I have noticed as of late there are repeat questions popping up that have (usually) simple solutions, so i have decided to compile a bit of a mini guide with some troubleshooting at the bottom section to hopefully aid those who might be struggling to get into the game. I understand that for many veterans this whole post might seem a waste of time, but if it can help at least one person out, then i will be happy 😀

I have written the below with the assumption that majority of people know how to open properties on a file, and general navigation within file explorer/Windows.

I will also keep adding to this topic should there be something new crop up, or something that i have missed. Feel free to contribute too if there is something else not listed.

The jump point for this guide is that you have done the following:

1. Installed the game client
2. Installed the Net7 installer
3. Registered not only a forum account, but a game account via the Net7 portal

You’ve installed both the client and the patch, but what settings need changing/configuring for everything to work as expected?

Set compatibility for the LaunchNet7.exe as the following:

Set compatibility for the configuration tool (default location: C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Earth & Beyond\EBCONFIG) as the following:

Now launch the configuration tool to set desired screen resolution and modes:

Running the launcher for first time

First launch will download any update files, and might reload itself between updates depending on current patch level. When it has completed this process, you will want your launcher to look as follows:

• Make sure the client is pointing to the correct directory and file. If everything was installed to default location, it will match the above in the picture – If non-default location installed then locate the client.exe file

• Make sure all 4 option boxes are checked

• Make sure the local IP setting is your actual local IP

Woo I am in the game! But everything looks blurry and low resolution?

At the top of the screen, click the following:

Now change to desired options, or for majority of people the following settings are perfect:

 Note: you do not need to adjust gamma control unless absolutely necessary.

Troubleshooting

Issue: I load into the client but get INV-300 when attempting to log in

Possible solution/s:

1. You might have local cert checked on the launcher, uncheck it
2. There could be a certificate error on server side, which as a temporary solution can be gotten around by making an internet properties adjustment by unchecking the highlighted line below, but better for system security to simply wait for the back-end fix:

Issue: I am in the game but gating and transitioning between areas stalls out on galaxy map

Possible solution/s:

1. Check to see if all 4 boxes are checked on the launcher, specifically the prototype reorder.
2. Is you local network wireless? - Although this seems like a small thing, it can make a big difference in this game. If at all possible run E&B Emu on a wired connection.
3. Try the use of [/packetopt on] command. This is a 'shot in the dark' solution, some have had better success than others.
4. If a VPN user, have you tried with/without using it?

Issue: Server failed to respond to login attempt when clicking [Play] button

Possible solution/s:

Check your local IP address on the launchpad is your actual IP for your local machine

Issue: How do i move a client window around when set to windowed mode?

Possible solution/s:

Move your mouse cursor to the task bar where the client is running and let it aero-peek. Now right click the peek window and select move, like shown below.

You can also use [ALT+SPACE] to trigger this menu to pop top left of client window, like below:

Issue: I have multiple monitors but when i move a client window to the left of the main screen, i cannot interact with it.

Possible solution/s:

There is no real solution that i am aware of as this has to do with negative screen coordinates, in which a secondary monitor when configured to the left of the main one has this. For most people having the secondary monitor to the right of the main works better.

*If there is a solution that works perfectly for this, please let me know in replies!

after much cussing and  gnashing of teeth the install worked  and the game starts until the log in screen

i used the trusty password i had from last time  but alas  meghan says nope  no way jose and i get a

is it possible to get a GM to help reset ??

Once the GMs have a chance to review this and some people have been able to give it a try I would like for this post to replace the venerable "Linux(maybe mac?)/Wine install guide." as I spent a ridiculous (seriously, if my wife hears Megan's voice in the installer one more time she will divorce me) amount of time trying to incorporate everything I could find in that thread into one cohesive fully-automated script.  I looked briefly into supporting MacOS (Darwin) but it doesn't seem possible, especially on recent MacOS versions; Apple is working hard to kill off OpenGL and replace it with Metal and the WINE builds I could find have no 32-bit support which is a requirement.

I would also like to see the FAQ updated, specifically the "Game play and issues" section, to bifurcate the "How do I get in the game !!" topic into Windows and Linux versions where the latter is just a disclaimer about Linux not being officially supported and a link to this post.  This would make it much easier for my future Linux brethren to find this and hopefully spend a lot less time installing the game and a lot more time playing it!

I am on Windows 11 Pro, so I created a shortcut to launch the Character Creator with the -noclassrestrictions flag.  My target text is:

"E:\EnB\Character and Starship Creator\Character and Starship Creator.exe" -noclassrestrictions

It's running in Windows XP (Service Pack 2) compatibility mode, and as administrator.   And still, the three added jobs don't show up.

So I'm tearing hair out of my already balding head.   I'd appreciate any hints/advice/fixes!

(Does the Start in:   folder make a difference?)

Could someone walk me thru how to setup E & B for windows 11 in full screen. I searched the forums and found a couple of threads on how to do it for earlier versions of windows but alas my tech/window knowledge is lacking in converting those processes over to win 11. Thank the gawds that the automakers don't completely revamp a cars' layout ever couple of years.

I havent played for a while 

Today i have reinstated the game and patched it , i cant log in tho.

I am getting "unable to validate login credentials" , i have reset the net-7.org account password so it doesnt have special characters and still cant log in .

Any ideas what i can do to fix this ?

Here are my troubleshooting steps that I did all at once, or did it in combinations:

• Disabled Host Firewall: I've reviewed other threads and ensured that the host based firewall was permissive of each .exe... however; to be sure, I completely disabled it and had no improvement. 
• Fresh install
• Tried changing compatibility settings from XP SP 2 to XP SP 3. 
• Adjusted screen size
• Administrative privileges: Enabling the setting in all .exes to run as admin
• Closed out of other running apps
• 150 mbp/s down, 50 mbp/s up internet
• I've statically set my dns to be 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4
• Computer specs - RTX 5090, Ryzen 9950x3D, 64 gb ram, 4TB 9100 PRO nvme
• When reviewing pcaps, when the connections lagging, to where I either keep warping or the combat stalls for ~5 minutes, UDP packets are consistently going out. When the server catches back up, I do notice that there's a bunch of OOO packets or duplicate acks that appear soon after. 
• 
• Below, I was trying to warp through, and got caught in the gravity well, and tried to fly out. However, game lagged, and ~5 minutes later, game caught back up and it showed my toon died:

• I'm in discord, happy to run more tests and make further changes! 

To verify, they also tried other browsers, and I even tried it in a private window so I didn't have to log out, and got the same error.

Is there something wrong with this check?  Any assistance would be appreciated.

Since I am reluctant to create new windows accounts and use that workaround, or use any other sandbox environment, I decided to look at the locking mechanism in place and try to create a workaround/fix for that. 

I have created a Net7MultiClientUnlocker for this purpose and I have been getting great results with it. Sure, every now and then I still get this message, once. But that's about it. 

No virtualisation or anything fancy happening in my unlocker, just detecting the launch of a new E&B client and then attempting the remove the lock for the running client process. My tool does NOT alter the client itself in any way.

How to use?

Well, the Net7MultiClientUnlocker tool works best if no net7proxy processes are already running. So in case of closing all your clients and booting them up again, it helps to first shut any lingering net7proxy process down.

Just start the Net7MultiClientUnlocker tool as administrator, it needs administrator rights to remove the locks. Running without admin will quit the tool without showing a gui.

If started as administrator, a window will appear where messages will be logged.

Now just leave the Net7MultiClientUnlocker tool open and just use the Net7 launcher like you would normally do.

You will see messages stating that a new E&B client launch has been detected and hopefully followed by a message stating that the multi client lock has been disabled.

If the lock has been disabled, you should not be bothered by the nag screen saying the client is already running.

Like I said, every now and then there will be a nag screen that slips through (might find a solution for this in the near future but not promising anything) but all in all I have had great results using this method.

Last but not least, the download link, just unpack the zip file to a folder of your choice and run the Net7MultiClientUnlocker as administrator :

Recently while trying to ANALYZE an item which contains 6 components I got a critical success which would typically mean that all 6 components would be "recovered", allowing me to rebuild a player made one.

Unfortunately I only had 3 slots available in my cargo and the analyze does not account for the possibility of a crit like dismantle does (which checks your available cargo before allowing you to attempt a dismantle). As a result I lost 3 of the 6 components from a raid drop.

Ideally the analyze path should contain the same check that the dismantle path does such that it does not allow you to attempt an analyze if you don't have enough cargo space for all the components that would result from a crit.

Net 7 launcher, proxy and the game client are all allowed through the firewall. I tried turning on packet optimization in the launcher, but that did nothing as well. Proxy's status is "fully logged in". I also tried resetting updates in the launcher.

I'm connecting to the sunrise.net-7.org server.

I'd love to know if it's something on my end or if the servers are just on fire. If it's the former I could use some suggestions for fixing the issue.

UPDATE: tried doing a complete reinstall of client and the emulator. I almost thought it helped since I played for about an hour with only an occasional lag spike, but now it's back, so I don't think that worked.
