Oldbie / Newbie - Greetings

Recommended Posts

I pre-ordered this game and played the hell out of it till the bitter end way back, was in a guild run by some chick named Dalia, I can't remember the name and have scattered weird bits of the game that seem to be slowly coming back.

I looked for some game play footage on youtube out of nostalgia a couple weeks ago and realized you guys had done it. Impressive, I had heard the emulation rumors not to long after the shutdown by EA but lost hope. As soon as I logged in I got all teary eyed.

Looks like I've gotten in a little late, when exactly did this go alpha and people started at 0?

Seems like a lot of lvl150's out there and maybe a lot of private or internalized gameplay done in guilds or peeps with multiple boxes. I dunno just a guess, maybe just that there is only 300 or so peeps on at any given time.

Which leads me to my next questions, has that number been slowly expanding since you guys started up or has it hit a generalized wall since then?

I do remember whole other sectors that were added and certain aspects of the game that changed quite a bit back in the day. Am I to assume the emulator will be limited to the content that was in the original box? Or will those new sectors / mobs / crafting catalysts be added at some point? Maybe the old Pumpkin Chunker halloween give away?

Also in the current game running, I was wondering, is that tempest thing in the grav well that drops matrix devices etc.. working, with that weird black box device to active it that requires a lvl8 Sumter and a bunch of other stuff to build? I only remember because I made it the bane of my existence to get that sumter recipe.

Anyway I'm resurrecting my original toons Jackman TT and Chow JE, not sure how much time I will have to play these days being married and 40 but I will do my best if anyone needs a recruit... Jackman Intends to build components, shields, weapons and be a shield recharge and hull patch combat whore and Chow will eventually be the best miner and taxi in the galaxy, hands down.

There are new areas that weren't in the original game.  Ardus & der Todesengel are not open yet, but will likely be at the appropriate point in the storyline.    The 3 missing classes are in game, that weren't in the original (you need the Character & Starship creator to make them).  I can't think of the exact date that Live started, but it wasn't that long ago, around the end of last year, but before Christmas, since we did get the missions that gave the 3 skill points.

New sectors that weren't in the original game are Paramis in Smuggler's Run system.  Requires RD faction to enter, +2K.  Altair which is the home system for the Progen Privateer, it has 2 sectors (Altair III, Norstrand Vor, and Nostrand Vor Planet) and a planet.  Proxima Centauri is another system that wasn't in the original, it's the home system for Terran Scouts, It has 2 sectors (Adriel Prime & Margesi).  Castor is the system added for the Jenquai Seeker to call her home It's got 2 sectors currently open, (Ishuan & Menorb)  and a third which will open later (Nebiros).

61 Cygni has an additional sector, Moto.

In Sol, there are Mercury, Venus, Pluto & Charon, Neptune, & Ceres as new sectors.  Last I looked Ceres isn't open yet, the other ones are.

There are maps somewhere in the forums that mention future sectors.  I think they're in game resources.

Welcome Back to the game.

You were probably referring to Merchant Marines as your old guild.

Game went Live November 19th 2012.

Original content and New content coexist in the emulator.

Kudos to the devs who have brought this back to our loyal community.

Number of people playing has its ups and downs. Summer is coming soon :)

Welcome back Dizzy.  I had to respond, cause u said,  "As soon as I logged in I got all teary eyed."  I think that was the first unvolentary response from about 75% of us.

Yes the Developers have done a fabulous jobs so far, WOOT Woot.

Christmas time provided us with a mission (crazy huntin  :panic: ) for the snowball launcher.

The Mealstrom and Ardus are the sectors i miss the most, but current game play and friends help keep my mind off of it.

In closing, play when u can, there is enough ingame now to keep u busy. And at ur lvl, don't forget to duck.

Wow... Glad to hear about all the new content, thank you for the detailed response and glad to hear more is to come.

Merchant Marines sounds like the Guild, thanks for the reminder. November 2012 and there are that many 150's out there, I guess the excitement and the large level of understanding and info out there goes a long way VS figuring it out as you go along like in live startup.

A truly impressive task by the devs for sure, I'm trying to donate but can't figure out how, looks like I might need to wait till May. I shutter to the think of the complexity, here I can barely hack, Jquery & PHP, Ill be sure to login for the next holiday in hopes of getting something uselessly wonderful to fill up my vault :)

Donations are only opened once a month (or is it once the fund runs out).  Watch for it comes May 1st.

EMU Live gone life around Nov 9-10 2012.

There are a lot of OL150 because of a slip in the job rewards (too high), which has since been corrected a couple of weeks ago.   Patches are applied every week on Tuesday.  Even I who started a week after Emu Live, have not got OL150 yet in any of my toons, and have been kicking myself for not jobbing extensively before the patch :-)  To tell you the truth, the only jobs I ran are to satisfy Agrippa Trade Level requirements and JE Wormholes.

I hate running jobs!!!!

One more thing, since you live in LA:

Watch out for Megan hour (9-10p Pacific time).  Lots of visits to Megan login screen (CTM) during that time, so no combats.  I normally do ammo builds or jobbing, or play another game during that time.  No Analyze though, because of the risk of losing the item you want to analyze without analysis outcome (the terminal just eats the item).

Spread the words, because if the number of online users exceed the current limit of 600, Kyp (SDev Lead) may be forced to move the server (No, I have no insight into it, just hoping, cuz Megan hour impacts my playing experience every day (kids gone to bed etc....)).

Eeep. Thats Weird, I will try to be mindful, is it just work being done on the server or just simply the high traffic hour and why is it called Megan hour.

Because you crash to Megan.  The toon that asks you to log-in.

It is thought that it might be because that's Midnight on the East coast and a lot of companies may have chosen that time to transfer data to other/remote locations.

There are also other features here that weren't in the original game.  On the N7 Portal site, there's a mailing system, where you can mail an item to any other player, as well as account vault, which allows you to transfer items from any character on your account(s) to any other character on your account(s).  I think accounts have to be linked to transfer to characters on different accounts.  Instructions for using the mailing system can be found on the forums, but I'm not having luck finding it right now.

If you want a Scout, Seeker, or Privateer, instructions for making one can be found here.

Actually, we in the West coast have seen another opportunity to have a date with Megan around 11:00-11:30PM Pacific time.  Lots of gate crashes and/or slow response for us West Coasters, but to a lesser extent than the real Megan hour.  I don't have anything solid, but I think it must be the time Las Vegas casinos decide to transfer their money,,,, ugh, doing their backups.  :)

Yeah, that in site mail feature is the shit. Someone in game gave me the lowdown. 3rd Party trades would have sucked.

I will keep an eye for west coaster Megan hours as well, I think I came across one not to long ago and things got pretty weird.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hello everybody my name is Joseph I always wanted to play EnB but never had the chance when it came out I didn't have a system capable of running it well and I didn't have the money to spare. And when I did get a system and money to do it EA falcon punched the game and I missed it by a few months. And then a few hours ago I did a check on the wikipedia article for EnB and saw a annotation for the emulator and here I am. :D

Yeh westies get a slightly later Megan hour, MST and CST get a bit of it also, (I'm in MST and it starts about 9:30ish and goes to 11:30ish). Almost all the big retailers have a data pull a hour or so after closing hrs. or shift change. You can imagine the data drain on the net as a whole when retail hrs hit 11 pm on west coast from such companies as Walmart or Target etc.

Bentonville, AK.  Walmart's HQ.mega computer calls out to their computers world wide and says feed us the little bits of data that we ripped from our victims (sorry "customers") and employees (oops sorry "associates") :) Since data flow is a huge pipe, and our little bits of data if flowing through that pipe, big retailers flow tends to crowd ours out. That's even worse when ISP's "prioritize" flow, games get shunted when their big customer clients demands need meeting. Look how 1to1 does business and you can see what is going on.

I do notice that there are fewer crashes/hangs during Megan hour lately (since a month ago).  It appears that 1on1's customers have spread out their backup activities earlier and later.  I see lags start around 8PM PDT (i.e. one hour earlier) and then there is a regional lag around 11PM PDT.  I am not sure if this is a seasonal change due to Daylight Savings Time, or something that the server's ISP (1on1) do.

Don't get me wrong, that is a real welcome change for me, as at least I can still do combat and/or run jobs during Megan hour, compared to previously (chat and building ammos only).  I also believe that Zach's extending timeout to 50s also have something to do with it.
