It would be prudent to subscribe to check stuff out and maybe get some ideas for changes and improvements to the emulator. Which is why I imagine the devs would subscribe, actually.
EDIT: Discussions like this are probably bad for the forum, on second thought. EA's legal department might look the other way indefinitely, but we certainly do not improve our odds by openly bashing the IP's rightful owner in a public forum.

I was disturbed by the recent sea (space?) change in NASA's budget and manned space visions. But this could be a blessing in disguise.
Corporations (love'em or hate'em) will take far more and greater risks for their money than NASA would or could. So, while NASA is sending potentially thousands of robots to other stellar bodies for the price of a dozen manned missions over the next decades, MicroSpace and Googleverse and Virgin Galactic can start shoveling tourists (and eventually industry) into space for gradually cheaper rates.
And they will. Because people will line up for the tickets. They already are. Just ask the telecommunications corps. Ask Richard Branson's long line of anxious, pre-paid space tourists. A variety of industries will be more efficient and cost effective in space-- it's getting up there that's been the problem for corporations. Advances in technology are beginning to change that.
As for whether national debts are more important than space exploration? That's a matter of perspective, and priority. If you add up all of history, comets have done far more damage to life on Earth than national debts. Statistically, life on Earth is more than 100,000 years overdue for an extinction level event such as a comet would provide.
If a comet were confirmed to be on course with Earth today, we would all change our priorities instantly. And yet, by that time, our fates would be sealed anyway (regardless of what movies have portrayed). But many of us prefer arbitrary choices. Debt or space. Global warming or space. War or space. Oil dependence or space. Never mind the fact that space colonization could bring with it an abundance of minerals, industry, money and could move pollution-causing industries harmlessly above the atmosphere.
Arbitrary decisions are easier to manage in our heads, they make our lives feel simpler. But do you ever hear anyone debating on whether they ought to be either exhaling or inhaling all day long? Our descendants could suffer for our short-sightedness and refusal to grow beyond our place of origin.

The GMs and devs might not be aware of this problem with factions unless they happen to check General Discussion. I'd report the bug via the in-game help menu (which is working now); or the Technical Support sub-forum. General Discussion is more for us players to yap about random stuff.

All aboard, folks.

Welcome to EnB, Rain! The server is down today (hey it's a stress test) but it is often stable for long periods of time now. (Someone mentioned 200 hours without a crash in-game last night.)
Go to http://www.net-7.org/ and click on the FAQ button to see about getting into the game when it comes back online. It's a very easy process.

I saw it get up to 100 active users a few minutes ago.
Srsly. Come on. LOOK AT MY SIGNATURE. Clearly I have a problem that needs a remedy that only server uptime can provide:
It's called AT LEAST GETTING TO LEVEL ONE.

Almost twelve hours of downtime on a Saturday, right after returning last night after a break. Someone call the doctor because this hurts! Although...like another poster pointed out, it does seem to have helped with donations quite a bit.
All kidding aside: good luck to the dev team on figuring out the latest server woes, and thank you for all the effort you're putting into this worthwhile MMO. It's worth every effort and every penny. No game has been made that is capable of replacing EnB.
Now I'm going to bow my head in sadness, pull on my stupid, itchy spandex, and trudge back to City of Heroes.

Hello Earth and Beyond! Early beta tester here (in the original EnB as well as the emulator). Just wondering if anyone is around from Stress Test One. I organized the big party in the Disco room at the end of the stress test, as well as the "user support" thread on the old forums for those trying to set up their own servers.
Anyone want to gossip and brag about the state of affairs here in the fourth stress test? I'm a big content nerd, so I'm particularly curious about storyline and character development stuff like missions, job terminals, and ship upgrades. I've been wanting to sink my fangs of space MMO dorkiness back into EnB for some time now. Is it likely that Stress Test Four will be around for a while?
Over the past year I've been playing City of Heroes, which I often suspect took some inspiration (especially regarding level advancement and character development) from EnB. CoH is great, and I'm a bit of a comic book reader, which probably makes it better. But the fact that there are no space ships, space MOBs, or asteroids to mine leaves it severely lacking.
Also the lack of Jenquai explorers in City of Heroes is disturbing.

Someone more knowledgeable should chime in with more specific (or more correct) details; but EA was tossing around ideas, maybe even had a team working on an online console-based sequel to EnB. I read about it a long time ago but I can't remember where.
It didn't happen.
