  1. Also, keep in mind that the higher grade engines will be a lot more useful by the time we get to "live" again. There won't be any more of this taking engine tech to IV Or V and it being good enough for end-game... at least not unless you want to gimp yourself before you ever get started.

I hope the fix won't be by nerfing the lower-level engines. :)

  2. For anyone who doesn't observe it:

Narrow your browser window until the pages of a multiple page thread almost touch the name of the thread starter and then mouse over the thread title.

Ahh okay... switched to Terran Theme and narrowed the window. The "Preview Post" icon that pops up seems to be the culprit.

I use the IP Board theme, doesn't seem to be affected by window size.

  3. One thing to keep in mind though... Playing a game using zero-g physics in a vacuum would be neigh unplayable especially with the limited controls we have through the client. It would appear EnB uses something similar to neutral buoyancy and underwater physics. It's not ultra-realistic but it gets the job done. You get the feeling of floating in space without the uncontrollable movement and you do eventually come to a stop if you shut the engines off.

  4. I know we have some science geeks that play this game, so correct me if I'm wrong, but in zero gravity, should mass make a difference in how quickly an object moves when thrust is initiated?

Mass is determined by measuring the inertia of an object. That is: "its resistance to an effort made to change its state of motion." So in other words, without going into a lot of detail, yes. :D

The more massive an object is, the more thrust is needed to change its direction.

    F = d/dt(mv)

Zero G just means we don't have to deal with pesky things like friction.

  5. I run Win7 64bit and don't have nearly as much issues that people are having.

    Things I did:

    • Install E&B to default location as usual.
    • Install Net-7 Proxy to a system-unprotected area. ie C:\Net-7 not in C:\Program Files\Net-7
    • Right clicked the Net-7 executable and set compatibility to run as administrator.
    • Run Net-7 proxy and click yes on prompt. Update runs as usual once e&b.exe is located.
    • Locate e&b config executable and set compatibility mode to run as administrator. Run to set graphics settings.
    • Start game via Net-7 launcher after verifying Packet Opt is enabled.

Everything is still running fine in Win7 mode. (I run MS Security Essentials for AV fyi)

  6. Ah yes, this is referred to in the industry as "Breaking the 4th Wall". Sorry to hear that this is occurring. Do you have any specific missions in mind where it happens?

It was in the final dialogue I had with the Tiberius Shipyard for my lvl75 hull upgrade. Something about how to get and use the new tokens in the game. It was probably just quickly written down as a place holder to be reworded later given the current state of flux that are the Progen missions. :)

  7. Well, accents do add a bit to the overall immersion if they are done correctly. I was more concerned about NPC's talking about game mechanics and jumping in and out of character. The NPC does not know that they are just part of a game world. Leave spelling out the literal game mechanics to the FAQ and patch notes. If an NPC has to tell a player how an ingame mechanic works, do it in character. :)

  8. To get back on topic... *snickers* :)

I am a role-player by heart and I love to lose myself in any given setting. Given that, I can normally overlook spelling errors and the like. We are still in pre-beta so there are other things to get working before we get the polish on. One thing however that irks me is when the NPC's dialogue talks to you out of character. That just ruins the immersion aspect entirely for me.

I recall doing my lvl75 PS hull upgrade and the NPC at the shipyard spoke about tokens. I cannot remember the text exactly and it is not a bug-report per se... This is more of a suggestion: It would be nice to have NPC dialogue worded in character and not talk about game elements directly. In the future I will try to take note of it and offer suggestions on how to reword it in the bugs section.

This is probably me just being nit-picky though... Getting the Progen missions all cleaned up is a major undertaking and I appreciate all the hard work you have done thus far Byakhee. I am sure some of us can agree to disagree on some of the direction you have taken however. ;)
