i need to change anything or a gm want to add the voice and fear of a game diety to this to make sure you do not attempt any monkey business please do so. Good Luck and happy editing.
  17. dude.. little do you know.. i want to thank Zackman for his prompt courteous service in fixing my 26 personal toons and 16 personal accounts they are as i wanted them originally and waited + years for. I am prostrate at his greatness and thank him profusely and extravagantly and humbly for his god like talents at the database manipulations.. ( looks for more cheese to lay on the pie) Thanks zackman you are a god among me.. wait I said that.. Keep up the good work.
  18. Okay zack and shaddex i'm really getting disgruntled about net-7.org and my accounts not showing up and not being on the right email address and a long list of complaints.. 1. I cannot change email addresses/accounts in net-7.org thats grievious error number 1 that needs to be fixed.. i have 3 accounts and i'm stuck viewing my gdamned vault accounts. ^^^^ biggest but certainly not my only peeve.. 2. It will not display my accounts correctly. I had sneaky help me by changing my accounts to the email address i wanted them on. it's simple i wanted my 9 play toons ( aka the magoo's) on 1 email. 2 I wanted my personal vaults on the second email account. Since this point my accounts wont show up at all. be nice to have access to all 26 of my personal avatars.. I really wished you would fix the bugs about this. 3. I'm going to stop here to keep the language clean.. I'm really bent atm about the previous 2 and if you can address this, send me a message in the forums or something I can explain in detail what is wrong.

If you want to learn to make 2d mesh and skins to change the appearance of the ingame models, the tools i provided and a little research on google and 3d graphics sites will get you a bit of the way there. I have about 75gb of video and tutorials and books on nothing but 3d games and game editing and model building. I originally started out making maps for tfc way back in the day and i picked the interest back up all these years later. Thing is learning to use gmax/3dsmax is a hands on learning experience, and right now i am researching how to add a picture a friend provided of his wifes family crest to 3dsmax and build a 3d asset out of it so he can use it in second life. It's been quite a challenge learning how to use a high end 3d program.
  22. I thought since I'm doing this side work for kyp that I would explain some of what I'm doing how i'm doing it and what I used to do it. Westwood studios built us a game that has worn well over the years. The used the Command and Conquer Renegade engine. Luckily for us that means we have some game tools available to modify and change a few things and even the ability to create new files animations and mission audio files. I am not going to get into the nuts and bolts of creating animations, or 2d art because frankly I don't know how. I am doing something else and i will provide an example at the end so you can see what I'm doing. First thing you need to know is this game uses a few file and folder formats that are proprietary to game engines and are fairly universal. Second this game uses a mixture of mp3 and wav audio files. The art and 2d and rendering is based on the dds plugin from nvidia available here [url="http://developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-texture-tools-adobe-photoshop"]http://developer.nvi...adobe-photoshop[/url] You will also need a program that can use photoshop plugins www.adobe.com/downloads/ for a free copy of adobe photoshop is available here. Purchasing is optional. Most good 2d art programs gimp photoshop and others can use the plugin. Irfan viewer is also handy as it'll show the dds files and play the mp3 audio files used throughout the games files. Now back to the art files since what I'm doing is straight forward and very tedious. First open Gmax-renX or 3dsmax or your 3d tools of choice. I will use gmax since 3dsmax and gmax do the same thing. Open gmax on your desktop when open and you are ready make sure gmax is targeted and press CRTL K to bring up the w3d importer. once you have done that and navigate to your unpacked mix art file folders and open lets say file number AS01A.W3D this is a picture of a rather large asteroid like you might find in say Saturn or Inverness or.. various other places. This is a basic game asset used to fill out sectors with things to look at to give your eye something to do. There are thousands of little files and big files and stuff all over these files. Since we are not editing the mix files directly and just viewing files and tinkering with 3d modeling engines, were not disturbing the actual game and if you have enough computer you could do both of these at the same time. I would suggest not trying to do this with 3dsmax and games running but I digress you were warned. From here it's straight modeling and tweaking adding colors etc to things. The original texture files and art files are in .dds format you can browse thru the with irfanviewer, you can work at mixing and matching files. I had the V'rix cl 66 ships from roc 2 open and i was looking for the textures one day.. You can make your own textures and 2d skins for things etc.. just remember the game engine will not recognize custom files and animations can and will be broken, The dev team has a person that knows how to mess with mix files i do not and it outside the scope of this article. I'm finding with gmax it's not able to import the .dds files from the game. You might say who cares.. the problem is these are layered files and contain animation information for the models and places they are supposed to fit. so it's not a straight forward thing to do. Just saying so you know as this is outside my general knowledgebase and if you want to explain this to others. i hope this forum post goes on a long time and people can share there knowledge with others. If I get really ambitious i might do all 9 classes. might even take the lucky coin 2d file and imprint net-7 on it Make a decal for my guild (A new one) If you guys already know how to do this kinda stuff maybe you can do some easy tutorials for others and get a few people interested in 3d.   24. well with the server down that means more work on the starter missions and faction list...it's all darkk and kenu's fault.. there I said it two jenquai's killed the server.
