I just installed to a new windows 7 build. I did not set anything to run in compatibility mode. Just left everything alone after install and it has run fine. Maybe try turning off compatibility mode?

Definitely something that would be useful either here or on the wiki.
I've played this game for a long long time and even I forget what they are from time to time.

Been a long time since I've messed around with The Emu. Lots of nice new additions and things seem to be going quite well. Last time I played was probably back in ST3 or early in ST4.
Love the off-line additions too. Account vault! Awesome! Being able to see my build list off-line! Even better!
Cheers to the devs and everyone who works on the game and site! You guys are great and have really done some wonderful things while I've been away!
Thanks for everything you've done!
See you all in game!

Wow it feels good to be back. Been awhile since I've wandered these parts. :)

Ahhh... I love this. It just reminds me of the old forums, which I sadly miss.
Love the update.
Edit: include missing words.

I imagine players stuck in starbases and stations with 30 high level mobs waiting just outside to pulverize the player the second they launch.
Sounds fun.

I'd like to suggest adding links to the EnB Config and Net-7 Config files.
Seems people sometimes have a tough time locating those files. Links would Rawk!
Now back to your regularly scheduled programming (see what I did there)

Condolences to you and your family. Sorry for your loss.
If only... call forward

...or, just consider that maybe JE, PE, TE were not meant to use ammo-based weapons as their primary choice Sure, they _can_ use them, if they want, but the trade-off, the sacrifice, the balance of this choice is the cargo space taken up by ammo and the need to take breaks in combat to have ammo made for them.
The trade-off and balance for warrior & trader classes is both in ammo space in the cargo vs. loot space, and in the time & cost to build the ammo, vs the superior damage and range of these weapons. If a PW for example, chooses to go out on a long period of combat-only gameplay, then they must load up their cargo full with ammo if they don't want to have any breaks in the action. This means no loot, no Trade XP. The PW will only get combat XP and looted credits, but will get quite a bit of combat XP. Balance. Trade-offs pro & con. It works. The PW could have chosen to equip beams instead, but they sacrifice range, and overall damage ability and skill useage (less free reactor available after beam use).
Probably best to leave as it is for now

Just as a suggestion, maybe we should pin the instructions for generating the new classes in the GD forum.
I know its pinned in the downloads section (which is the proper place for it), but it seems there is a post in the GD forum about it at least once a week.
I'm just sayin...

Nice little guide and good tips.
Nicely done.

Wipe Now and Wipe Often. The early part of the game is the most fun anyway. Maybe auto-wipe any player that gets above 100 too.
Lol
I wouldn't have said it myself, but I do kinda agree with this.

If the color scheme changes in the Emu that is fine with me, but Azasha is right. They are not how they were in Live. I don't really care one way or another. Unfortunately I don't have any screenies from Live to prove it. Sorry.

Same thing happened to me a few days ago. Except my hull was brought to 0, not a negative number. My thought was that in the ST maybe you needed to achieve a negative number before you were blown up. But maybe I should have been destroyed after all.
Oh well, it was nice not having to tow or JS.

A / command would be great for this. Something like /showreg or something.
This!
Please do it.
Thank you.

Not an issue as far as Im concerned. It just doesnt happen to me often enough for it to be an issue with me.
But definitely file this under 'polish'. Would be nice to see it fixed, but it can wait till the game is farther along in its development.

If you're being serious, I must voice the opinion that I don't find deciphering Growlz speak the least bit of fun. its easy enough but gives me a headache... decipherment we did in Live was fun because there was actually a system you had to figure out, and there was a more solid story reason to do it. But this is just torture, reading 5 letter nonsense.. no offense, ofc.
I agree with the above statement. I very much have enjoyed reading some of Growlz posts and chat. And I love the whole role playing thing. But there comes a point where its just not fun any more.
IMO, when it comes to Growlz-speak, if it is important info for the community or players, it needs to be kept to a minimum. I just loose my patience for interpreting after 2 or 3 sentences. You have to figure at some point you are going to loose your audience.
Just something to think about. Good luck.
Edit: Bah! stupid quotes!

EA = satan
EMU devs = angels

First question: How many players have found it difficult and frustrating to Find, Understand, and Download all information needed WITHOUT help from another player.
Second question: How many players required assistance from someone else to find and understand how to get going?
Third question: How many players agree that there needs to be a change ASAP to the website to make it more user friendly for players to get all information from a clear, plain, and easy to find location on the main load in page? OR a comparable option that simplifies the process to what it is now?
1. Yes. Like you, when I first tried to install (back in ST2) I thought the process of installation and finding the info was really bad. After getting installed and getting in game that old excitement came back and I convinced a bunch of other people to install and try it out. I've since installed this game on about 20 different machines (and just about every conceivable operating system) and no longer find the process difficult or convoluted.
Through these numerous installs I've come to understand why it isn't easier. I won't go into it here, but there are a number of reasons why this isn't simpler. Another thing to keep in mind... even when this game actually goes into alpha testing (then beta testing and finally 'live') it will not likely ever be a 'one click' install.
Does that mean the process can't be refined or improved? Not at all, but its also not as bad as it may initially seem. Especially for those with less computer 'knowhow'. I consider myself a 'user'. I am a computer user, not a programer, developer, or computer genius. I don't work in the computer or IT industry and am not in any way involved in maintaining or using computers at work. So if I can eventually figure all this out, it can't really be that bad. Can it? (Not to mention it has been quite edifying).
2. I did not require another player's assistance for installation. I did however check the forums a couple of times when I ran into issues that I hadn't before (especially in regards to operating systems I wasn't familiar with, or don't use). The answers are there, they may sometimes take a few minutes to find, but never took me very long.
3. I don't think this needs to be addressed ASAP. I think it should get some attention, but not more than is being given to it right now. The process isn't really that difficult. And given the current status of the game (meaning: Stress Test, not even in alpha test phase), I suspect that there will be more work done on it as the project progresses. I imagine there are other things more important right now.
It will certainly become much more important as the project nears an actual 'Live' publish. And there is no doubt, it could be better right now, but if over 1,2000 people can make accounts and characters within the first 24 hours of ST4 going live, then it can't be that bad. (referencing this post)
I am sure that things will improve, I'm just not sure if it will be as soon as the OP hopes. So much for my opinion.

This thread should help.

Wanted to do a little update here.
I was running into these same problems and was able to get things fixed by matching screen res in config to match desktop settings. But like others, I was going crazy with the wonky distortion on a widescreen monitor.
What I found was that you only need to reset the latest updates/patches after running config. So I reset my resolution to something smaller (and in the proper aspect ratio) than my desktop and did the 'reset updates' thing after running the config for the settings I wanted. Now I can not only get in game, but I can run it in window mode and at the resolution I want and no more wonky aspect ratio.
So...
Step 1: Run EnB config at settings you want.
Step 2: Run Net-7 Launcher
Step 3: In upper left of Net-7 Launcher window and click 'Launcher' button, then click 'reset updates'
Step 4: Close launcher (if updates don't automatically begin)
Step 5: Run Launcher (let updates run if they havent already)
Step 6: Login and play!
Hurray for EnB!
Edit: You may need to set your resolution to match the desktop settings and login at least once before resetting to a new resolution and resetting updates for this to work.

Gratz Slayerman.
I like where this is going. Your site is great. To make it an official part of the emu project only seems logical. Great work by you and the team. Thank you very much.

Most of the time when I hit the sort button its because of it's location. I think moving the button would solve a lot of my problem. That's probably a client issue, but still that would be an improvement in my opinion. Any chance of moving the sort button to a location less likely to be accidentally hit?
