Zackman [LDEV]
Morning ! I wanna bring up a quickie, based on a bug report: 1. IIRC there was no negative signature in live 2. If this is true, the discussion about negative signature effects is obsolete If you have SIG 0.0, a mob will still see if you enter his scan range since the math is "mySig + MobScanRange = visibilityRange" So if a mob has 5K scan and i have 0.0 SIG, the mob will see me from 5K. Discuss.... PS.: If (1) is true, the fix is easy: We just would need to have a SIG 0.0 cap.

Stanig[IS]
Concur, negative sig did not exist. You got to zero. The idea for it to be Scan+Sig makes sense too.

kjeron
Negative signature should be displayed to see what is stacking and working correctly and what is not, but treated the same as 0.0k by mobs.
Rossdie [BT]
Yes there was negative signature in live, it was added later in the game. The reason for it was to reduce the how far a mob could see you. For example, if a mob has a 5k scan range and you have a -0.8k sig the mob should not see you until you get within 4.2k of it. This is the reason that negative sig was implemented in live.

Zackman [LDEV]
Ok...sound logical tho, Will/Rossdie. Well, than it is currently working as it was on live - the "Rossdie" Version tho, Will: Your ships negative sig-value is another reduction of the Mob's visibility range to you. drjeff
Thanks for this topic, I was wondering why my neg sig didnt seem to be working on my JE.
Mynd [BT]
Ok..found an old thread with some guys discussing this topic. There was a possibility to get a negative signature back in live, but from what I gather from this post....it was pretty much like having 0.0 sig since they didn't seem to notice/get a bonus to the negative modifier. Phorlaug[IS]
Yea, For the Jenquai being able to get our Beam range up and our Signature below the NPC's scan range is key. We have to be able to get close enough to fire without getting aggro. Reducing Signature below 0.00 would accomplish this. Otherwise some of the Jenquai's Combat skills and tacktics will be useless or Very difficult to use. (Fold space, Summons, Combat cloak)
Terrell [BT]
I have to agree with the OP. I don't recall ever getting my signature below 0.0K. It's also true that different mobs have different agressiveness settings, or at least should have, and may not attack the moment they see you. If we're going to allow negative signatures, it should probably require an activatable device (JT Only) to do so. Such a device could say reduce whatever your visiblity is by 1.0 or so, and to get a negative sig you'd have to already have a sig of 0.9 or lower before the device is activated on you, otherwise it just gives the stated signature reduction, you just don't get negative signature.
