eerkkk!

you have probably the best example of stretched pixels I've seen so far... Even the 1920x1080 is horribly stretched! I don't think we'd ever be able to extend the aspect ratio enough to fit the 5760 but if it's possible to adjust the aspect ratio we should at least be able to get 16:10 and hopefully 16:9, although why anyone would buy a 16:9 monitor is beyond me ...
I dont just play EnB, i do play other games as well. The 16:9 ratio has pretty much became standard these days.

:( Alas. I gather it's all to do with being cheaper to manufacture width rather than depth due to the screen printing process.

It's a horrible resolution to try to do any development on. Vertical depth is best. I just hope Dell (or whoever) will still be making 16:10 monitors when mine dies.

@Tienbau, et al.: If you buy online, 16:10 monitors can still be found pretty easily.
For me personally though I'm not inclined to jump on the 16:10 bandwagon just yet (if at all), so any sort of FOV changes that can be made to E&B would be preferable, especially as EyeFinity and other technologies start getting cheaper to buy into.

I don't see that, I see jagged edges.

Like such as in EVE, I can use either my Nvidia CP or game settings and get 16x with nice clean lines.
I took another couple of screenshots. Here's a side by side comparison.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17771862/enbaa2.png

On the left is without AA, on the right is with. The AA on the right is 32x. Sure, you can see a bit of jaggies, but it's greatly improved. No matter what, the pixels stay the same size, so AA is not going to be perfect, no matter how high you drive it.

My suspicion is that people who think AA doesn't work on EnB at all either have some weird gpu/driver setup, they expect AA to result in perfect elimination of jaggies in all cases, expect the monitor to magically increase its DPI, or most likely simply haven't done a side by side comparison and are freaking out over edge cases, no pun intended.

This is what I want, a triple ostendo setup.
http://technabob.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/ostendo_curved_display_eyefinity.jpg
An ostendo is basically a curved monitor equivilent to setting 3 4:3 monitors side by side. And this one's 3 of them. *drool* I also want an Optimus Maximus keyboard to go along with it. *double drool*

I'm liking this Ostendo CRVD display... http://www.crvd.com/why.php
Mmmm...

2880 x 900 resolution. 32:10 Aspect Ration. $6,500.

It appears to be an inactive project though as I can find nowhere on their site where to buy it, and it articles from 2009 and 2010 apparently you were able to buy it from Ostendo's website then. Edited by Zathman

Ooooo. Me likey. It would be nicer if it were a bit higher-res though, and if it didn't cost $6500. o.O

How about the keyboard I mentioned?
http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/optimus/maximus/
The keys are full color light up displays that can be reconfigured on the fly. So one could, in theory, set up one's number keys to show the icons of the game's power/equipment tray. How cool is that? And the keyboard only costs $2100!

900 vertical pixels? I guess that would be good for movies, but I think I like Mouse's monitor better.

Where's this going?

Over the past 7-8 years we've seen monitors go from 1600x1200, to 1920x1200 (an improvement) and now 1920x1080 or worse (whatever)x900 ...

I predict in another 5 years time the trendsetters are going to be demanding monitors with 20000 by 100 pixels... 'Hey bro!! check out how wide screen my new wide screen monitor is!' ... 'yeah ... sooo wide ... AND you can still just about see stuff on it'. However another 10 years and we'll probably be plugging the monitor directly into our brains so it'll be a moot point. 10 years after that you probably won't need to plug anything in, the images will come unbidden ... arrghhhhhh!!

Mouse you should get a RATT mouse to go with that ... they look really neat. Or a direct mind control one, although you do look a bit silly using it (requires facial twiches).
We did get a side by side example in a previous post, where showing the overall degradation with the xp bar, though I can see it w/o seeing the xp bar, even in your pics. If my card would do it, I think I'd pass on it, it's a bit sloppy. It's not a weird card, it's an X series, I switched from ATI to this because it works better (with shaders) with the game engine I work with. In most cases where a game or render app has AA, even 2x does a good job with it while retaining crisp graphics. If it doesn't bother you, then your set, but I'm cursed with noticing stuff like that hehe bothers the hell out of me. It's like, you program, what if your app kept spewing out "Hello wUrld!" every ten minutes, you would want to snip the noob code out of it, right? Well for someone that lives in graphic apps, noob graphics suck too ;) Ah well, no AA isn't so bad, would just be nice if this supported it natively, or did well externally. But thanks for showing examples.

I've seen that keyboard before, and I would love to have one. Next time I happen to have $2100 and nothing to spend it on (i.e. without a girlfriend), I'll consider it, lol.

Well, there's people posting saying they got Radeon to do AA. So I'm guessing it's Case A: an odd gpu/driver setup... Perhaps you could try different drivers, or talk to people who have Radeons to see which drivers and cards they're using.
It's all ATI on this thread. I have the latest drivers but I haven’t tried to force run AA for I think two revisions, maybe three. I can't switch drivers, or prefer not to, I run common factory settings for FX Composer which was the whole point I dumped my ATI card and got rid of rendermonkey. But I haven't forced AA on EnB in a while, I'll make some time this weekend to run a test of it, though I'm not expecting any different results compared to last time.

 • 3 weeks later...
I've got an AMD Radeon 7970 (à la the XFX HD 7970 Black Edition Double Dissipation) on backorder to complete my new EyeFinity-supporting computer build. Using 3 Dell U2412M (16:10 supporting) monitors.

Of all the things I want to play on this new setup it is still Earth & Beyond Online... lol. I think that's a waste of graphical potential right there ;-) ... for now at least ...

Well for sure within a couple weeks (hopefully less) when I turn the thing on I can hammer out all the answers that have been sought after in this thread (if I don't forget about this thread!). Edited by Zathman

Sorry, for necroing this thread but I just wanna confirm that I hoping for a widescreen patch for EnB-emu is not gonna happen. Because that is really the only knitpick I have with the great work so far. That and the buggy WH animation but that's it.
Or do we have some new development on this (FOV/Aspect-Ratio) front?
