1. I was there on a progen warrior named Tenkaris. Hung out in a lightning Troopers for a while. Was dumb and deleted my character when the sunset was announced

later used accounts provided by GoodHumorBoy and Sealclubber's brother to play Terran enforcers. Hung out with the Wizards of Doom until the end.

AeroSpaceHog is a name I don't see on the list, but otherwise lots of nostalgia :D

2. Unsure when I started, but played on Galileo. Had a progen warrior named Tenkaris that I played until the Sunset announcement, when I got so mad I deleted my character.

I don't remember the name of the forum ENB players posted on but I remember posting there and coming back to check things out, talking to people I played with, and ended up gifted accounts to play with until Sunset, so I also inherited terran enforcers named Mazzerrackham and Wantosr later on.

The guilds I remember bonding with the most were Lightning Troopers, who left for EVE eventually... and Wizards of Doom, though I was not with them until well after the sunset announcement.

I also came back to the emulator around the 2010 stress test ... 3? era? I played a TT/TE Combo Alyseria and Adama, I ran a guild called The Illuminati.. I eventually lost interest, and came back to see another wipe had happened.

But I obviously still think about this game every so often and check in! Anyone remember me from any of this?

Some actually do say "Write this down" cuz I aint sayin it again haha. But rule of thumb anything B puts out take some notes cuz they definitely want you use your noggin.
Yeah I was doing the Menace mission for the PP and the NPC wanted 10 each of L2 ABC comps, and he said write this down, I won't repeat myself. :) I thought it was funny, considering I had posted that only minutes before logging in. :P

That is B's goal. He provides all the information needed, but just once. How else do you implement difficulty into a game where skill is measured by the ability to push a button when needed?
I guess that's one way, but a little warning could be nice... like "Now I'm only gonna say this once..."
5. I certainly charged in the beginning of ST4 when we were all leveling up and competing to get all the hot maps. It's just been long enough that the market is flooded.

I'm sure people remember my 15 Million Crimson Force Barrier.

Until I mapped the CFB, only Doc had it and he was looking for 50+ million or something rare loot-wise. He was holding auctions. The market competition was there back then. :P
6. Static have been having a horrible time in the Fish Bowl recently. Some of us have found disabling sound in the game config seems to help a bit, but lots of lag and disconnections are making us less enthusiastic to risk our activation devices when we can't guarantee raid completion.

But, I'll be in class tomorrow until 8pm central so I'm not sure if I can organize any raids during your run, but I hope it goes well. Keep up the good work, Tien.

actually writing for missions and such is all you could really do in terms of writing and you might as well be dev if you want to do those things.

That sounds fun to me.

I've actually at multiple times considered lending myself to the project for the sole purpose of digging through the tons of NPC text and weeding out all the spelling and grammar errors. It drives me crazy when I see it, and I think the game's presentation would be improved... but joining staff would mean I'd have to shun my guild and stuff, right? ;)
8. Bumping thread again because I think the sig generator may be looking at outdated information. I have refreshed my JE's sig image a few times and it's not showing him at 136 or whatever I have him at. I think it may be because we just switched servers, I imagine you'll be able to rectify this in no time at all. ;)

Stress test does not relate to the stress of the end user... its the stress imposed on the server platform, to gain data on wether or not the code can hold a community.

Code constantly evolves and these problems occur... cant be helped, people getting upset doesnt fix the issue.... what does is good solid information and bug reports.

Anyway, we've had this discussion several times in the past....

</input>
...I know that, it was a play on words, Slayerman.

Take it easy. We can't make very solid bug reports when we crash 5 seconds into the game, and you can't count on the majority of the player base taking that kind of approach either, you will ALWAYS be disappointed if you do.

Port forwarding won't really help, because you don't need any connections coming into your computer to run the game. What exactly is the issue you're having?
"Endless Crash to Desktop," just like everyone else who's been stuck on the forums asking for help.

You guys made me start a free WoW trial last night :(

(Game sucks but at least I could play it)

I only talked about port forwarding because Tien suggested it was part of the issue and gave us ports earlier in the thread, I was responding to him and saying I forwarded what I could to no avail, hoping to help you guys figure out the issue.

Oh the joys of a STRESS TEST on a free to play game .....
Regardless, the past year of stress testing has been a lot less STRESSFUL than the last day of it, so you shouldn't be surprised people are upset they can't play the game they love, you should take it as a good sign that you guys are doing a good job. No need to get into hissy fits with the player base, not going to ingratiate yourself with anyone having an attitude like that.

I'm trying out the Lock Port checkbox... so far so good. It's better than yesterday, I can make it a few minute without crashing, but gating seems to be hit or miss, so far CTDing about 50% of the time... which is something I'm semi-used to but the rate still seems high... I'll keep playing and see what happens. I at least was able to make it out of sector, seems to have worked as Tien expected. Seems weird to be that all of our network hardware was fine on the old server then suddenly have this issue across a large portion of userbase on the new hardware. Did you guys change the way something was handled?

I'm crashing anywhere from the loading screen to making it into the station and starting to move....
Same here. crash at proxy, crash at loading screen, crash at char select, crash at galaxy map

When I get in the game I don't touch anything, takes a few seconds and crash

no clue

I have to agree with the earlier statements that the Terran Scout is the best to start with.
If you are a 'lone wolf' and like to check out the entire universe by yourself the Scout is you best option. While fighting classes allow you to just bash into a new region without thinking because you can kill fairly everything that's in your weapons range, they lack the ability to level up your explore level. This is where the Scout has the biggest advantage: due to the navigate skill, that gives you more combat speed and in the higher levels adds some speed to your warp and also let you engage warp very quickly due to a reduction of cooldown time, you dont have to worry about attacking mobs either. You just stop - take a quick look around to enjoy the area - and bash off again before the mobs know you where there in the first place. If you cleared all of one sectors navepoints you can then go to you favorite spot and start clearing asteroid fields for field-clear-bonusses and have you explore level up in no time. After that when your cargo is stuffed with ores and other goodies you got from hulks and a few mobs that tried to get to you while running into you cloud of missiles, never being able to reach you due to the range of your weapons, you can go to the next spacestation and refine your ores before selling them to see your trade-level fly upwards.
You will also see that mining has some extra benefits as some high-level ammo requires huge ammounts of certain raw ores that players will pay good credits for, adding to fill up your ingame-bankaccount.
Last but not least, as previously stated, the scout can kill almost everything alone due to his missile weapons. If you are lucky enough to obtain the 'right' combination of launchers and devices you will be able to shoot as far as 9k which is a range only very few boss-mobs can equall. Having only 4 launchers it will take just a little longer then with a Terran Enforcer.
just a little longer than an Enforcer is not true at all. Enforcers have Rally, Critical Targeting, and access to more turbo on their weapons. A critical hit on a TS is like a miracle!

I know it's been touched on a few posts above, but play as a TS or a TT and do combat in groups and see how quickly you want a TE around so you can have rally cast on you. Terran groups are actually a lot of fun, the combination of buffs and talents and being able to fire straight backwards is awesome.

As a newbie, aka back when live started, I played warriors. I loved the combat aspect of the game. When I found the emulator, ultimately I learned that I had a knack for playing a TT. I liked how they could build every race. In live they were the only class that did shield recharging so they were vital for combat. Nobody can say it's hard to combat level a TT, people always want a healer. Alyseria is the best character I've got, and she's made all my other characters better with her massive build lists, but it takes a certain person to enjoy the trader class, they're certainly not the easiest... I would say enforcer takes that title.

That's cool - understand, I'm in no way trying to pull a fast one and exploit anything. Just curious about what happens if I have a builder char that I'd like to temporarily stop building something so he/she can, say, loadout a big beaming setup and go raise RD faction easily and then drop the beam skill and go back to building - and have their blueprints intact.

Thanks!
Alyseria had max build engine and mapped the Prismatic Dragon Wing L9 engine, and made a 200%. She could only use L5 engines at the time...

When CF Came out she CFed negotiate and build engines so she could max engine tech instead and become a great combat TT. Build engines was completely gone.

I have since re-CFed and refilled my Build Engines skill. I still have every map I had before, so be at ease when it comes to temporarily CFing build skills. You won't be able to map anything, but you will retain previous maps.

aha, but this is an important distinction, Maniac hit on it.

Out of a gun, projectiles travel very quickly, but can only cover short distances, effectively (Like a Dwarf, if you've paid attention to Gimli on the LOTR movies)
Projectile range is about 5k

Out of an ML/Silo missiles start out slowly but have those guidance systems and rocket propulsion to speed them up to a maximum speed along their flight path.
Missile range is up to about 9k I think, if set up properly at least that was the way in live. I haven't played around enough with it yet since we've not gotten into balancing.
8.8k was about as good as missile range could get on a properly geared Terran (warriors with a 200% rage on have the best range buff)

But regardless any shortcomings people perceive with missiles based on travel speed/time and all that are moot when you consider it's the only weapon that can fire omni-directional. This allows for full speed kiting and other advantages. I've definitely never seen missile paths as being time wasters, it's all coded in a specific way... it's just a design choice to make different missiles unique from eachother. If every missile graphic fired straight I'd get pretty bored of it. I like the juxtaposition of curly purple black caster missiles with the swooping bile missiles.
15. Sorry to bump this thread if it's not the appropriate one

but wanted to mention that max hull TSes are still titled Warrant Officer in the sig generated but the rank has been changed to Elite Ranger. Small, nitpicky comment, just thought I would mention it.
16. Yeah there's definitely something up. I've deleted my net7proxy so it would grab a fresh one from the server and it's not the new one. Thinking the net7proxy file on the server isn't the new one for some reason, but no idea what else would cause it to appear that way.
